You left out Darkseid.

Oh no never, I was just talking about villains for the sequel to MOS and I would like to see Darkseid as the villain in the 3rd film.

Darkseid is an absolute MUST for the 3rd film in my opinion, just like Brainiac is a must at some point (preferrably the 2nd film).

Loved Snyders Watchmen. Hated the over the top brutality in the alleyway scene. Didnt care for the ending being changed either but i understand why they had to.

I thought the change at the end actually made the story better. It makes more sense for Veidt to make it as thought Dr M has turned on humanity, seeing as what happened earlier in the story with him abandoning Earth. I don't understand why Moore didn't do it like that, instead of just some completely random squid monster.

I think Watchmen is fantastic. I have a few problems with it, like Veidt being blatantly a bad guy from the first time you see him instead of a golden boy he was supposed to be. And giving the normal heroes borderline super strength seemed to completely miss the point of the characters.

It's not a random squid monster, but an alien monster made by Veidt using genetic engineering (like the Lynx was), and it was to make the world unite against a common foreign threat. In the movie, Dr. Manhattan replaced that alien as the threat, but I don't like this change. It also would not explain why Dr. Manhattan would be okay with Veidt's plan at the end because he'd be forced to exile, instead of doing so voluntarily in the graphic novel. This also removes the scene in the end when Dr. Manhattan uttered that ominous line "It never ends", but the line was given to Silk Spectre instead.

The point is, it was still random. What happened in the movie made more sense with the overall story i think. Dr M has abandoned Earth due to Veidt's manipulations, who is to say he wouldn't attack it? That's the thinking Veidt had. And Dr M didn't stop him because he couldn't see into his future at that point.

I think Dr. Manhattan's reaction against Veidt should've been different in the movie because he was the target of Veidt's manipulation, but the movie kept that part the exactly like the graphic novel even though the circumstances aren't the same. I know some people can't accept the fact that an alien monster as the reason for the world to unite, but I think the way Alan Moore wrote it, it makes sense.

Love this quote.

The Avengers proves that blockbuster filmmaking doesn’t have to be dumbed down to provide popcorn munching escapism. It is also proves that a superhero movie can obtain conviction without resorting to darkening its image.

That's pretty much my entire philosophy. Action movies don't have to be stupid. Superhero movies don't have to be dark.

True story.

I absolutely love this part of that review

All those people who think this is just Transformers with superheroes are dead wrong.

High five!

It annoys me when i see people defending films like Transformers 2 and 3. Saying "It's movies about robots fighting each other! Why do you want or expect good characterisation or story telling?!"

And a certain group of fanatics who shall remain unnamed who think dark = more credible and intelligent. Yea, Whedon is one of the sharpest writers in the game. You won't get overblown, melodramatic, pontificating dialogues from him. Unless he is taking the piss.

Yep, the only thing I defend about Transformers and 3 is how well the action is done but not the movies themselves.

Also, I love a writer who is concise and doesn't have to waste time giving everything a huge explanation.

I love this quote, go Big Three! :applaud
Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth once again prove their mettle as the power trio of Iron Man/ Captain America / Thor.

TDK/Batman benefits from a dark tone which comes naturally. Most other heroes don't.

Of course. Still doesn't excuse the unnatural, melodramatic pontificating dialogue. I swear, if i was at a dinner table and someone starting spouting the nonsense Dent did i'd throw my drink over them and tell them to **** off.

But it seems like MOS will also get a bit darker, if rumors about this movie is true. I for one don't think Superman should be dark like Batman, but I think it is the path that WB is choosing because after the failure of GL, they could be wanting to Nolanize everything related to superheroes.

Btw, are any of you worry about Dark Shadow opening on the same day as The Avengers? I'm a bit concerned about this latest collaboration between Burton and Depp, but the overwhelming positive reactions from people who have seen TA made me believe that DS will be but a speed bump for TA and won't really affect its BO at all.

Dark Shadows opens a week after Avengers. I seriously doubt it will cause any issue for Avengers, but I would bet Avengers causes some problems for Dark Shadows.

Well the lightness of the Donner films wouldn't sit with today's audience, so I don't think making Superman a bit darker is a bad thing.

I don't think it's going to be as dark as Nolan's Batman franchise or anything, just a bit more hardcore than previous Superman films.
