Duncan Jones' Warcraft - Part 2

Just saw the PAX east trailer and while it was ****** quality (someone filmed it with their cellphone), that trailer was really good, especially compared to the official ones we've gotten. It goes more into the story in the movie and is actually a really good trailer. Why not put that out as a major trailer for the movie rather than putting out a few OK ones?

do you have a link?

Just looked up the pax trailer. Definitely a step up from the footage we've seen. Has me much more hopeful for the film.

That trailer is still one big cliche, maybe more so then the others, with the biggest benefit of not being in HD, so the look of the film isn't as obviously harsh. Also, 90% of that is the same footage we have already seen...

If you wanna piss on the parade then that's fair but complaining about a trailer for a blockbuster movie being cliche is just about the dumbest thing ever. They all are! Whether it's a new Civil War or X-Men trailer, or the trailer for The Force Awakens, you can count the different points those trailers hit on one hand.

I would have posted the red band Deadpool trailer, but that isn't allowed here. So I used that one as a stand in.

Of course what you fail to understand is that the movie and its story look like one big old cliche and the presentation of the trailer doesn't help one bit. Nothing about the visuals or story look new. All old hat. And not even a nice hat. You bring up the new X-Men trailer, which presents new visuals at the very least. It has charm. There is no charm here. The Warcraft trailer really does look like Hobbit-lite without Bilbo or Gandalf to bring the fun. So while you are complaining about trailer structure in marketing, I am talking about a movie that just looks boring as hell.

By the way, notice that TFA main trailer avoids explaining the story. But I'd love an example of all the trailers that are like TFA. You know, with the presentations of the three new major characters, that shifts to the idea of history. I didn't know most franchises had that ability. Or you know, the last time a major film avoided showing the hero being the hero.

Yeah, this movie is going to bomb. There's no buzz around it, and looking at the trailers, it's easy to see why.

Oh, well. Maybe Assassin's Creed will finally break the video game movie curse.

who cares if it has a cliche vibe as long as the story is told well thats all that matters

avatar has a cliche story but cameron tells it in such a way that it is very engaging fun movie

AC might be good, but they set their self up for disappointment with that 200 mill budget.

$200 million? OMG I had no idea they were spending that much on that movie. It has to REALLY deliver to be a hit. Wow.

Those are some great trailers. I can't agree with the "it has been done before" because this is the first movie of a franchise and all the artwork and character designs are brand new in a movie environment. Being an on/off WoW/WC3 player through the years, I personally enjoy seeing some of these things finally coming to life on the full screen. I have some fears, for example, while I'm fully on board with orcs being CGI/mocap, did they really need to do that with the dwarves? In one way it has been done before, since it feels very Dawn of the Planet of the Apes-y, but in this day and age everything has been done before. You can add new elements, but someone will always have done something similar (structurally) before.

I don't think Hobbit is a good comparison because the Hobbit was essentially a rehash of LOTR but failing to hit the magic. TFA was also a rehash, but on the other side of the spectrum it was a good one. This feeling like Dawn of the Planet of the Apes doesn't bother me so much because Azeroth is such a great world in itself, and the lore/characters in Warcraft are so great that this could be even better.

But again, I never base my opinion on trailers alone. It could be a surprise hit and it could be a failure, but we won't know that until we've seen it.

I am not an Avatar fan, but Avatar was one of the all time achievements in sfx in film history. Warcraft looks dated compared to a 7 year old movie and doesn't look like it is bringing anything else to the table.

Yeah theyre probably going to do 75-100 mill in marketing.

Probably needs around 800 mill to break even

Always a stupid move to spend 200 mil on a franchise starter. It's just silly

Avatar looks like a Pixar film

We have seen CGI creations before. We have seen hordes of creatures fighting humans in a fantasy setting. Far more impressive ones. Do you want to compare what we are seeing here to the CGI creations in the Hobbit, Avatar, or new Apes series? Go and watch The Jungle Book.

Being a fan and wanting to see this stuff come to life is fine. But that doesn't change what we are seeing and that we have seen it before, and far better.

What are you talking about? The Hobbit is a novel. LotR is a series of novels from the same author. All that lore, that is what Warcraft ripped off. But that isn't even the point. The presentation isn't good, and it looks not like LotR which had a great practical layer. This looks like the Hobbit because they just CGI'd the hell out of everything, but with a way less quality budget.

Very true. NO ONE saw Fassbender's Steve Jobs or Macbeth movies in the theaters. I know that at least the latter was only in limited release, but still.
