Doctor Strange Casting Poll **NEW** - Part 1

I wouldn't be on fire for Cumberbatch, yet it wouldn't upset me either. Marvel has a knack for casting so I trust them regardless.

I wonder if we'll get casting news at SDCC? Feige did say that he hoped to make an announcement pretty soon.

I'd be stoked. I have yet to get Cumby burnout and he'd be a great choice -- not because of the ZOMG SHERLOCK HE SO COOL train, but because he'd genuinely be a great fit. As I've mentioned, like RDJ, he's one of the sparse actors who can convincingly pull of being brilliant, mysterious, a complete dick, and totally likeable at the same time. He's very good with funny throwaway lines as well; not just sarcastic quips but lines that cast the character in a humorous light without hamming it up (unless otherwise directed). I know I didn't like Depp because he's an obvious choice like this one -- but I'm just... just so bored and annoyed with Depp's recent output.

Anyway, if it isn't him, I'd be open to whomever else they're looking at. As discussed here alone, there's a vast array of actors who could probably handle the mantle just as well.

I was holding out for BC to be Ultron or Thanos, but both of them didn't happen. I wouldn't mind him as Doctor Strange. Also, depending on how they write/direct him, it could be potentially be different from his usual cold sociopath-type roles.

If it is Cumberbatch, I'd buy my tickets the second they confirmed his casting.

And that's the biggest issue with Cumberbatch. He's unconventionally attractive.

I.E. He's kinda weird looking, but attractive at the same time.

And that's kind of a bad fit for Strange, who's most often depicted with typical leading man good looks, as with most comic book heroes.

That said, Cumberbatch has enough talent where I believe most, myself included, will be able to look past it.

I will say this..... as with many others, he wasn't my first choice. In fact, Benicio Del Toro has been my first choice for a VERY long time. But Marvel, as they did with Djimon Hounsou and Idris Elba (whom should've been saved for a Black Panther film) cast him in another role, wasting an opportunity they had for another, better fitted, casting.
Cumberbatch isn't attractive enough? He is too strange to play Dr. Strange? I think I am going to have to check tumblr again to confirm this. :funny:

And people really want Jared Leto instead. Really?

That is what I am talking about. :highfive:

You clearly haven't seen enough of Leto's work to be so dismissive of his support here. :whatever:

I have seen plenty of his work. He is a good actor, but I don't like him (a prime example of what is wrong with media and "art" in this day and age), and I really like the character of Strange. I'd like to enjoy a Dr. Strange film. When I heard the Depp rumors I was beyond afraid. But I'd take Depp before Leto. I want Strange to be a "MAN" someone who commands with a look and with his voice.

Also, in terms of work, lets not act like there isn't a gulf here. Cumberbatch is a Big Boss level here, from screen and stage. A young Sir Ian in terms of stature, who brings instance depth and credibility to every role he is in.

That being said if Ramirez, Hardy or someone else as qualified and not named Leto got the role, I'd be very pleased. At this point I am in the, "please don't be Leto or Depp" frame of mind, with a slim hope that Cumberbatch, who I love, gets the role.

So you wouldn't even give Leto a chance? He could be fantastic and completely own the role for all we know, if he's been cast.

It is very simple. I don't like him at all nor does he fit my vision of the character in the least. This isn't a Ben Affleck situation were I could theoretically be won over, because hey dude has talent and doesn't make me want to roll my eyes at the sight of him. After what happened with Ant-Man, I am getting use to the idea of skipping the individual films I don't care for.

Pretty much all of this!

Plus I love the idea of Cumberbatch acting off of Downey at some point.

I'm naturally sceptical about the source of the story though - The One Ring might just have the best story out there that almost nobody else is picking up on!

I wouldn't be ******** if Cumberbatch gets Dr. Strange, but it would be a tad too "safe" of a choice to me. Sure, he'd bring a great degree of gravitas and intellect to the role, but that would be going for "your father's Dr. Strange," Vincent Price/Christopher Lee style. If they went for someone like Leto, it'd be a more refreshing modern take on the role, with Strange being more of a New Age-style seeker of spirituality through the occult. Leto's got that down pat.

With Cumberbatch confirmed for an SDCC appearance, I'd say the safe bet is that he *is* being announced for Dr. Strange. But I'm holding out hope that they'll announce he's Mordo, with Leto playing Strange.

Cumberbatch is going to be at Comic-Con for Dreamworks no matter what. So his appearance there confirms nothing.

Also, I'd suggest watching more of Cumberbatch's work. He works as Sherlock because he is modern.

Ohhh... Cumberbatch seems more likely than ever, I like it. BC is one of my favourite actors, not just because of Sherlock but because of his intellectual brilliance and understanding he brings to each role he plays. And he is sexy as ****. He was my top choice for Strange from the moment I first saw him and I'm a huge fan of Strange.

Cumberbatch may not have time to do this. I assume this is a multi-picture deal and the guy has a ton of movies coming out in the next couple years, plus more Sherlock episodes, and likely an appearance in the next Star Trek film. Plus he'll also be touring with his band. :cwink:

The same could be said for Leto.
But *if* either Leto or Cumberbatch apply for the job, I'm sure Marvel will work around their schedule over the next few years.

I'm perfectly fine with cumberpatch. I think he could pull it off, and I think his tall lanky frame would fit in for Dr. Strange.

Honestly, I want Cumberbatch to retire from acting because I am sick of hearing his name for everything.

Benedict Cumberbatch has to be in a superhero movie eventually. If he doesn't play Dr. Strange, he should be Dream in Sandman

Thats a bit extreme. A damn fine actor should retire just because a person is sick of other people suggesting him for roles. Hmm....ok.

^^^Honestly, I want Cumberbatch to retire from posting because I am sick of reading his posts everywhere.

In his time, Timothy Dalton would have made a great Dr Strange
