Fast & Furious 7 - Part 1

Where does Dragon say that the production was permanently shut down?

Fast 7 already was on a tight schedule to meet its July 11 release date, which now likely will also shift. On Dec. 2, after two days of meetings that included NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke in Los Angeles, sources tell THR, the studio notified cast and crew that production would be on hold indefinitely.
On Wednesday morning, Universal released a statement confirming THR's report:
“Right now, all of us at Universal are dedicated to providing support to Paul's immediate family and our extended Fast & Furious family of cast, crew and filmmakers. At this time we feel it is our responsibility to shut down production on Fast & Furious 7 for a period of time so we can assess all options available to move forward with the franchise. We are committed to keeping Fast & Furious fans informed, and we will provide further information to them when we have it. Until then, we know they join us in mourning the passing of our dear friend Paul Walker."
Walker was reprising his role as Brian O'Conner; sources say he made $8.5 million for Fast 6 and between $9 million and $13 million for Fast 7; he also had backend participation. Sources say that Fast 7's production was organized to film the more conversational elements of the movie first and the action sequences later in order to ease director James Wan (who is taking over the franchise from Justin Lin) into the big-budget filmmaking process. In January, Walker and the rest of the Fast 7 team were scheduled to travel to Abu Dhabi to film additional scenes, including a major action sequence that was set to open the film.

Yea production has been halted production indefintely. So that means that there will be rewrites and reshoots but for now they are giving the cast and crew and Paul's family time to mourn and recoup which is understandable.

The way they were filming it would require less reworking to finish it (stunt doubles and CG masking can cover most of the action sequences). Where they go from there is not something anyone can determine yet. It's still too fresh in everyone's minds to decide on doing another movie or the spinoff series.

I really hope they can finish this movie untouched if that's even remotely possible. It would be a great way to have the last one that Paul Walker was in finish on a high. This would be his ultimate tribute in a sense. Now if they reshoot the whole thing, it sort of makes all this effort and the fact they rushed it useless. I'm starting to get the feeling the should have waited and kept Justin Lin on board and take their time to do this one. Hindsight is a wonderful thing though.

Death can happen to anyone at anytime though. Walker's accident wasn't even movie related. So waiting a year wouldn't have guaranteed anything.

They already had the story outline in place for FF7. FF6 and FF7 were originally going to be shot back to back. Lin was ready to move on though.

I wouldn't want to be James Wan now. Imagine the pressure.

Agreed! He tweeted only once since the accident. Really unlucky to have all of this on his shoulders, continuing off the huge success that Justin Lin brought and then this happens.

Very touching tribute video posted on the official Fast & Furious Facebook page as well as Paul's FB page. Beautifully done Universal!

I hope they don't redo the movie if possible. I really hope we get to see Walkers performance.

I think it would be a bigger disservice to throw his footage in the trash than to give him a respectable send off.

Agreed. It's hard enough going in knowing this was his last performance in this franchise.

It's just morbid to think that the guy burned to death after crashing violently into a pole.

I'll never look at Hans death the same way again either

Agreed! Who's this Hans you're referring to?

PS: Everyone please take a minute to watch the video i shared above that the Fast & Furious team released. It's the best tribute and so beautiful. I have a feeling that could be a great piece to put after the ending. Maybe mid credits or before.

I don't want them starting over at all. I want to see Brian in this. I want a proper a send-off. I don't want some explanation that he wanted to get away from it all and doesn't feel the need to avenge Han.

Beautiful tribute video. I really can't believe how hard I've felt his death. Just been bummed out since last Saturday.
