If I saw a section called "Fine Arts," I would not think it was a collection of threads about all kinds of books and music. For example, there is a thread about the new Guns 'n' Roses CD. Would that go in "Fine Arts"?

obviously a much better forum name would be in the works i would hope

The more sub-forums we have, the less we have to talk about in the Community.

cancel the celeb forum and bring that back to community, and merge the hype awards into community too.
a lot of ppl will disagree with me, but i'd say bring politics into the community too, with the elections over i dont know how much traffic it carries anymore

The only way a book forum would even be considered would be if there were a plethora of book threads flooding the Community forum.

But because of the complete lack of book threads, there's no demand for an entire forum for them.

i would've made TONS of book threads by now in the community but didn't because i thought they'd get lost in the fray. i have like 4 or 5 off the top of my head i'd like to make now.

If they warrant threads, make them.

The only way a book forum will ever be considered is if there's a legitimate, visible need for it.

.....But don't take this as me encouraging you to spam up the board with threads for every Agatha Christie novel. I'm just saying.

i have no intentions of spamming.

and lemme reiterate i do NOT WANT simply a book forum. I'd prefer a forum focusing on Books, Music, and other fine arts and literary forms.

there's a couple of books/book series i'd like to open discussion threads for.
also a lot of various music threads, be it artists, albums, etc.

that's just a few examples.

Community is still incredibly popular, despite all of the subforums.

I think the big problem is the fear that continually subdividing the forums into subforums will lead to sub forums with a couple of active threads at most in them.

I've posted on some really humoungous forums like Angst (the NME Music Forum) and the Colboard.

But this is a completely different set up.

My suggestion if members want to create a new forum is to provide a choice:

a) Book and Lit Forum

b) Music and Band Forum

The celeb and politics forums garner pretty significant traffic... much more than I'm sure a book/music forum would get. They are just more controversial, therefore more popular, subjects.

the other ones, the appreciation threads, the hottest women, etc, they can survive on their own in the main community area. all the music related ones or ones related to movie adaptations of books and stuff could fall in the Books and Music Forum.

When a book forum was last suggested, Mirko shot it down, then Bella pitched a music forum when it was suggested recently here, Ive spoken to Mirko about it and he will give a decision in the new year.

The appreciation/hottest woman threads would take up the entire first page if they were to be placed back in the community. I'd rather they stay in their own forum... I surf at work sometimes and its nice to be a neutral area away from all the celebrity obsession threads in case the wrong person looks over your shoulder.

Indeed, I've been reading some great books lately and wouldn't mind having an outlet for such topics. Plus music is a given considering the scope of not just listening to music but also playing, live gigs and such.

Seems rather pointless. All it'll be is threads about how EMO this band is, or how much Rap sucks. We live to complain, and complaining about music is far worse than complaining about movies.

Would the new area have sub sections? By genre? You guys should appoint new mods to watch over it and make sure there aren't any music wars. Sensi is really knowledgable of music. She should become a mod there.

Do we really need 4 freaking stickies in here??? Just because a mod makes a game thread IMO doesn't mean they automatically should be able to sticky it. What is the difference between a mod hosted game and a user hosted game?
