The Dark Knight Rises Could BB3 beat TDk if...

yes.....the 3rd movie could be better than Tdk, it will most likely not be as big a box office hit...but as a movie it could trump Tdk in the hearts of the fanbase.

As batman fans we have witnessed wayne go from the tragedy of his childhood into becoming batman, we have watched him persevere through all the adversity as his city came under siege by a madman....as a batfan would I love a movie where my hero overcomes persecution and redeems himself with the city hes trying to protect.......hell yes...this is the batman movie franchise, im here to see the adventures of batman and as long as the storytelling is as good as its been then im going along for the ride.

Agreed. As I said earlier I'm thinking (hoping) the third film's main theme is redemption. I mean like I said Batman I'm guessing is in a very dark place in his life, Rachel is dead, he's being hunted by the police, the public hates him and I'm guessing he feels some guilt over killing Harvey (assuming he's dead of course). I would really like to see the conflict between Bruce Wayne and Batman (Bruce wanting to stop but Batman knowing this is what he's destined to do) and at the end of the movie Bruce finally excepts his role as Batman. Again assuming redemption is the main theme of the third film, it would make more sense for them to focous mainly on Batman and not so much on the villians.

What's interesting is how the Black Mask/Roman Sionis and that duality can act as a sort of parable on Bruce/Batman. The danger of slipping into a deranged psychosis almost due to their drive and commitment for change.

Most of Batman's villains are in fact, twisted & mirrored reflections of his own personality. It's what makes them so compelling.

The series, in terms of money making couldn't even make it on the one-hundreds list (at least with Batman Begins). Partly because of the stench they couldn't get away from left by B&R. But it did wonderful and then The Dark Knight come along. TDK could've definatly made the top 100's list because of Batman Begins. But then Heath Ledger died, and, sad as that was, it did help the money-making aspect and made it 2nd of all time! The 3rd film will not have the same things going for it money-making wise as TDK did. But because of Ledger's death, this film was opened up to a lot of people who prior to didn't know much about it, or BB. Those are the people we can expect to see going to BM3. Because of TDK's success BM3 will do better, than if Ledger had not died (no disrespect to him).

I think as long as we keep telling ourselves that TDK can't be topped, we're not going to allow it to be topped.

I think Nolan needs to take a page from Peter Jackson's book... Sure, BB was a great origins story and TDK was an epic sequel and midway-point... But look at the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

The Fellowship of the Ring got was outstanding, and was the foundation story for the next two films. The Two Towers was a freakishly awesome sequel that was a massive-scale, incredible continuation of the prequel and cliff-hanger left open for the sequel. I'm sure people were wondering whether Return of the King could be as good, and it- by far- was the best. ROTK was an absolutely incredible movie.

What's saying Batman 3 won't be the next Return of the King?

yeh rotk is my favorite, the only one id ever sit through again in its entirety

That's a very good point, Batman 3 could be the best one yet.

Quality-wise, anything is possible.

Box-office-wise, I honestly doubt any movie will top TDK for some time.

I don't really care how it does box office wise...as long as we, the fans like it, I don't see the big deal. I mean, yeah it probably won't beat The Dark Knight in box office earnings. But what if it does? You can never rule that out. I mean hell we're talking about a movie that's not even in the pre production stages yet, anything can happen.

I suspect most of it has to do with people reminding themselves that batman is still (by far) the most interesting character in this universe, not the other guy who was so prolific in TDK. So if Batman's in the third movie, it can still be better than TDK. He's all that matters.

If we're talking about money, no.
If we're talking about quality, there's a possibility.
