The Dark Knight Did anyone feel sorry for the Joker at all??

I think that Heath had his own backstory in mind when he came up with HIS Joker.

I believe that he imagined that the Joker was an extremely abused kid. That, in a way, those "made up" stories had more truth to them than HE (the Joker) would actually want anyone to know.

The Joker was so abused as a kid that he lost it. He became this psycho killer whos past had EVERYTHING to do with who he was. His mother and father completely destroyed any chance for him to be "normal". The Joker wanted ALL of Gotham to feel his pain. To feel and go through what he did.

The whole story thing that he did was his way of letting out what he felt he needed letting out (if that makes any sense). While not entirely true, there was MAJOR abuse and he lost his mind because of it. No one ever cared for him so why should he care for anyone.

This is what I think Heath was going for. When he had the knife to Rachel and was telling her about his wife, while maybe a complete lie, he was remembering something very hurtful (as the Joker-not Heath) and was actually being honest (as in he was very hurt by someone in his past).

Or he's just full of it and there's no reason to the madness. I'd like to ignore any nature issues with the Joker....I prefer nurture. And I can't even think about Joker as a kid...too weird.

He was a evil ****, my favorite part of the movie, I never thought Heath would dissapoint either...

But yeah 2 scenes kind of made me feel for him:
1- The mob meeting, when they called him a freak, but he threw it back when he knew he had their attention...
2- Interregation with Batman when he was saying, "Im not some monster" you kind of get a normal glimpse of him... until he says "Im just ahead of the curve" LMFAO!

People always say Joker was funny in the movie too. Only at the beginning. When we delve into the mind of this guy, I just stopped all snickers etc. Not funny, and not sympathetic.

I don't want people to think that I felt sorry for the fact that he wasn't able to complete his plans. Because in the broad scope of things, the Joker actually did win. The cover up of Dent's murders covers that up.

I'm just saying that at certain points in the film, Joker seemed vulnerable...if only for a second. And I think the biggest was when the mob was making fun of him by calling him crazy. The look at my original post for the other two moments I felt for him.

Well considering who you ask, Batman didnt' break his one rule...at least not intentionally....again, considering who you ask.

Meh, as far as I'm concerned? Batman breaks his one rule. I see the arguments to the contrary, but I really don't find them compelling.

However, he also becomes far more heroic by choosing to take the blame of all those deaths--thereby becoming more Batman, more "good," as a result of the Joker's actions.

So you have the very cyclic batman/joker thing going on there... (handled far more tastefully than "LULZ! I SHOT YOUR PARENTS!!11" in my opinion.)

i never felt sorry for Joker, but after Rachel went BOOM, and you see Joker sticking his head out of the car, i hated him, i really did, for being such a scumbag.
also, whenever i saw joker on screen, i never thought of heath, i just saw the joker, which is great. heath did an excellent job (but you all already knew that)

my thoughts exactly, then again, I watch WAY too many serial killer specials,....once I found myself feeling sorry for Jeoffrey Dahmer, but then I was like,...."wait,...this ****er ATE PEOPLE" haha X)

I felt for him because I believe that his philosophy and outlook on life might be right, at their core. I do agree with a lot of the things he says, especially the stuff about no one caring for a car full of troops exploding because it's "all part of the plan".

Humanity constantly imposes a hierarchy in society and our value system is based upon that hierarchy, meaning that mayors and governors and presidents and CEOs, who may very well be fortunate sons no better than you or I, have greater "value" than blue-collar workers and soldiers and everyday people. Chaos and anarchy are beautiful ways of protesting this enforced segregation and slavery.

Not that killing innocent people is the answer, or anything...

In my mind, the Joker had a normal upbringing and is of such a high-level intelligence that he feels no moral obligation and would be bored doing anything other than masterminding criminal activities that show off his life philosophy. He got those scars in an accident, or from a mob or something. And he's not crazy.

EXACTLY, infact I basicly said those same words today to my sister.

he has "super-sanity", it's just a different outlook on life; he's a philosopher of sorts.

I felt no sympathy for him. Every blow that Batman gave him was justified.

I feel the same, and that was a testament to Heath's work & Nolan understanding the character. In B'89 I liked the Joker a little too much, he was funny, but almost never sinister enough for me to actually want to see him go.

But when Batman emerged in the interrogation room, I was excited! I wanted him to break that creep in half, and that's how it should be. This is the reason I was opposed to the permawhite thing (sorry for bringing it up folks) but if he was like that, in Nolan's hyper-realism world, it would need a real explanation, not one of the Joker's made up stories, because it would be almost supernatural. The fact that he's just a normal man who chooses to make himself up like a clown, and goes around killing people with no motive whatsoever, It made me feel zero sympathy. It was a love to hate type of thing, everytime he was on screen I was excited to see what was next, but it wasn't a feeling of love towards him. I very much wanted Batman to beat him up.......bad

Joker was a GENIUS!!!! He had a great idea behind his carnage as to show that when the chips are down ANYBODY can be a ruthless killer. Harvey Dent got to that point and how many cops shoot family members breeding harvey dents all day. Joker explained all this to Batman in the office and it was DEEP. his ideals were wrong but the ideas behind his ideals were on point.

Concept is that at the end of the day God and the Devil are no different and cops are just another MOB. They do what Falcone and them do everyday just to fucj with people sometimes and his whole concept was if you can do it I can. Who are u to tell me what to do and how to do it...NO RULES. True freedom. How he did it was ruthless and wrong but he did make his point that even those u trust can turn on you for their own well being and SURVIVAL instincts. Only one Batman can really trust is The Joker cause he is loyal to his word and means what he says.

I didn't feel sorry for him, but I did route for his message when he made a point. Its not about money but sending a message and that is the mind of a revolutionary for real. Probably actually started as a young revolutionary but got ****ed by the law in so many ways and said u know what **** the world, it's time to make a point.

The Truth is not always enough. sometimes people need more...sometimes we need our faith to be rewarded

Eh. I thin TKJ story weakens the character personally...it humanizes him too much and gives a reason for his madness. I just can't think of him the same way. It makes him look like he's just lashing out at the world for revenge on what happened to him. I prefer the monster and having him lash out just for the sake of it and the reaction it gets.

100% agree with you. I would rather think he was a kid who used to pick on others in the playground for the sake of doing it, then it escalated through his life, until he was utterly bat **** insane
