Duncan Jones' Warcraft - Part 3

I think honestly the best route would've been a high-end web series or even a streaming TV miniseries and go from there.

Or even a CG movie. I mean look at some of the animation that Blizzard creates in house for these freaking Overwatch shorts.

Animated movie is probably the only way it could be done justice and thats just fine, Blizzards animation is top knotch.

Universal could release a pg-13 animated movie through DreamWorks animation.

So I've finally seen it. The first half was somewhat weaker but I enjoyed the second half a lot, it was much more interesting story and character wise and the script felt much more tight. And I was very surprised how invested in the characters I was despite the weaker first half. And I was more invested into the orc characters than human ones. :woot:

I loved Durotan and Draka (I really hope there will be a sequel with Thrall!). I loved how magic looked and felt. (Dwarves looked great too. :D) I loved the morale choices characters had to make, I was really blown away at the end of the film, shame the first half... I'd repeat myself...

I'd love to see what happens next to these characters! I think the end of film left them in a very interesting spots.

After BvS I don't care about RT :D but this is interesting...

Such a disproportion...

Anyway X-men FC made $353,624,124 with 160m budget and got sequel, while Warcraft made $377,611,525 and counting with the same budget, man I hope they will green-lit the sequel.

The numbers are in...Warcraft is the most successful video game movie.

Well, X-Men wasn't released in China (at least there aren't any numbers for China at BOM) while China is easily the biggest market for Warcraft. So, X-Men was probably more profitable for the studio.

Is it true that Warcraft needs to make 500m to break even???

Who knows. It sounds about right, but there could be other considerations as well.

Fox has to keep making X-Men movies to keep the rights so even a low performing X-Men film wouldn't stop them making more.

The problem Warcraft has is that there seemingly isn't big enough interest in a movie in the U.S market to justify a sequel. I don't see another installment growing the audience.

Nah, the sequel won't happen. If nobody saw the first film, it will be even harder to sell the second one.

I told people we should wait to see how the international BO plays out and people told me 600M+ was all but guaranteed.

Saw it on saturday, never played the game and thought the movie was average at best. Nothing about it was very impressive. The cgi was pretty cartoonish (prolly intentional?) and i felt like the side plots with the guardian and that demon was more interesting than the orc war. Ben foster also seemed miscasted, i found it hard to picture him as a mage.

Warcraft is not like LOTR, it's a lot more tongue in cheek. Hence why everybody had varying accents.

I don't know if there would be much to celebrate given the bar wasn't exactly high, lol.

I still kinda like Mortal Kombat, which was successful for its time.

Yeah, Mortal Kombat is my favorite as well. I don't think it is great, but I grew up with it and it got a lot of things I wanted from the games right.

Though I'd say the best "videogame" based movie to me would be Hardcore Henry.

I think the reason I like Mortal Kombat is that looking back, it was basically like a modern update of Enter the Dragon, and I think that's pretty cool.
