They're also meant to make it faster to walk up and down floors. So it's considered good form to leave one side (usually the inside) free for people to walk.

Even more so for the moving sidewalks like those in airports, which are really there to help speed up getting across the airport. And not just so people don't have to walk so much.

This is America jack, it don't work that way.

If I wanted to walk up and down stairs, I'd take the actual stairs. If I'm on an escalator, I'm letting it do the moving for me.

When you combine the movement of the escalator and the movement of your own feet, it actually makes the escalator ride shorter than just taking the stairs or just waiting for the escalator to get you where you're going. And in cases like that, where you're rushing trying to catch a train or something, any extra time you can gain is very helpful. So I completely sympathize with Travesty for being upset because its happened to me on several occasions and it sucks knowing you missed your train because someone in front of you kept you from getting to where you needed to be on time.

There have been times where I've been too tired to walk up the stairs, but I still have the common courteousy to not be in the way of people who I see are behind me and are trying to walk up it.

I just had a funny thought:

When you need to get up/down an escalator quickly but the person in front of you is just standing there, do you say "Excuse me" and ask them to stand aside so you can get by, or do you awkwardly stand behind them and wish they'll magically read your mind in any given second?

I hate how Scream Factory doesn't seem to release a lot of their Blu-rays in most stores. I don't want to preorder them on Amazon as much because I want to pay my credit card down, but I can't find them at Target or Walmart stores. I guess I'm lucky that a large amount of horror films they're choosing to release are fairly godawful to downright terrible. I've mainly been interested in a relatively small amount.

Again, thats a you problem. Leave your house earlier.:o

Its not as simple as leaving the house earlier. I run into this everyday going and coming from work, and its hard to avoid in certain places where stairs are not an option.

And I'm not saying that there aren't extra steps that people can take to avoid running into this issue. But its one thing to have an elderly person in the way who cannot move, and an entirely other thing to have someone who sees you but will not at least move over because they're too lazy or inconsiderate.

The whole concept of the escalator was created because people are too lazy! I've never encountered this problem and it seems like more of this ridiculous notion that your time is more important than someone else's. This whole thing is ridiculous. You people are probably the same *******s that honk your horn the second the light turns green.

Basically what I'm getting out of this is "I'm too lazy to walk on escalators so no one else should be able to!"

Its more like "The staircase is moving on its own. I don't see the point of moving with it as it defeats the purpose."

The escalator was made to get from point A to point B faster. It's the exact same idea with the moving sidewalks in an airport. They have those, so you don't miss your flight, not to stand there and go slower than regular walking.

And again, if you wanna be lazy and stand on an escalator, than stay to the right.

You need to set your alarm 10 minutes earlier if this is an issue for you.:o

Moving sidewalks...the lazy man's moonwalk.

Also the idea that escalators were invented to get you from "Point A to Point B faster" is something you guys manufactured. They were invented simply as new way to get from Point A to Point B, period.

Well, if there is one thing Darth is good at, it's defending his right to be an *******.

Okay, so how about this? I get out of work at 6:00pm, and I make sure I punch out at 6 on the dot. Now I walk to the train station, which is about a mile away. I walk because by the time the bus arrives, I would have been waiting over 25 minutes. When I get to the station, the train I try to catch arrives and leaves at 6:25pm, which is right around the time I arrive at the station. If I catch that train, I can be back into the city in 10 minutes and still catch an express train that will get me back home by 7:15pm, leaving me with enough time to cook dinner and take care of stuff at home before its time to go to bed. But if I miss that train, I have to wait another 20 minutes before the next train comes, and then have to take a local train that won't get me home until 8pm at the earliest.

With what you're saying, I should leave work early. But since I'm not allowed to do that, I do the best that I can to make sure I get to that station in time to catch that train. But it doesn't matter how hard I try, because if I'm on one of the escalators and someone or a group of people decide to stand idly in the middle of the escalator, those 10-30 seconds that I miss out are on crucial because every second counts at that point. I mean, they don't call it rush hour for nothing. If it's 12pm on a casual Saturday afternoon, its no problem. But if its during a time of day where I need to be at a certain place at a certain time and you're preventing me from getting there, you're better believe that I'll be annoyed.

I'd make the argument that they were created to provide an easier mode of transportation for those who are unable to walk up or down stairs, whether it be because of a disability or because of old age.

Oh well.:o

You could argue that but you would be wrong.

Instead of walking there, run. Then when you get to the escalator you can relax as it takes you up or down depending on where you're going.

Wait. So instead of walking, including walking on the escalator, to where he's going, he should run...so he can be lazy on the escalator...
