Doctor Strange Casting Poll **NEW** - Part 1

With the rumored selections for Doctor Strange, we can assume Marvel is going for someone either extremely popular on TV or a film star. Suggestions for Pedro Pascal, Aiden Gillen etc just don't make much sense.

That's because they are cast members on Game of Thrones, which outside of Nathan Fillion (who I like on Castle) is everyone's choice to be in every Comic book movie.

So damn tiring.

Yeah because Chris Hemsworth was such a big name when he was cast as Thor, oh wait no he wasn't. His biggest role was a ten minute appearance at the beginning of ST09, and a lot of people didn't even realize that he was the same guy initially.

I get the love for Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and the girl who plays Arya (for other roles)
But I dont even get the love for Pedro Pascal. I wouldnt hate if he got it, but I watch GoT. His role wasn't that special. There's only one scene for why his character is so famous.

Yes, but why does every cast member on that show needs to be fancast into every Comic book movie?

If Dinklage wasn't already in the X-Universe....

Drinklage for everything. Have him as a one man comic book movie.

Create a comic book character just for him so it can be adapted to screen.

Hmmm... The Dynamic Dinkler? The Devastating Dinkleberry?

Yes, but why does every cast member on that show needs to be fancast into every Comic book movie?

Because too many nerds only watch nerd shows/movies, and Game of Thrones probably has the best overall cast and largest audience of any active nerd show.

Ditto with Benedict Cumberbatch, Viggo Mortensen, and every cast member on Firefly. They're good, and they are on nerd shows, so nerds fancast them in other nerd properties. SEE ALSO: Katee Sackhoff

They're not necessarily bad suggestions, but they do suggest either a lack of viewing range (i.e. the people aren't watching non-nerd shows) or lack of imagination (i.e. people can't mentally transfer good actors on the non-nerd shows/movies they watch into superhero properties).

P.S.
This lack of imagination also manifests itself in regard to physical appearance, hence a bunch of people only considering actors who have already played roles with Stephen Strange-esque facial hair, and fancasting Lex Luthor actors because they have already played bald characters.

lol at people getting annoyed about certain actors being preferred choices for fancasts. You know we're in our own little bubble when we think **** like that is worth getting annoyed about.

I don't see the fuss in getting annoyed about it when they're all good actors anyway.

It's likely because I am one of only five people in the world who does not watch Game of Thrones.

Then why criticize actors with whom you've never seen....a lot of whom have had their biggest/best roles on the show?

I mean it's perfectly fine not to like it and not watch, but seems a bit ridiculous to me to take your position against all actors involved with the show. There is a lot of untapped talent in the show for films.

Staying on topic though, I'll agree with you the Pedro Pascal fancast is one I don't get.

It feels like fanboys have a small pool they choose from regarding casting, that's the thing. Always the same people. I wouldn't care if the guy is the second coming of Laurence Olivier. I wouldn't want to see him play every single part.

That pool is made up mostly of actors who have already done genre fare. And sometimes wrestlers.

Yeah, thank Christ we've passed that period where wrestlers were widely suggested for CBMs. Though, who knows how ****ing Bautista will change that...

I'm still very surprised by Batista's performance. As I said in another thread, it might not be good enough to prove that he can carry a movie by himself. But it was a lot better than I expected, he showed a lot of different emotions well

Bautista was great in Guardians. It was a truly free and believable performance. I think Gunn must have showed a lot of belief in him, boosted his confidence.

True, but the degree of difficulty that the part involved was expertly managed for someone of Bautista's acting experience. The role basically required him to look stoic and deadpan lines for the most part. Yes, it worked so well, but in the end it was architecture as much as execution that made Drax. Kudos to Marvel, Gunn and of course, Bautista himself.

Back to Dr. Strange, aside from actors in this list... speaking of Game of Thrones actors, would Kit Harrington do as Strange? I thought of him as someone who would look good with a goatee and white hair streaks. Though I have a certain voice in mind. I need to look it up.
