2 Strange Pics and Avengers 3 by 2018?

I don't think he means exclusively in that order. More likey a Dr. Strange movie, A3, then at least a Dr. Strange sequel.
@batmannerism
While everyone you chose would technically work in those respective roles because they're all fine actors who typically play those roles, they all seem a bit like cookie cutter choices imo. I'd be disappointed if they were the cast.
Fair call. So who would you pick, who would be a slighlty unorthodox choice, but then would dazzle in the role ?
I just can visualize Cumberbatch in the role easiest -maybe that's a cookie
cutter choice, but casting is so important ( eg. Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern was a terrible choice, but Reynolds as Deadpool was hilarious).
IMO for villains, you kind of need someone who has a reputation for playing bad guys (like Strong or Isaacs, or Rickman), villains I think need
to be cookie cutter choices really.
My personal list for strange would be:
If they go younger:
Jake gyllanhaal
Luke Evans
Jack huston
Edgar Ramirez
If they go more mature:
Chiwetel Ejiofor
Jeffery Dean Morgan
Javier Bardem
Joaquin Phoenix
And my Baron Mordo list:
Javier Bardem
Edgar Ramirez
Joaquin Phoenix
Two of my favorite pairings would be Chiwetel's Strange against Joaquin's Mordo.
If they were to go with an eccentric Doc Strange I still feel Johnny Depp would best be suited to saying crap like BY THE HOARY HOAST OF HOGGOTH and have us believe in it, but Phoenix has a creepy intensity about him that would make is Strange very intriguing.

I must be the only one who doesn't feel the need to cram Strange into an Avengers pic.
Johnny Depp playing "eccentric dude in a funny costume" is old hat at this point. AKA, boring & predictable.
I don't agree at all. Ledger blows that theory out of the water. Sebastian Stan was fantastic as WS, also. Just 2 examples.
Johnny Depp hasn't been in a good movie in a long, long time.
He was once on my favorites list along with Jeffrey dean Morgan. I'd still take him but most see him as a villain.
I see a lot of your reasonings for some actors being right or wrong for role are based on the certain chracters tbey typically play. With Cumberpatch, on paper yeah he could play Strange because he already plays something similar to Strange in Sherlock. And I think JDM would be an interesting choice because if he plays "rough around the edges" type characters, wouldn't it be great to see him play something else? And I feel like Strange is somewhat rough around the edges at first but goes through a life experience that makes him otherwise, see here:
"An arrogant surgeon who loses the ability to use his hands causing him to lose his livelihood as a surgeon. facing depression and despair, he finds himself desperate enough to travel across the globe to get unconventional healing from a man who may or may not even exist. He then becomes disciplined in mind, body and soul. As the sorcerer supreme he becomes refined and precise like a surgeon's scalpel, a sacred defender of the realm and a better man underneath it all. "
The thing about isaacs and strong are, yes they make great villains, but we always get them as villains, it gets tiring because we know what to expect. Strong made a great sinestro not because sinestro was a villain (which he wasnt) but because sinestro was interesting character and strong fit the mannerisms and physical attributes of him. I like watching those guys more when they're not playing the villain.
You can just google baron mordo and look through the images and see plenty of inspired choices for the role, most of which are people who dont often play villains but they play great characters.
For these cbms a lot of the time the villain goes through a transformation and its fun to see these transformations because we're seeing character and personality changes that make us wonder why, or what they they'll become. We began to see that with Winter Soldier.
The joker being a special case because it wasnt a transformation we saw with him it was a revelation of his character that made him good, and the actor portraying him didn't play a great villain because he was just good at it, he made a great villain because he played a great character.
And on jake gyllanhaal being too boyish. I would've said the same thing a few years ago, but truth be told I really think he's out grown the boyish thing. He's 33 and looks more mature these days aslo taking more mature roles. He was great in prisoners as detective loki.
I think he has the chops and the star power to play a younger Dr. Strange. its not a typical hero role, he's young so longevity wouldn't be an issue, and he's an A list name that people will go see imo, especially in a marvel flick.
I agree that Gyllenhall definitely has the acting chops to play Strange - and the more I think about it, that's probably the most important thing really. To be honest, I think Gyllenhall would make a much better Captain America than Chris Evans - who plays the role with all the depth of a cardboard cut-out IMO.
I suppose the casting for Strange would also depend on what kind of interpretation they take (I mean Yondu in GOTG film was very different to comic book Yondu, but IMO much more fun and interesting). I always picture Strange as a bit snobby and effete, and the rough bits come from his descent into booze and drugs - something that James Macavoy did brilliantly when playing the self-pitying Charles Xavier in DOFP.
Maybe Richard Armitage would sort of fit my version of Strange, but it really comes down to how the writers see him.
As far as Strong as Sinestro goes, I think it's a combination of Sinestro being one of DC's best villains, but also that Strong was a natural for the role - he plays cunning, stiff-upper-lip bad guys superbly.
I know that it does get a bit tedious seeing Strong in villainous roles, I remember a couple of years back it seemed like he was the bad guy in every second film. Still, he never puts in a poor performance as a villain ( a bit like Alan Rickman). I think he perhaps realises that he is always going to get cast in particular roles, and just accepts it.
What about Keanu Reeves as Strange ? He does the brooding thing pretty well. Maybe it would be hard to believe him as a brain surgeon, but otherwise, he might be able to pull it off.
