Duncan Jones' Warcraft - Part 2

I will say that quality of the CGI aside, I really like that movies like Warcraft and Jurassic World are at least going for brighter colors and not trying to hide everything in shadows and rain. It feels like a lot of movies go the BvS route with night, heavy rain and dark colors, to hide the flaws. The CGI in JW or Warcraft may not be perfect but at least they give it to us in daylight.

BvS really has nothing to do with this convo but alright.

I think Warcraft looks cheap, I'm not giving it credit for it's visuals. I'll give it credit if it is a good movie for sure.

damn did this thread become schlock full of negativity or what this is still duncan jones have faith guys

And that's the only reason I am still curious about this. If JOnes wasn't attached I wouldnt be interested after the trailers.

I didn't like the trailers for Source Code either so we'll see. But this still doesn't look like a theater watch to me

Duncan Jones is the only reason I have any hope for this movie still. Well that and the lead from Vikings is awesome.

My Hype wife is so wise.

I love Source Code and I thought Moon was fine but I don't like it nearly as much as others do. I know I'm going to get murdered for that opinion because it's a huge fav here.

I definitely believe that it could just be terrible trailers. I thought Edge of Tomorrow had poor trailers and found the film itself to be solid fun. I'm wondering if this is an Edge of Tomorrow deal or what. Hopefully it is.

To be fair...If people wanna be hyped for the film, then let them.

Here is the thing. I personally thought the Edge of Tomorrow trailers looked good, and most importantly at least showed a visually interesting film. Warcraft looks so dependent on the Orcs being genuine characters, them looking so weak doesn't give me much hope. Same with the humans, who just look odd imo.

Edge of Tomorrow is actually a good example of a movie that had horrible marketing but completely blew people away. Dredd was another movie that looked terrible to begin with, but ended up being a nice little action movie. Then you have movies with great marketing that ends up pretty terrible like Paranormal Activity.

I didn't use to pay much attention to marketing, but after the campaign Deadpool had, my interest in it has gone up. It's fascinating how a marketing team (who aren't involved in the actual moviemaking process) can make or break a movie with the material they put out. I hope we get more marketing campaigns like Deadpool's.

Your opinion about EOT trailers is fair.

You hit the nail on the head about a big problem that I too have with the trailers and probably will have with the film. The Orc's visuals are so distracting to me that I can't take them seriously as characters.

They looked placed in almost every shot of the trailer. Like they aren't of the world. You'd think the blending would be better, but as you said it is distracting.

Sweet, the criticism is finally constructive.

Just saw the trailers back to back and the Orcs still don't bug me as the humans/actor in make-up relative to the CG characters/world in a couple shots here & there. I noticed some improvement after seeing the recent hyperactive trailer (golly that dialogue) from that one scene in which Fimmel's character hands Patton's character that dagger.

The criticism was always constructive. Not my prob if you are slow on the uptake. We all have our moments so that's forgivable.

Apologies if I hadn't specified the length at which we spent on Jurassic World being an utter waste all things considered.

I didn't read much of the critiques before the tangent I unfortunately started.

Duncan Jones said Sam Raimi's version problem was that he wanted evil orcs vs. good humans.

However, it's hard to see how his version is that much different going by the trailers. Yeah I can see there are good orcs who might align with the humans. But it looks like the Alliance Asteroth people are nice peace-loving humans who are cool with interacting and integrating with other races. It just seems like the orcs are arriving to take over their kingdom and destroy it. So it looks like the Alliance has no choice but to fight against them, but they'll team up with the good, pink skinned orcs.

Not at all. There's definitely bad guys on the human side as well.

There's definitely gonna be "that guy" who isn't happy with his current rank among the humans. You know, that guy who has been "loyal" and been a fighter/general for years serving under Travis Fimmel. Then when the orcs show up and cause chaos, and the human leader starts working together with some of the orcs, "that guy" uses this to his advantage to split the humans, rallying some of them behind a "We can't trust the orcs" philosophy, and those humans will be as much bad guys as the bad orcs will be.

That's my guess at least.
