Disney's Frozen - Part 3

Now can Disney keep it up? :ninja:

Saturday estimate is 1.4m, the early 3m estimate for the weekend appears to be spot on.

While Frozen seems unaffected by competition (-17.4% this weekend), Lego took a huge hit, dropping over -45.7% to 11.005m. Just goes to show how strong Frozen's holds really are and that those kinds of holds are not the norm, even for other huge animated movies, like Lego.

Ya know, it does look like there is going to be a Frozen 2, and it also looks like that the original cast loves these characters so much that they are willing to stick with this little train that could for the duration.

The Lopez's have quite mountain to climb with #2.

NO! NO! to a sequel. :fst:

Well, it is going to happen....and hey, maybe it could be a Toy Story 3 kind of thing.

Pixar has made 4 sequels (Toy Story 2 & 3, Cars 2, and Monsters University), and with the exception of Cars 2 the other sequels were done pretty well. If Disney can take a page out of their sister company with Frozen 2, then it might turn out to be a decent sequel.

It would have to be The Dark Knight and Spider-Man 2 of Disney sequels.

Because Frozen is a part of the main Disney Animated lore, they probably should tread lightly. I mean the only sequel that worked out was The Rescuers Down Under and dare I say it was better than the original.

In reality, direct theatrical release sequels are pretty much uncharted territory for a majorly successful Disney Animated movie.
The only theatrical sequels I can think of are Rescuers Down Under and maybe Fantasia 2000 and Winnie The Pooh (those last 2 are borderline to be called sequels), none of them were coming off anything remotely like Frozen's success. Mostly Disney has done cheap straight to DVD sequels with mostly different (meaning cheaper to hire) writers and voice cast, although I think those in charge now are doing away with straight to DVD sequels, which may explain why they are more open to a theatrical sequel.
If they do go with a sequel, I hope they work in the Rapuzel is their cousin angle, even if it's a small part of the movie.

There hasn't been any direct to DVD sequels since the Eisner days. It's actually harder to find them on DVD/Blu.

On Amazon, Return of Jarrar is like 40 bucks because it's out of print. And it's all intentional.

I think I can hold out until the Blu-Ray comes out.

I think I can.......I think I can.......I think I can........

The blu-ray I preordered comes with a digital copy, so I'll just tough out the next week so I can redeem it then.

Planes (2013) was originally planned as a straight to video release (although I suppose it would technically be a spin-off). I believe when they changed their minds they replaced virtually all of the original voice actors and re-recorded the dialogue.

But Dane Cook stayed right? He probably begged.

I don't know who the original voices were, but at a guess I'd say the ones that stayed were Dane Cook, Val Kilmer and Sinbad. I mean, how much cheaper can you get than those 3?

How did Val Kilmer end up being in a group with.... Sinbad...and Dane Cook. So sad.

That's because he has gotten fat and ugly, so the only work he can find is the VO. :o

wait....have they actually confirmed a sequel??

I'd be fine with it only if Elsa plays a more prominent role...........

and if she finds true wuv too..........:o :atp:

Yeah, I would hope that we get more of Elsa's story, so to speak, in a sequel. But, I think what made the first movie so different, was that it wasn't about a princess finding her true love, and I don't want them to simply go back to that because of a lack of imagination.

well, it would have to make sense and add to the story.

for Elsa's LI, I think it would be neat if he, too, had powers of his own. (Elsa can't be the only magically gifted person that exists in that world).

perhaps he is a prince from a rival kingdom and could serve as the main "villain" for the movie (a villain who'd reform in the end).

so, Elsa would be torn between finding someone "like her" who she can relate to, but also she must protect her kingdom as Queen.

I think if they want to make a sequel, the challenge will be to tell an unconventional story but still keep it compelling. And the first movie is about the strained relationship between Elsa and Anna, as well as Elsa's struggle with her secret and her exile as a result of her power's revelation. The sequel will have to find a plot and story that will give the sisters an emotional journey and obstacles for them to overcome.

agreed.

and it certainly is going to be a challenge to top the 1st one.

not just story and character wise, but also the songs.

I really kind of dislike that, no offense. It is the problem with a sequel, as they would likely give Elsa a love interest, and in doing so it takes away some of what made her so unique and empowering to young girls in this great original film. Especially if it is another man with powers. Her powers in Frozen have an allegorical symbolism. Making it about pairing her away with the right match just reminds me of those awful Disney DTV movies from the '90s. Like the Hunchback of Notre Dame one that Disney regrettably made.

well, I'd like Elsa to have a love interest.

but story and characterization are more important.

and what Frozen did was turn typical conventions on their head, and I think the sequel should follow that spirit.

if they can write in a love interest for Elsa that works in that context, fine. if not, then they shouldn't do it.

I'd rather have no sequel at all and just leave the story as is than get a "cheap" sequel that feels more like an attempt to cash in on the franchise.

and I don't think giving Elsa a LI would take anything away from her, as long as it is done right.
