I have to admit, even as someone who didn't like the twist and think they should've done a proper Mandarin in some form for IM3, I'm not sure if I really see the point in the constant handwringing three years after the movie came out since Marvel has set-up the possibility to revisit the character down the line in some form.

Bane is way better than Killian.

Bane is one of the best comic book movie villains ever. And the proof is in that everyone knows who Bane is now. You say his name and people remember, usually fondly. You say Killian, Mandarin, Ultron, Malekith, Zemo, Apocalypse, Francis, Stane, Pierce, etc.

Yeah. Bane is one of the best in the genre. It is just unfortunate he came right after the very best in the Joker and could never live up to that comparison.

IM3 easily. I left TDKR fairly satisfied. I did enjoy IM3, but left the theater with many questions asking why this? and why did they do that?
IM is my favorite character but I still think TDKR is head & shoulders above IM3. Every time I think of Killian, all I see is him walking around with his chest poking out, and two funky dragon tattoos on his chest yelling "I am the Mandarin". Bane had many great lines and scenes in TDKR...

So people knowing about something is proof of being among the best now? I guess Twilight is one of the best movie franchises then. :woot:

This is how I see it:

TDKR inspired disappointment.
IM3 inspired backlash.

Two different situations.

I do think some people let their expectations get too high and then are too harsh when those expectations aren't met. Bane being as good as Joker (or TDKR being as good as TDK for that matter) was never a likely outcome.

He is still a great villain (and TDKR is a great film) regardless. There aren't many CBM villains I'd put up there with Bane. Ledger's Joker, Nicholson's Joker, Pfeiffer's Catwoman, Stamp's Zod, Eckhart's Two-Face, Magneto, Dr. Octopus, Loki, and that's about it.

Oh I guarantee you, Batsy, that A Necessary Evil loves Bane. And I'm not talking about the obvious hint with his user name :oldrazz: We're good buddies outside of the Hype.

Yeah, that was no dig at Bane. I used to cosplay as Bane, shaved head and funny accent at all. I enjoyed both Killian and Bane, quite a bit, so i'd say they are equal [for me]

And yes, who woulda thunkit that Joker has friends outside of Bob the goon. :o Jk, he's a great guy and one of my better friends, and a great poster to boot. :yay:

Bob got shot because he didn't tell me Batman had one of those......things!

IM3, because it's a much worse film in general.

Also, it was far less faithful to its source than its opponent despite coming from a company that preached "believing in the source material".

The backlash for IM3 was immediate, mostly due to the Mandarin twist.

With TDKR, I think a lot of people gave it praise on the first viewing, and after the hype wore off, the flaws became more noticeable.

Like, "how the hell did Bruce get back to Gotham? Why does Bane have that voice and always sound like he is breathing right into the camera, even when he's several feet away? Why did Batman take the time to draw a giant bat on fire on the bridge?"

I could list some more. The movies are nothing alike, but I think IM3 had a bad plot twist and was just relatively boring. TDKR made some controversial decisions as well, but some of the issues weren't as obvious upon the initial viewing, or at least I think so.

Considering TDKR has better reviews, I'll say IM3 had worse backlash.

I think it's a question of anger at the decisions made (Iron Man 3) verses disappointment in execution (TDKR).

Personally hated IM3 on every level but TDKR whilst I enjoyed it and got a very 'warm glow' from it's ending (equal to BB &TDK in Gordon's speeches), I'd already had the film ruined for me in the lead up to release when the stills of Miranda Tate had been released to 'reveal' who she really was and then during the film, as I say, the execution of the final face off was badly handled IMO.

Yeah, I think most of the faults in TDKR were execution, although there is also anger towards the decisions in the film as well. Such as Talia and Robin, or how Batman/Bruce's fate was handled. I'm iffy on the ending, too. Sometimes I feel like Bruce should have died, then I think he should have survived, and then I hear fans argue over whether or not he actually did survive.

I never heard of TDKR backlash, but I do distinctly remember people being pissed about IM3 twist.

Probably Iron Man 3. The thing that bothered me the most about IM3 was the inclusion of that kid, because that kid is one of the worst child actors I've ever seen. He absolutely butchered Jurassic World too. I think more were upset about the Mandarin fake out, but for me it was always that damn kid.

While TDKR wasn't perfect, I certainly didn't hate it or feel let down by it. I knew nothing would ever top TDK.
