Then they should have made it a full mo-cap animated film. They is no point in make a live-action film with real actors and sets if the costumes and props are going to be unconvincing. They whole point of a live action film is to bring something to "life". There needs to be some realism. Yes, it is good that they are going for a different aesthetic than LoTR, but they need to pull it off, which they aren't with the Alliance side of things. The example from Gladiator is not distinguishable. The particular set of armor I referenced was the highly theatrical armor of a champion Gladiator. It was not the practical armor of Maximus's legionaries. It is an example of over the top, theatrical armor effectively brought to life on film. It's like the old Batsuit argument. Some claimed that that a comics accurate Batsuit would look like the spandex of the Dead End suit. Well, the Batfleck suit was comics accurate while still looking believable on film.[/QUOTE
Making something live action does not necessitate the kind of aesthetic you're wishing for. It's fine that you're not into it but it's simply not what they're doing. It's not as if they tried something g and failed.
This movie is more akin to something like Speed Racer or Burton's Alice In Wonderland films. This actually brings to mind film aesthetics like Never ending Story or Labyrinth. Honestly, what do you think of films like Terry Gilliam's?
