The Amazing Spider-Man Dennis Leary in negotiations for George Stacy

Oh I don't deny that they got him to look spot on as Sandman. They did. But just hearing his name and knowing what he looked like from Sideways & Wings and such, Eddie Brock was what I originally thought he'd be playing and I liked that idea...til the news came that it wouldn't be happening. I mean think about it, he's blonde, he's pretty big(and could only get bigger if he worked out to get into proper character form), he's older enough significantly that Tobey was being portrayed as Parker, and he's a real decent actor to boot. He was just screaming classic Eddie Brock to me.

Keep in mind that Spider-Man 3's Eddie Brock is based off of the Ultimate version, which looks a lot like Topher.

Yeah but Ultimate Eddie Brock/Venom.....sucks. Raimi did everything he could to be as old school 616 with all the rest of his movies as he could. So that decision made no sense. Original 1980's "Macfarlane" Eddie Brock>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>the Ultimate version.

Regardless if you like one iteration of a character, or the casting of said character or not, Raimi stayed true to, and even improved on Venom.

I really didn't see any improvments at all. But we are getting off topic here.

He didn't keep the "Venom" look however. The Ultimate version of Venom is even more monstrous than the regular version, chaotic in its appearance.

Example from 616 : You exposed my fake story, I HATE YOU.
Movie-Example : Exposed my fake story/photoshop, stole my "girlfriend" got me fired.

Honestly, on a purely character standpoint, 616 Brock sucks. Hard. In fact, USM Brock runs circles around 616 Brock in the character aspect. The cartoons were what ended up making Brock a competent villain. In the comics, he was literally a no-name guy who we never saw until he was already Venom, and his sole reason for hating Spidey was because Spidey caught the real sin-eater and ruined one of Brock's articles where he did an expose on the Sin-Eater and the guy who told Brock he was the Sin-Eater turned out to be a liar.

....Yeah, he was incredibly lame. So as far as character development goes, USM Eddie is actually loads better. 616 Brock was pretty laughably bad to be honest. However, I prefer the way the 90's TAS and SSM handled Brock as opposed to USM brock.

Improved on Venom? He did not show how Venom could evade Peter's Spider-Sense. He did not show that Venom was stronger than Spider-Man (based on Brock's anger feeding the symbiote). He did not allow for any mind games based on Brock knowing Peter's secret (other than the here we go again... kidnapping of MJ :whatever:).

He did not even have a true one on one fight between Venom and Spider-Man, as he teamed up Venom with Sandman.

And as far as Brock goes, there was little to no development of Brock's character, whether you base it on 616 or ultimate. THAT was one place I would of loved to see a stronger interupration of the character (Brock) and his motivatons. But we got "cut and dried" (expose fake pic and junior high use his girl to make your girl jealous).

*weak.. pitiful actually*

In the comic, he didn't know his story was false. He really believed that guy who turned out to be a liar. 616 Brock was still a decent joe-nobody reporter who probably should have been more careful in vetting his story. Movie Brock is just an opportunistic jerk from the word go.

Big difference. And as for USM's Brock, I hate, hate, hate that they made him more connected to Peter's past. One of the things I really liked about the 616 version is that Brock/Venom comes out of nowhere from Spidey's pov. It adds depth to Spidey's world/story that there are fairly casual superheroing things he does that can take months or years of germinating before they come back to bite him. And he all the while is completely oblivious to it all.

I loved in STAS how black suited Spider-Man went out to ruin Brock's career. Even going into his apartment to find the roll of film.

That still doesn't hold very much ground for him hating spider-man. Look, I am a fan of venom, but all I say is he's a weak character with lame motivations that got improved on. Let's just agree to disagree, kay?

That's why movie Brock was better. He was more believable. Comic book Brock printed a wrong news story, and he blamed Spider-Man for it when it was exposed as false because Spider-Man caught the real Sin Eater.

How stupid was this? Brock and Spidey never met. Spidey was not an obstacle to Brock for writing a proper story in the first place. It's Brock's fault for being suckered. All Spidey did was catch a serial killer.

In the movie, Peter exposed Brock's deception, humiliated him, got him fired, ruined his reputation, and took the girl Brock had a romantic infatuation with out on a date.

I could believe movie Venom's hatred of Spidey a lot more than the comic book version. Even Raimi said he found the character piss weak:

I had never read Venom in the comic books, since they came after my time. Because of that, I didn't have a natural inclination toward him. And when I read those comics, at [producer] Avi Arad's urging, I didn't understand where Venom's humanity was. I know that kids think he looks cool, and they think he's a good villain for Spider-Man. I actually didn't. What was it about Peter's own makeup that this villain represented some weaker or darker side to? Just looking like a dark version of him is not enough for me. The more I read [Venom stories], the less interested I became.

Thank you!  Seriously venom is as deep as the snot that came out of my nose.

But you are forgetting how stupid movie Brock was for believing that no one would notice that he ripped off an image from Parker. How did he think he could get away with that? He steals a photo from the guy who he is competing with for the photography job, and submits it to the newspaper who have already ran said photo on the cover of one of their newspapers.

The point wasn't what Brock did, the point was Venom's motivation.

Well, my input is that in both incarnations Brocks motivation is weak.

as much as I like Venom...He shouldnt be in this series...for the obvious fact that hes a weak character.
Hes cool and cool looking...but we need some amazing villains

Venom is a weak character...Eddie Brock is not. Read Dark Origins (all 5 parts) Eddie Brock is an AMAZING character. Its a really great mini-series as it stands, too.

So...Venom and SM3 has a lot to do with Dennis Leary playing George Stacy :whatever:

So, it's official!

Well.. we already knew it was official. It's not like its suddenly more official then it was before. LOL
