FF 2 Rate and Review Thread

I know a review should be in a another thread but I wanted to apologies to Tim Story :-)
I've said that he doesn't get it, well I want to apologies becuase after seeing the movie I think he does :-)
I enjoyed the movie very much.
...................
"The Good"
The thing much improved looked rockier and bigger, hands the right size, slightly bigger brow balanced out his face. rocks more defined.
I realy liked him a lot this time around.
Alba's acting much improved she showed some heart in this flix.
Reeds lab,
the fantastic car,
the whole over all look of the movie was better.
The Surfer Rocked!
I just loved him, what a tribute to Jack Kirby and another artist I don't credit enough John Buesema.
When the surfer lost his shine you could see his features and he was wonderfull.
I looked at him and could see John's rendering of the Surfer as plain as day.
Good job Jones and weta.
.............
"The bad"
Galactus as a no show but hey! I have hope for a surfer movie with the Big G in it. The cloud was cool with the feel of impending doom but a kittle more back story would have been cool.
the short battle scene with Johnny and Doom, should have been longer, it was cool to watch and i wanted more.
.............
"The ugly"
Reeds dancing ech!!! the special effects sucked I think I know what would help but I'll save that for another time.
Sue's wig at times.
............
I started this post with an apology to Story because I think he did listen to the fans and made impovments as best he could and you have to give him credit for that.
And he made a much improved movie do I want it bigger and better next time? sure! but hey I'm spoiled ha ha
I can't wait to see the extended edition, a little longer run time and a couple of more scenes will flesh out what was a fun movie with things for the young, old and purist like myself.
Peace all!

I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!!!!

After being dissapointed with spiderman 3, this got me in a good mood. This was better than spiderman 3!!!

I don't want to compare movies, but i feel I need to to explain myself. Where Spiderman 3 failed for me was the useless akward humor that in my opinion wans't very funny. For some reason I feel that Fantastic Four is able to get away with it. I can accept Fantastic Four's humor cause quite frankly Tim Sory understands comedy whereas Sam Raimi choses to use comedy that takes people like Peter Parker out of character. That's what it comes down to. Fanastic Four is able to use humor with the characters staying in character and its quite enjoyable and fun. Spiderman however I felt made it very uncomfortable and akward where it should have been serious.

FF:ROSS had all the funny scenes when it need to be. it had all the action scenes when it needed to be. It had all the serious dramatic scenes when it needed to be. Nothing was mixed or felt unsure of itself. It knew it's ground and how the story was supposed to be told.

I agree with everything positive that has already been said about Doom. It vast improvment over the first film and i think because of this first movie Doom was neccessary in order this character development to happen. However I do wish he had more dialog and screentime because there was so much more that could have been done given with the things they did right.

Again with Galactus, given the context with this film I really don't see how else a humanoid form would work. What we got was decent and suprisingly true to Galactus. We weren't given any less or more of him. Infact they leave alot open for us to interpret so it's not like they denied us from thinking there actually is a humanoid being inside the cosmic cloud.

I'd also like to state the scene wher Silver surfer confronts Galactus my god :wow: . what else can I say? From the time I read "Marvels" by Busiek and Ross all i could think of is how epic that scene would play out. While it's not exactly how i pictured (minus the Giant G) the mood was exactly how i imagined it. that had to be the most epic moment that was rightfully done in terms of drama and mood.

I have other thoughts, but most have been stated already.

8.5 out of 10

Saw the film earlier in the evening.

Is Rise an improvement over the first film? Absolutely. Does that really say much at all? Nope.

It's a shallow movie, albeit, a very entertaining shallow movie. Chris Evans remains the highlight of this franchise with his Johnny Storm instantly shooting up the ranks of "perfectly cast Marvel characters". Jessica Alba, on the other hand, now takes the crown of "perfectly miscast Marvel characters". Even ignoring her ghastly overdone makeup job, she just does absolutely little with the Sue Storm character, and because of this, brings down the film around her.

The Surfer was a disappointment from a story standpoint. We learn little about him, his motivations, or who he actually is. The effects work on him were rock solid, and the voice worked, but there really wasn't a whole lot to the guy.

Galactus? Some intensely amazing visual effects work, but still. The hell was that idea all about? And then to allow the Surfer to kill him at the end? That easily? Galactus? Dead? Wha???

The film tried desperately to add some depth with the whole "woe is me, I'm a hero" angle, but it was brushed over way too lightly. And you really can't even attempt to go that route in the wake of Spider-Man 2, which touched on that story element masterfully. Using the Four as a symbol for the trials and tribulation of celebrity could have worked as a theme for the film, but alas.

At the end of the day, this film didn't raise the Fantastic Four franchise out of its state of mediocrity, but I did find it to be a fun and funny waste of 90 minutes. And, to be honest, I'd rather watch this back-to-back then sit through At World's End anyday of the week. Light and fluffy, but lacking a real, tangible core.

An Average superhero flick.

I saw this evening and enjoyed it :)
I need to get me a freaking fantasticar!!!!
I know quite a few people were disapointed about
Galactus being some sort of Cloud.
The geek in me thought it made Galactus more underwhelming, but
the casual movie goer in me enjoyed every second of the film. I'd say its as good as the first film, no better or worse. I hope there's a 3 & (4) on the way ;)

I work at a movie theatre and I got to watch it before clocking in. My opinion? I thought it was very good and a very fun film. My disappointments lie with the lack of Doom, no development of Silver Surfer, lack of development for Ben, and of course Galactus being a cloud is something that I wish hadn't happened.

Needless to say a lot of the flaws come from lack of development. This is why Fox needs to stay out of the creative process and allow the directors to mold the story and so forth.

Had this film been an extra 10 or 20 minutes longer? It would've been amazing as it would've allowed time for Surfer flashback scenes, Galactus destroying planets, longer Doom screentime, and could've shown more scenes between Johnny and Thing as they ponder their future.

I also wanted to see a much more emotional reaction from Johnny after
Susan dies in Reeds arms.
. I have to admit that when that happens I did choke up a bit and choked up even more when
Surfer revived her and proceeded to fly into the cloud of Galactus
.

Hopefully there's an extended cut of this film, because it's definitely miles ahead of the first film and is somewhat darker, more emotional, and has an epic scope to it that lacked in the first film. As a whole I really enjoyed the movie and hope the Surfer solo film is greenlighted.

You and cmill just hit on the worst part of the movie...it opens so many doors, but doesn't really go through any of them. It even resorts to Deus Ex Machina at times to fix things at the expense of the plot. Some people will say "Its just a popcorn flick, it doesn't have to be perfect". I would say its just lazy film making.

This movie was much better than the first movie and I'm glad to see they improved on some of the huge error's they've made from the first movie.

That being said I found this to be too much clowing around (not campy) but not enough action , their could've been a lot more . And the effect for Mr. Fantastic were still bad . and my biggest problem was the awful portrayal of Galactus as a freaking Cloud .

Other than that I enjoyed this movie .

so I give it an 8/10

Marvel movies of 2007

1. SPIDER-MAN 3 - 10/10

2. FANTASTIC FOUR: Rise of the Silver Surfer - 8/10

3. Ghost Rider . -5/10

I'll never understand that "It's just a comic book movie, lighten up" argument. You can have all the fun and explosions in the world in a comic book flick and still have time for proper character development and depth-filled subtext. Sam Raimi, Christopher Nolan, Brian Singer, and Tim Burton all managed to do it with films in their respective franchises so why shouldn't Tim Story and the Fantastic Four be held to such standards?

This is Marvel's first family. Dr. Doom is the face of Marvel's vast Rogue's Gallery. But mediocrity is acceptable?

I actually thought the cloud to be one of the best aspects. It is better than some cheesy, giant robot flying down and going "Buahah, I'm going to eat you now". 616 Galactus just wouldn't work on film. The cloud expressed the sense of dread and forebrooding that comes with Galactus though. It is actually the one villian in the entire series who creates a sense of fear and comes off as menacing. My problem is how they used it. If it is so easy for Surfer to destroy...why not just do that in the beginning?

No, it's not! The burping was probably the most evident form of juvenile humor in the movie. Applying it to the rest of the film is an injustice!:cmad:

"She's gonna kick you in the balls" "I can do the dance Carlton did on Fresh Prince!" "Perverted inneundo that not even Schneider would use number 3"

Oh yeah, doesn't apply to the rest of the movie at all :whatever:

Quite frankly, its a cop-out fanboys use because they don't have a better defense for mediocrity.

this is a apolagy thread ha ha
Poor Tim Story. I think he has done a B+ job and doesn't deserve all the hate he gets. These are movies, not comics and some people just don't realize they won't get a movie that is exactly like all the comics. There has to be deviations from the source material because lets face it...the comics although good...had a lot of corny, cheesy moments I never want to see on screen. Plus with so much canon, so many different story lines, characters, etc...you can't just pick one story line or there would innevitably be 100+ movies.

I understand what you mean Matt. The concepts are great, it's just they never really capitalize on the concepts. For example,
it would've been nice to see Surfer show Susan what it was like on his planet and the woman he spoke of.

And I'm tired of studios playing it safe with violence. Show Silver Surfer being tortured, show his pain, and show how strong he is as he's still refusing to divulge any information to his captors. It would've added some unique development to the already awesome character.

Doom falling into water? That's it? He had a badass moment when he had the Surfer's board and was destroying everything in sight. Then Johnny easily defeats him? So much for the full DOOM that Story promised.

When Susan dies I would've more than likely either left her dead or possibly brought her back at the end of the film. Maybe have Galactus show up as Surfer is about to revive her and have a big battle with Surfer, Thing, and Johnny trying to take him out while Reed is with Susan.

I wanted Johnny to actually say something a bit more smart assed to Doom.

Something along the lines of
"Nobody messes with my sister but me."
Sure, it's corny, but it's something Johnny would say and it would show him actually growing up into a more mature being, while still maintaining his cockiness at the same time.

For this film I was hoping for some Surfer flashback scenes, more Doom scenes at Latveria possibly showing him create Doombots, and a full revelation of Galactus.

But, then the FF wouldn't be as fun...

"She's gonna kick you in the balls" "I can do the dance Carlton did on Fresh Prince!" "Perverted inneundo that not even Schneider would use number 3"

Actually, I think the exact quote was "invisible kick in the nuts" and I don't any of those other quotes are applicable, and instead derive purely from your own intrepretation.

Agree with LastSunrise...the movie was really good but of course could have been great like every other movie. But please dear God no Doombots EVER.

im sorry too . tim story did a bette rjob than i ever could have expected

This is the only continuity issue I did not get...how did Reed's casual shirts and pants stretch with him?

Because saying someone is going to get kicked in the nuts is suddenly the high point of comedy.

I never said it was, but it was not as horribly damning to the film as you want to imply...

The burp joke was worse, but it STILL didn't affect the overall quality of the film.

Quality? The Fantastic Car has a 'Dodge' logo with a Hemi.

This is the only continuity issue I did not get...how did Reed's casual shirts and pants stretch with him?

[Tim Story]....umm....ummm.....*thinks what would George do*....THE POWER OF THE FORCE!!!.....LOOK OVER THERE! *runs away*[/Tim Story]

You know what sort of bothered me? How did the powers Johnny took, when he took all three know who to go back to magically? In sticking with the rules the movie set up...shouldn't Ben (the first person he touched) get all the powers since Johnny had all of them? And why didn't they all inheirit Johnny's fire power when he took them?
