Disney's Frozen - Part 3

Trust me, I work in the field as a PA..it's pretty damn unstable. You have to LOVE it to stay in the game, and be willing to accept the BS like that. Or even prepare to move to Toronto for projects, etc.

ah, that's unfortunate the industry is like that. hopefully, the success of Frozen will help those laid off animators find work elsewhere.

btw.....what's a PA?

Honestly, when you see it first hand, it's really..words can't describe it. Either people get emotional or they're so desensitized.

Not many of the cast of OUAT look all that much like their DISNEY-fied counterparts except in the broadest sense.

You got a point there. Plus there's nothing stopping the makeup and wardrobe department from putting wigs and contact lenses on Menzel and Bell if they wanted to do OUAT.

and the thing with Frozen is......I felt the hype really started AFTER the film was released ( or shortly before when the early reviews started coming in ).

I've discussed it before, but I honestly felt the marketing/hype for this was lacking before it came out. especially when compared to something like, say, Despicable Me 2. Advertisement/marketing for DM2 seemed to be everywhere, even well before it's release. Those minions were everywhere, it seemed.

I remember talking with a friend, who's a movie buff, and this was 2 weeks to the day before Frozen released, and she had no idea that a new Disney princess movie was coming out.

I mean......I was genuinely worried that Frozen was going to underperform due to the seeming "lack" of marketing prerelease.

I was wondering about the pre-release marketing myself. I like animated movies and saw several last year including The Croods, Epic and Despicable me and never saw a Frozen trailer. I literally knew absolutely nothing about it until I finally saw a TV spot 2 days before it opened and noticed Kristen Bell's name and decided to see it.
I honestly didn't even know it was a musical until the opening scene.
After it ended I wanted to see it again immediately, and I would have except every show for the rest of the day was already sold out, so I got a ticket for the next day.
This is the first time an animated movie has ever been my favorite movie of a given year, and I'm definitely not the original target demographic.
I definitely picked a winner to obsessively track, I can't wait until the day Frozen passes Iron Man 3 as the #1 movie of 2013.:woot:
Nobody realistically believed Frozen could pass IM3 with just Japan left and needing about 190 million, especially when the all time highest movie in Japan did 230, but it's looking more and more likely. Close to 120 million already and Golden week coming up which should have it 145-149m by next Sunday and then a couple more GW days left and it could be over 165m the following week. Just an insane run.

I had actually seen quite a few trailers for it here on Houston TV.

Wow, I didn't know I'd find a thread in a superhero forum about Disney's Frozen. Anyway, I think Frozen IS a good movie although it has loop holes here and there. The 3D effects were awesomely done. I particularly love the ice and snow effects.

Who's your favorite Frozen character? Anyone?

WELCOME TO THE HYPE.

Elsa of course!

I thought the other sister should get fire or wind powers. It feels lopsided otherwise.

I like the movie version but if they inserted this scene it would've been terrific.

I got bored of this movie. Didn't even get to "Let it out" or whatever that song is called. Yes i sold my soul for a pack of salted peanuts a long, long time ago.

I'm in the minority, but Anna.

I like Elsa due to her being a sympathetic character, having to hide her powers and be afraid all her life. But I felt that Anna is the real heroine in the movie, and it is due to her determination and love for her sister that ultimately saved both sisters in the end. I know some people apparently do not like Anna and that is always perplexing to me, because I don't think (aside from her obsession of falling in love) that there is anything bad about her.

I thought the other sister should get fire or wind powers. It feels lopsided otherwise.

That would be a great idea for a sequel, to see how Anna can deal with her own gift and experience her sister's side for a change.

Welcome, Elsa is my favorite character.

And so begins the monster Golden Week in Japan.

While it doesn't officially begin until tomorrow, a lot of people in Japan took today off and it is showing in the boxoffice. Frozen is tracking double last Monday, almost 2 million. The real fun starts tomorrow, Frozen is getting back the seats it lost and is being moved back into the biggest auditoriums (only makes sense since it crushed the competition over the weekend again). Frozen is expected put up weekdays of 4 million or better for the rest of the week, it will be like every day is Sunday (the biggest day every week) and Frozen could have it's biggest weekend, maybe topping 10 million.

Showtimes for Tuesday are already reporting sell outs. Here's list of showtimes for tomorrow someone posted:

Aeon is the biggest chain in Japan, Toho is 2nd biggest 9but TOHO reports numbers early which is why they are used to estimate numbers)

Interesting sales figures.

http://jezebel.com/who-is-the-most-popular-disney-princess-on-ebay-1568896937

1. Elsa - $3,397,816
2. Cinderella - $2,504,259
3. Snow White - $2,301,831
4. Anna -$2,165,120
5. Ariel - $1,483,384
6. Rapunzel - $598,056
7. Aurora - $215,856
8. Merida - $282,188
9. Jasmine - $253,102
10. Tiana- $84,882
11. Belle - $6,867

What's worth noting is these sales figures are from the period starting May 2013, but Frozen didn't open until the end of November so those Elsa and Anna figures are for just 5 months compared to a full year for the others.

I guess young girls don't like Mulan. Then again, she's more like a warrior than a princess in actuality.

I doubt there was ever much Mulan merch produced to begin with.

I'm glad they did it they way they did....people crying and singing at the same time annoys me...lol

I'm shocked (and saddened) about Belle being at the bottom of the list! And I'm pretty surprised that Ariel isn't higher on the list.

Frozen is doing even more insane today than expected.
By the looks of it Frozen is on pace to have the biggest single day of its run in Japan so far.:wow:
Hard to say exactly, it was so busy the system crashed and as many as 48 showtimes are missing from the total number so we won't have accurate estimates until later, but we do have some estimates of the % of all seats sold for 2 theaters.
TOHO is reporting 82.7% saturation
109 is reporting 91.2% saturation

If the rest of Golden Week is like Tuesday Frozen could blow past 150 mil by Sunday (I was expecting about 145m).:woot:

It also looks like theater managers are finally cluing in to Frozen's beastly run, they are adding a ton of seats for this weekend (every other movie shown is losing seats).

Last Saturday- 38,431 seats, 157 showtimes
This Saturday- 60,287 seats, 158 showtimes

Only 1 extra showtime, but it looks like Frozen is getting the biggest screens again.

I hope Disney does not take as long as it did with a The Incredible sequel with a Frozen sequel
