my main curiousity is that would something like the file/pixel avvy increases even be possible.

if so, i think it'd be cool for the chance to have it, whether a fan art contest, fanfic contest, a post count milestone, moderators, etc. even for drak's idea of a skin contest, i think this would be a cool prize

I'm not sure a size increase over 100x100 or over the 80kb limit would be put forward unless Mirko decides to bump everyone up.

But I don't see any harm in the people getting upgraded from the smaller sizes as a prize. It's a cool idea. Again, Excelsior is the Carmine Falcone of the artist underworld, so it'd be his call.
