FF 2 Rate and Review Thread

I never said it was, but it was not as horribly damning to the film as you want to imply...

The burp joke was worse, but it STILL didn't affect the overall quality of the film.

Yes, it did. If bad dialogue, humor, etc does not effect the quality of a film, what does?

The level of fun and excitement?

Being a huge Fantastic 4 fan, I went into this movie with big hopes. I enjoyed the first one (sorry to those who disagree) so I knew I'd like this one.

DISLIKES
-Reed's dancing scene....I was just not a fan of the special effects in this scene.
...and thats it lol

LIKES
-The movie in general
-Dr. Doom's costume...If you could only have seen my face when I saw the new Doom costume, I was VERY excited. I was a fan of the first one, but this one was GREAT
-Silver Surfer kicked massive amounts of ass.
-Galactus, though not a tall man, was still pretty cool, and I, like most say, did see him inside the cloud at the end.

NOT TOO SURE
-Not too sure how I feel about Silver Surfer's ability to become a Teletubbie....but he kicked ass, so who cares?

All in all 8.5-9/10

(also, can someone tell me how to add an Avatar???)

Quality? The Fantastic Car has a 'Dodge' logo with a Hemi.

I have to admit, there was quite a bit of ad-placement in this movie. I remember Cmill saying you can't really do the reluctant hero plot after S-M2 did it so well. At the same time, you really can't do self-aware ad-placement as this movie tried after Taladega Nights did it so well :cwink:

[Tim Story]....umm....ummm.....*thinks what would George do*....THE POWER OF THE FORCE!!!.....LOOK OVER THERE! *runs away*[/Tim Story]

You know what sort of bothered me? How did the powers Johnny took, when he took all three know who to go back to magically? In sticking with the rules the movie set up...shouldn't Ben (the first person he touched) get all the powers since Johnny had all of them? And why didn't they all inheirit Johnny's fire power when he took them?

They didn't go back naturally, if you watch when he runs back to where they all are, he touches each of the....

Horrendous film that has all the right ideas/themes/storyline but lacks any kind of logical execution. And the sad thing is, the action sequences are way more inventive than anything in Spider-Man 3.

Across the board, besides the Surfer, this film gets it wrong and its even more frustrating because using the four as a comment on celebrity was a pretty damn good idea. Had they developed the life of the four for a good, solid 30 minutes before the Surfer showed up, I would've gone along with this film, without question.

As it stands, it's marginally better than the theatrical cut of the first film. The visual effects are all over the place, besides the Surfer. The tone is all wrong once we know that a Man-God is on its way to destroy our beloved planet. I'm not asking for Batman/X-Men dark. I'm asking for a little bit of seriousness with the idea of an entity coming to destroy our world and our heroes coming to grips with that. It's essentially told and somewhat brushed aside.

And please, can we get some people who can write true dialogue? The only terrible aspect of the Surfer was the words he had to spew. I mean, just plain horrendous.

And the inclusion of Doom was a great idea but again, his character is terribly mishandled. I mean, he's just plain bad in this film.

I'm curious of what this film would've been like had it been 25 minutes longer, because you can feel the cuts in this thing. I'm sure Fox will be accommodating and about 6 months to a year after this film debuts on DVD, they'll release an extended cut.

Out of four stars, it gets one and a half from this viewer.

Hello all, just saw the movie tonight and enjoyed it.I went in hoping to see a full app of GALACTUS,but common since told me they would save it for the surfer movie. Its amazing to me the surfer was the main draw for a lot of casual movie goers based just off of trailers.I was wondering why they even bothered pretending that any of them would actually fight galactus(considering he would wipe the floor with all of them)so i guess the quick resolve of his threat was dissapointing but unavoidable.Im sure that will come to pass in a SURFER movie.I enjoy the stuck up persona of DOOM,but he just seems to fall flat when ever he goes into his full DOOM guise.I hope they leave him out of the next FF movie if this is all thay plan to use him for.Well im looking forward to the next installment(BUT MORE TOWARDS AN SILVER SUFER MOVIE NOW).

LET ME MAKE THIS VERY CLEAR......By quoting this guy....YOU ARE NOT HELPING THE SITUATION....you are prolonging it.....

Ok.....back to the discussion....

Didn't someone say very early on that we would only see a glimpse of Galactus in the film, and that we really get to see him in one of the sequels or spin-offs?

They didn't go back naturally, if you watch when he runs back to where they all are, he touches each of the....

No, I get that. I mean that the powers knew who to return to. It just seems odd. Shouldn't they have all gotten the mixture of the powers?

i didn't hate it.
laughed out loud several times too which felt nice. it isn't a stuffy head strong flick, it's light. i still kept thinking of the incredibles throughout the feature cuz brad bird just nailed it, but i digress...
this is once again marvel taking a property with all it's reference material and throwing it into the wind. ya ya you could blame the studio but at the end of the day it's marvel. this is somewhat fantastic four in name only but it's also entertaining so i'm forgiving some stuff cuz again i did laugh out loud, that means something was there.
the spfx on reed were awful, thing looked worse than he did in the 1st film and that's tough to do i thought. sue looks fake-blue eyes , bleached skin and hair which looked like a horses tail but the surfer looked awesome. in fact, this is norin's movie and i'd LOVE to see him on his own. fishburne doing the voice was cool too.
both doom & galactus gets the shaft, or is that me cuz i keep seeing marvel toasting their characters?
meh.

lol

If it's done right the humor with the product placement is actually funny, example Johnny with the suit with the company logos on it, but the Dodge thing on the Fantastic Car was too much and out of sync with who Reed is. If Johnny took the FCar without Reed knowing then added the Dodge sponsorship it would have went over smoother with me, but in any effect the movie was 'product' from the start so it's typical FOX.

Yeah, the new uniform thing was funny...but it did seem the Dodge was overkill.

Great film. It was too short and rushed things a bit, but overall it was great. Some people are complaining about Johnny winning the fight at the end practically by himself, but if you really analyze the events of the film up to that point Johnny couldn't have done it without the other three. And besides, one of the major themes of the film was Johnny realizing that being a hero isn't about the sponsors or the women, it's about being heroic.

Man..imagine a Brad Bird FF :yay: jeez why do doesn't a guy like that get handed the Fantastic Four?

It makes me wanna scream that a freaking Pixar movie can do a FF knock-off better than the real thing.:cmad:

Just got back, from the movie. I'll be saving my review for the private review thread, so keep an eye, but here's a few random musings.

Definitely better than the first movie, and I liked the first movie.

The runtime is not a problem.

You have to be a super duper fanboy to be dissapointed by Galactus.

The Surfer was awesome, just freakin awesome! Spot on, 100%

I thought it was one of the best scenes in the entire film! I loved how Sue and Johnny's brother/sister relationship was further developed. It was pretty convincing imo. I was so proud of Chris' acting skills:D:up: And I loved Alba even more in this one:heart:

btw: hey Albafan!:)

Hey sweety.......:cwink:

I can't believe I'm going to type this.....

I’d have to classify FF: ROTSS as a disappointment. I’ve always been able to contain my inner Marvel fanboy and judge a film on its own merits, separate from its comic continuity. I guess it was too hard to do in this case. I love the Silver Surfer and the FF but this film really didn’t do them the kind of justice. Doom was again a cartoonish villain and there was really no set up to any of the characters. Some things worked well but I left the theatre with the feeling that the makers of this movie missed the opportunity to deliver greatness. I’m going to digest it some more before giving a full review. Right now I’m having trouble rating it above a 6/10. Maybe a second viewing without such high expectations will help.

Because that was not in the script....

sheeeeesh.....:cwink:

Saw it earlier. Loved it. My rating is still Average, instead of above average, though. Alba was just weird looking, and her performance was dreadful. But everyone else was fantastic.

7/10

I just felt like i had to repost this specific comment i made to get some recognition:

I'd also like to state the scene wher Silver surfer confronts Galactus my god :wow: . what else can I say? From the time I read "Marvels" by Busiek and Ross all i could think of is how epic that scene would play out. While it's not exactly how i pictured (minus the Giant G) the mood was exactly how i imagined it. that had to be the most epic moment that was rightfully done in terms of drama and mood.
