Asian movie star Daniel Wu has a major major appeal in the market, the Warcraft movie can make big bucks simply because of brand recongition + Wu.

I think it's gonna be a worldwide success among all Blizzard players but WoM needs to give it legs.

The aesthetic of WoW is not the same as the aesthetic of Warcraft. They went WoW here.


There is a big difference between moments of spotty CGI, and a film that is mostly CGI that is poor throughout.

It's not just a matter of aesthetics. People need to remember that character, armour, and weapon design in the games are shaped by technical limitations. Even just talking about WOW, you can't have high fidelity graphics in an MMO because of the number of characters and world size. As such, you can't use WOW's graphics to justify the incredibly fake, plasticky textures of the armour and weapons for this film. The prerendered cinematics clearly demonstrate that those objects are intended to have realistic textures and so on. For instance, they show that the human armors are supposed to have a rich highly-polished metallic surface with worn surfaces and scratches (even going back to Warcraft 3). I love Duncan, but he and his team dropped the ball hard with this film.
