Days of Future Past 'Days Of Future Past' BOX-OFFICE worldwide prediction - Part 1

Movies like "Snow White and the Huntsman" and Burton's Alice in Wonderland, and even TV shows like Once Upon a Time, have been extremely popular, so it's not a shock to me that a movie like this gets made.

From the reviews I've read, it seems like Maleficent is more style over substance. To me Disney has done far worse than this. But it seems like the last big hit for the studio, live action anyway, was Pirates of the Caribbean.

I think Salt was a hit. I loved that film :word:

Oh yeah I guess there was that one, Wanted was the last one I could think of. The Tourist bombed didnt it? She doesnt seem to make many these days.

Alice in Wonderland did a billion.

Box Office Guru:

The super hero hit X-Men: Days of Future Past opened big last week and has generated solid buzz with fanboys. Tentpoles this deep into a franchise series always drop hard but good word-of-mouth and the lack of a direct action competitor will soften the blow a bit. A 55% fall would lead to a weekend of about $40M and a cume to date of $169M.

I'm seeing it again in 30 minutes.

There's a Maleficent screening going on here too, going by the Disney Voluntears table doing check-ins in the lobby.

If it can get 40 million domesticly this weekend it will have overtaken the domestic runs of
both the wolverine and FC and unadjusted domestic run of X-Men.

It will also be intresting to see what it does overseas this weekend to see what that brings us worldwide.

We'll be over $450m WW after this weekend, that much is certain. How much over is the question.

Yeah and who was the one that said that Thor's role was "slightly more developed than Colossus"?

I know what I said, if you want to troll the boards, because me giving DOFP a 9/10 isn't good enough.

Not me, nor anyone currently engaged in this discussion. If you want to run around making absurd and overblown claims, be my guest. But don't think that rating a movie a 9/10 (or even a 10 out of 10 for that matter) secures you from people calling you out on them every once in a while.

I said compared other films in the genre. I said this exact same thing last year about Star Trek, compared to Star Wars.

But again what's the point  ?

The majority of others films in the genre aren't like Avengers , Spidey( Raimi) or Dark Knight. Beside, 300 Million Domestic is a hard to do in box office today ( CA, Thor,XDOFP say hi).

So, X men franchise was still a MAJOR comicbook franchise in 2000 .
But after, Wolverine origin, no ....

Domestic: $124,500,629 35.9% + Foreign: $221,917,557 64.1% = Worldwide: $346,418,186

700m sure, but 800 will depend on domestic final, and right now it doesnt look that it will be high enough to reach that goal

Hopefully this generates enough goodwill for Apocalypse to break out. Although it will have to be ambitious on its own terms to do that.

Well I know someone who iss seeing Maleficent in New York Right. He is one of 3 people in the theater to see it. OUCH.

Box office Mojo Is projecting 55 Million For Maleficent and 39 Million for DOFP
this weekend. I just hope they aren't overestimating DOFP for the weekend like last weekend.

It will be all the little kiddies tomorrow with their parent(s), even though I am hearing that there are parts that might be too much for some of the kids. But people bought their kids to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and the Skin I Live In (both had numerous very explicit scenes that they all sat through), so after you see that nothing surprises me about some parents.

I think Box Office Mojo's X-Men projections are too generous but they've been more right than I so who knows?

Yep. No doubt the crowds will pick up. I have no idea how Thursday showings do outside of the comic movies, i don't pay attention.

I saw a Thursday showing of Grown Up's 2 and it was an empty theater for me...and that ended up doing $41,508,572 opening weekend. So i don't know how much can be took from early showings and how well they do.

I feel like I have to defend myself for seeing Grown Up's 2 early. Two of my favorite actresses Alyson Michalka and Halston Sage had small roles in the film. Only reason i saw it.

You are not wrong. I still crack up about the open letter they wrote to Paramount about how MI-4 was going to fail if it opened the holiday season 2011 and it needed to be moved to its usual summertime slot if they wanted to be successful. They could not have been more wrong. And these are so-called professionals.

Deadline says it's currently tracking high 30Ms and boxoffice.com predicts 37.5M. Can't be that far off I guess xD

Haa! That is better than the lame "my friends dragged me to it" excuse. I have never gone to any movie, concert or theatre production I in no way wanted to attend. Nor would I expect that of anyone else. Unless it is a family or close friend performing. Otherwise, I say, have a good time and tell me about it when you get back, and maybe we can do something later. Who wants to be miserable, and on top of it have paid to be miserable?

Maleficent is a kids and housewife movie so I wouldn't expect huge Thursday night grosses.

I'm in an early screening for maleficent right now ( promise to niece) and its 1/3 full. I am going to see how full the next room is that is playing dofp on a food run.
