Here, here. More likeable, more interesting, more believable as a badass, etc.

But what can you do? I just hope we get a Sara/Nyssa origin episode sometime in the future.

Agreed.

Well if the writers notice the fans prefer Sara as the BC to Laurel they might have Sara be brought back from the dead via Lazarus pit later on in season 3 or in season 4.

I think its because she is a male character in a female's body. This makes her easier to identify with for some than an actual female character.

:hehe:

She hit rock bottom and picked herself back up. She fought for justice and wouldn’t abandon people to The Huntress. She literally didn’t go charging in when Slade told her about the Arrow. She took time to figure it out and make sure she was sure. And then she figured out the Canary’s identity all on her own. This woman is seriously too good for Starling.

This is how I see Laurel's growth on the show as well. She still has a ways to go, but she's has been proving herself. I think some fans just don't like Cassidy, and that has colored their outlook. I can understand that to some degree. I'm notorious for my irrational fan-love, so I get it, but I never really saw Lotz as Canary, though she was a very likable character.

Really? I thought Lotz was a fine - often good - Canary. Much as I'm rooting for Laurel, I don't see her taking Sara's place any time soon.

Heck even if Laurel becomes a badass Canary. Most will still prefer Sara as the Canary.

It's like when remakes of a great movies are done like the American version of Oldboy, that film is nowhere near as good as the original South Korean revenge film.

To be honest, we the fans have been talking about since the pilot too. When Canary showed up for the first time, most of us thought it was Laurel. With the way she had become Anti-Arrow, it seemed like the classic Diego de la Vega/ Zorro and Bruce Wayne/Batman dynamic. Canary being Sara was clever, with how it had subverted expectations.

Maybe it's that I always seem to root for the "underdog" of sorts but I'm pretty optimistic for Laurel as the Canary. I liked Sarah quite a bit but come on, Laurel was destined to be the Canary and has been teased as such since the pilot.

Anyone see Katie at the Golden Globes last night? DAYYYYYYYYYUMMMMM

Yeah she did. That's the hottest I think I've EVER seen her look. Wow.

After getting 2 Seasons of Laurel you can't root for, and having her sister being the totally kickass Canary everyone wanted to see, you can't blame the people for not caring the slightest bit what their original plans were.

My sentiments exactly.

The way I feel about Laurel this season is the same way I felt about Lois in season 8 of Smallville. For no reason in particular, I just liked her a lot more, and maybe its because she finally has something to do and is moving in the right direction.

I'm pretty sure that Erica Durance tricked me into liking Lois more than I should have. (Probably teenaged boy being tricked by teenaged boy stuff)

On the flip side, Katie was great as Laurel and it was the writing that turned me off her, just like it was Sarah's writing that made me like her a lot more than I thought I would.

End of the day, Katie's a good actress, and if they write her well, most of us will like her. However, she doesn't have that godly touch that the great actors have (for example Ian McKellan making Gandalf and Magneto seem not super cheesy) that makes a badly written character appear good.

Laurel wasn't HORRIBLE in S1, she just wasn't anything special, S2 I can see people not liking the character as much with the whole revenge at the beginning and constant outbursts, but she has made such a turnaround this season.

There is disliking the character which is fine but it was only 2 seasons. At this point she will have more seasons being great then she will have had being an afterthought/terrible. Some people may come around to her, some may not like her still, and some will try their best to not come around.

They really should have given her a similar background to Lois Lane and made her badass from the start, but they have shown they have a little bit of a hard time handling female characters.

I think Laurel is the only major female character they've consistently not written well.

Laurel had a bad storyline on season 2, a storyline that wasn't even that bad, but it seemed much worse because at the same time there was Sara basicaly being the female Arrow. Season one Laurel was fine and this season she's much better and on the path that ppl wanted her to be from the get go.

Just give it time and ppl will come around. Ever since the last 3 episodes of season 2 you see ppl warming up to her, with the "I didn't completly hate her" or "she wasn't so anoying" to the "she was kind of good this episode". That is very diferent from the "she's stupid", "I hate her", "kill her character" that she was getting through the first half of season two.

Now that the romantic drama that ppl didn't like has been transfered to Felicity who is a fan favourite so they can write those storylines and ppl will pay attention and Laurel is getting towards the kick ass character (and we know from Supernatural that, altough Ruby is very very diferent personality wise from Black Canary, Katie Kassidy was really well received in that role), the hate will eventualy disapear or be very very small.

I'm kinda mixed on Laurel from season 2. I felt like it was necessary to make her look as bad as they made it. Maybe it was bad writing, but I felt like they redeemed themselves at season's end, and in a way, it made it feel worth it. To be honest, I didn't think they'd kill Sara off this season, let alone at all, but I figured she was going to be moving forward regarding going forward.

But as far as writing goes, Thea and Laurel have been the most poorly utitlized and written characters, and I felt like both started off the season as much more interesting characters.

Yeah I liked Laurel in season 1. In season 2 though, it was like they didn't know what to do with her. The whole alcoholic subplot totally came out of nowhere. All of a sudden she was this hardcore drunk and it was like, what the hell?

I feel like that mess started with the end of season 1. She cheats on Tommy with Oliver, and seemingly wants to move forward with him, but then quickly goes back to wanting Tommy right before he sacrificed himself to save her, and she just did a complete 180 by hating the Vigilante after spending much of the season supporting and working with him.

She will find out who actually killed her sister. But when she does find out, I think the audience will be really surprised. Her reaction isn't what you'd expect.

IGN: How has the training been for you? In that boxing scene, you can really see the work.

Cassidy: Yeah. It was pretty intense. It's all about what you put into it. Me as an actor, I want to be as authentic as possible. I didn't want to just be like, "Okay, they're making me train with a trainer three or four times a week." I was like, "I'm going to bust my ass!" I actually ended up with three different trainers. I had a boxing trainer -- a fighting trainer -- then a weightlifting trainer, and then I did Callanetics. So it was all different types, but I didn't want my stunt double doing all the fight scenes -- like that boxing scene. I wanted that to be me. So I was actually training six days a week, three hours a day for a couple of months. If I had a longer period of time -- I mean, I was so into it. I was watching Million Dollar Baby at night, like, "I want to be like Hilary Swank!" [Laughs] But I wanted it to be real. I feel like that's what Laurel would be doing. It was definitely hard, especially once we started shooting, but I knew at some point -- you put all this time and effort into it -- I want to say probably around November, I could back off a little bit, because once you have that muscle you don't have to work so hard. Once it's there it's like, "Okay. I can chill a little bit." So it's definitely not as intense right now, but I'm definitely still training. I used to be a competitive gymnast, so I try to incorporate as much as I can. It's been amazing.
