Fant4stic: Reborn! - Part 35

I saw that behind the scenes photo of him in those tattered pants and thought, "yep, it's DC for me!"

Um as you remember I was a defender of FF for a long time and something just clicked after the blogger Doom thing came out. I wasn't feeling the project anymore and then I had to face the fact that the rumors of trouble were true. Like right now at this moment, I'm thinking the film will be badish.

I really didn't start following this film until the Trank stuff. I was curious because Saoirse Ronan and Kate Mara were up for Sue, but I never got too serious, and then the Trank stuff hit. That is started bleeding over to Star Wars scared me half to death. But I knew he was never going to make a Star Wars film after the leaked images of Doom and the first trailer. No way do you turn Doom into a man made of trash, and get to keep your next high profile gig. Plus, the movie looked super cheap.

That was the last time C. Lee's high school asked him to participate on picture day. Though after that he never had trouble convincing people to sign his year book.

Bell's voice coming out of The Thing, unaltered is a firm "no" to me.

Yeah, that has to be one of the more bizzare choices they've made (though right beside actually casting Bell in a role he was so wrong for in the first place).

Production value wise this film looks utterly embarrassing compared to other comicbook films. I like Mara but I like Ronan even more so I'm happier that she didn't get the role.

I do think it's odd to say that you don't care about production values but indeed it is his opinion.

Actually it's pretty simple.
For example for all the people(not that many here I imagine) that were impressed, engaged, enamored with etc Chronicle, they are as such due to things they find important. The production value of the cgi for instance isn't as important as say, it's story or performance etc. I know this because it's production value wasn't that high.
I think it's a pretty easy(and obvious) stance to have on film, hardly 'odd' if you will. People that tend to come down on every little bit of a film are no doubt selective in doing so for speaking personally, many of my favorite live action films, music videos and animation stuff have other priorities.
In this place everything is overblown and zeroed in on.
As for this film's production values, they look standard imo. Not as slick as one of these Snyder/Bay movies but the trailers are selling a big budget movie. I remember people coming down similarly on First Class.

Saoirse Ronan is a fantastic actress. I just don't get why she is never cast for anything. Though this was a great dodge for her. Like Brie Larson and Terminator.

The production values are definitely poor, but so is the cinematography. The movie is just ugly, on all levels.

You have a dude who can stretch, a woman who can create force fields, a man on fire who can fly and a man who looks made of rock. You can't do the cheapy-cheap thing here. This isn't found footage. It sticks out like a sore thumbs. Especially when stuff like this exist:

On First Class, it did have some cheaper elements to it. I think that was down to the rushed production, but there you go. What it never did was look cheap. The cinematography is fantastic, and it has a great sense of humor. None of that is apparent here.

I think Chronicle is a damn fine film but I had a hard time getting over the found footage angle as I hate found footage type films.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, I'm not going to apologize for liking and expecting good production values when it comes to big budget studio films. If others are okay with 100+mil dollar movies looking like ****, congratulations but I am not. I knock points off for that. Forget Snyder or Bay polish, FF isn't as polished as Singer's Days of Future Past either. FF isn't as polished as the ****ing Hellboy movies either and those were not super expensive films.

EDIT: Oh Darth explained it better than I. You can't cheap out on a Fantastic Four movie and expect people to not point it out. And Chronicle did look fine for what it was.

Forget the fantastic, The Substandard Four is the way to go here.

The Last Stand is pretty bad, but at least it didn't look all kinds of ugly. It wasn't the prettiest film, but it met some standards. This is below that.

X3 is bad but watchable. Not sure if we can say the same about this, it's such an ugly looking film.

While X3 is easily my least favorite X-Men team film, I actually do enjoy it. It's not great overall, but there was some good stuff in there (I liked Beast, for example). Nothing I've seen of Fant4stic makes me think it will be as good as X3.

I saw the prop display before the trailer and thought it would be great to see Batman use that in the same way he does in the comics, cartoons and games (been playing Arkham Knight lately). Which made it all the sweeter when it delivered.

Back on topic. Not sure how F4 may stack up to X3. X3 was another entry in a successful franchise. This is a reboot of a series of movies that never got much traction in the first place. The GA weren't asking for it and it's bogged down by negative buzz. Depends how word of mouth goes with GA, I guess. I would maybe say X3 over this, but by how much I couldn't say.

I doubt that. That is, in my opinion, probably the lowest point for superhero movies in recent years, I'd rather watch Green Lantern than see that turd again.

Origins at least made me unintentionally laugh pretty hard a few times. I wonder if this film will do the same.

... I actually think this looks worse than Origins. At least Origins had Jackman. Those two minutes of Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson were actually good, too (not counting Barakapool, obviously).

If this had been the very first trailer they had released, it wouldn't have been bad. "OKay, the effects shots are a little shaky, but they haven't had time to clean them up yet. I'm sure they'll look better as they go . . . and I'm sure they'll put some pants on the Thing. . . and maybe give us a sense of the story instead of slapping a bunch of disjointed pieces together."

But comparing this, the final FF trailer, to BVS as a trailer for a film 8 or 9 months out, it's just plain embarrassing. The BVS trailer gives you a sense for what the story will be - and it's a damn intriguing one. The BVS trailer provides visuals that are powerful and appear appropriate for the story. The BVS trailer shows special and practical effects shots that aren't distracting because of their low quality.

I've sat through two embarrassing FF films already. I remember during the dance scene in ROTSS a feeling of utter embarrassment and bizarre paranoia sweeping over me: "Can anyone here sense I'm an FF fan? Should I stand up and forcefully disavow them? I don't condone this in any form. Do I need to make that clear?"

I'm not going to go through that experience again. It's clear from everything we've seen that this film is sub-standard, and I'm going to state clearly here, for anybody who might be in the theater on opening weekend looking for an FF fan to laugh at: "I am an FF fan, but I don't condone this film. I won't be in the theater, so that guy wearing the FF shirt that you'll be laughing at won't be me."

So you didn't read my post then?
The one attempting to explain said posters opinion and how it's viable?
Simply put, we don't all look for the same things first and foremost. The revelation of such thought shouldn't be 'odd' for we don't all prioritize what we look for in art the same way.Dude who priorities character may not enjoy the raid movies as much as someone who does action...
Again his post was clear and I find easy to understand. Then again I imagine he was speaking for himself, so it's even easier. I can see this is already leading into generalization and 'supposed to' land, a place I sadly cannot follow.
