Yep! I went opening night and man do I regret it. Packed theater with people who wouldn't shut up. If I can go back in time I would have waited a week to see it. But I have no will power. :csad: A lot of people couldn't see it because of the fight. It will pick up next weekend.
I had no issues with the audience Thursday, everyone was quiet except when laughing lol oh there was that guy that screamed YES at the mid credit lol :D

What do you mean yep? If the theaters were packed, how did a lot of people stay home? :funny:

My audience was awesome. The theater was packed, but they were incredibly quiet outside of laughing of course. Was great.

I wish I could say the same. There were these 4 FAAATTTT females who wouldn't shut up. One of them had a mustache so think it would make Ron Jeremy blush. But I heard all about their man problems and one who was getting out in 3 months. And the movie attendants didn't want to say anything because I'm sure with them using their welfare card to get in the theaters is a sign that they probably wanted some problems.

Sorry to rant but man was I pissed! :cmad:

I think the percentage will be similar. That is what I mean with IM3. Though unlike IM3, there isn't any great counter programming for AoU until the third weekend. Then you have Pitch Perfect 2 and Mad Max, which is straight up competition.

There's no Mandarin twist to piss people off here though. That'll have an effect.

I agree it was unlikely to beat the first film, but saying there was no chance? I don't agree.

Also while the reaction is overall positive, there seems to be a lot of hate online. Specifically about two things. Also while I found it to be light years ahead of the first film, it doesn't play it nearly as safe an thus it isn't as overall crow pleasing.
I predicted it to open with more than the first and still didn't see it doing as well as the first overall. Sequels to phenomenons don't behave like that.

You mean the sequel to VII. That movie? :woot:

Whatever that movie is. I don't know these SW movies from each other so well since they decided to copy Marvel and do the whole shared universe deal. But whatever that SW film is, it'll have it's work cut out for it to beat GotG2 given how much momentum and heat from good WOM that subfranchise of the MCU has on it at the moment from the first GotG movie.

I agree. I thought it would be more front loaded and would fall somewhere in the low $500m. With the reaction to Widow, it might not clear $500m, but it is way to early to say. We still don't know how much the fight affected it.

:lmao:

You just admitted you don't know what you are talking about. Come on. By the time VIII comes around, there will be two new Star Wars movies. Two with potentially strong female leads, meaning it is playing to all demographics. Men, women, children and the older set.

You could just as easily say the first Avengers or the 2nd or TDK or TDKR were as anticipated as you claim TFA to be. There's no way to qualify this stuff.

The MCU is 'arguably' the most popular fiction franchise on the planet as well, right now. That's the thing, this is all shifting and in a state of movement. Nothing remains static for long. If people think Star Wars is currently more popular than it's ever been before, I'd say somebody with that outlook has been drinking the kool-aide too much. Because these aren't SW's glory days. It has damage control to do from the prequels.

I'm not sure it has that much damage control to do, and this is from someone who thinks the prequels were a war crime. Fanboys are going to see TFA no matter what, and general audiences either liked the prequels or forgot about them. This isn't a franchise-killer situation where the series has to work uphill. I would argue the only points in its lifespan where Star Wars was more popular than it is today were 1977 and 1999. And after TFU comes out, it will start to decline in popularity again. It's the way of things.

TFA. Though this isn't the first time I have seen the TFU mix up. I have done it myself. :O

And? If people were attempting to avoid the big crowds, why would they go on the day with the most people?

They do but I just couldn't wait. Friday was nowhere near as busy as Saturday with everything going on.

I agree Sat wasn't as busy, but that is why Sunday was more busy then usual.

I don't know the minutia of the SW movies release schedule or their strategy beyond the shared universe thing they're doing, but do I really need to? All I need to know is that GotG2 and a SW sequel(to an as yet unreleased film) are going to compete 2 years from now in May, 2017. From there I just look at which has more momentum from recent proven results(i.e. audiences liked or loved the last movie recently and how much juice it gains off of that going into the sequel) and at the present time I'd give GotG2 a large advantage in that race. Now maybe things change if that SW sequel gains some more heat from it's predecessor being well received. Such things are up in the air at present time and I'm not going to guess how the chips will fall for the SW films. We'll see is all I will say about them. I'm neither optimistic nor pessimistic regarding their chances. I'm just on the sidelines on that one as a non-fan and casual observer.

If the movie doesn't go well they may end up calling it TFU anyway. You know what the acronym means.:cwink:

All the more reason to go see it again! :D I know I will

Dude that...............what?!

Next Monday...............you won't hear the end of how this thing made over $100M DOM that weekend. Get ready. :o

Even with competent directors helming the new trilogy, it is perfectly reasonable to assume that a sizeable chunk of the audience is going to take a wait and see approach to SW 7. A billion is a given; 1.5 plus is not.

I could be wrong but it appears your talking to yourself.

Still tho, nothing to sneeze at for Avengers at the moment box office wise

You are. I clearly quoted the living legend Darthskywalker. Dude has kids everywhere, even in North Korea. True Story but he's a bad dad. He'd deny them all. You just watch.
