Future TV shows from Marvel?

So, Lester Speight as Luke Cage. Who agrees?

The only way a Marvel project comes to fruition and it's not connected to MCU is if its animated, like Big Hero 6.

Why wouldn't they be? That's been Marvel's MO for a while now. There's no reason to think they won't be, and honestly it'd make no sense for them not to be. The whole "shared universe" concept has driven a lot of interest toward Marvel's output
I get the feeling they won't be.

the names for Luke Cage would probably include Taye Diggs, Boris Kodjoe, Morris Chestnut and (my pick) Chadwick Boseman

I think this is a good idea for Marvel to partner with Netflix for these new shows. Network shows are always risky since rating is king, and shows can be cancelled if theirs aren't high enough. If Marvel can make these shows a hit on Netflix, like Netflix has done with their own shows such as Orange is the new black, then I can see a future where Marvel would bring them to the big screen, probably after Phase III. As a Netflix subscriber, I'm pretty psyched about this news.

Is anyone surprised that Luke Cage is joining the MCU before Black Panther?

Not really. He's one of the most popular TV-friendly heroes

Me neither. Besides, it's going to cost a lot of money in trying to turn South Africa into Wakanda, which could cause problems itself.

There's absolutely no reason to suspect that these won't be connected to the MCU. Especially since the shared universe aspect is half of the fun.

Yeah, exactly. They know the fans are eating up the shared universe concept and they're about to dump a whole bunch of money into TV shows for some C-list characters. I don't know why anyone would think they'd, all of a sudden, start moving away from the business model that's been so enormously successful for them

Based on what?

Literally all we've got to go off is the announcement
I feel if they were planning on being connected they would have said so in that press release. Also, it just strikes me that they may be inclined to make this separate so as to not step on any future plans the movies might ever have for the characters down the road. These are big characters, not OCs like AOS.

Disney confirmed that there is one more show Marvel is developing for ABC to go along with AOS.

I have no doubt it's Agent Carter.

There's nothing to suspect they will be either other than that AOS is connected to the MCU. I was just wondering if they weren't would people be disappointed. It doesn't really make a difference to me because I think these will be very isolated from the movies either way.

If they introduce Jen Walters or Misty Knight, they will connect to MCU.

Or (if he's up for it) Bruce Banner can appear in between Avengers movies.

Boseman isn't hammy enough and he's also too lean. We need somebody who's big and imposing. Taye Digs is a good choice though. It just sucks that Terry Crews already said a few months ago that he doesn't want the role.

So are these shows in 2015 or 16? Just saw a quote from bob iger that makes it sound like they're coming in 2016

'Heroes for Hire' is a horrible team name for a group of "self sacrificing heroes" and "Marvel Knights" is just a bad team name narratively. Can you imagine Luke Cage saying "We're the Marvel Knights?" or even "We're the Knights?" EWWWWW!!! I'm literally cringing over here.

The classic Defenders team not only is not possible, but fulfills the same role as Avengers already does in the MCU. Like you said, a big screen Defenders would be an extra team, which, unless Marvel screws up big time, will never be needed, so there's no reason to strive for it in this context. Much better to go the Ultimate route or the modern Defenders route and mix up the team to create something that is wholly distinct in scope and mission from the Avengers.

Don't forget that they can't use half the classic Defenders: Fox currently still has Silver Surfer, and Universal inexplicably has Namor. This pretty much makes the Defenders a non-starter, even if you wanted to try.

So, stealing the name to use for the street level hero team up? Works fine for me.

Yo, what if Murdock prosecutes Carl Lucas! Twist! Drama! Conflict!

Ugh, you remind me of one of my biggest fears for a new Daredevil: the portrayal of his law practice. I'm not a stickler for realism here. . . but please, please, at least be as surface-plausible as Law & Order. None of this "Is he a defense attorney? A civil attorney? Is this a criminal trial? A sentencing hearing? A civil trial? We can't tell!"

Marvel need to cut a deal with Sony to use Kingpin. They can't have a whole DD series and never have him feature.

This, I am fairly certain can be done. Sony has relatively good relations with Marvel/Disney, and certainly wouldn't want to hurt their own position by spiteful behavior. Assuming it hasn't already been handled one way or another: I strongly doubt Marvel would green light a Daredevil project if they couldn't use his archnemesis.

Also, I don't think Webb has any plans on using Kingpin.

Just heard the news, and did a happy dance. Can't wait for all of 'em!

I really hope Luke Cage and Iron Fist merge into Heroes for Hire, though. Seems like a wasted opportunity if they don't, imo.

I said in the other thread that based on how Marvel has already called SHIELD "Agents of SHIELD" and The Avengers "Avengers Assemble" in the UK, it's quite likely they aren't going to even keep it simply as "Marvel's The Defenders." There's that long-running 60s legal TV series and its recent remake called "The Defenders". Audiences might think it's just a new version if they see the name and Marvel will want to set themselves apart.

But it's unlikely it will be just "Marvel's The Defenders" otherwise they could've done that with the other two, calling it "Marvel's SHIELD" or "Marvel's The Avengers". They didn't however. And thus we ended up with long-winded names that don't sound so great.

I mentioned earlier that they need proper legal writers or advisers on this show. In the Fox DD movie, Matt Murdock made some of the most basic mistakes that someone just having entered law school would've made, and he's meant to be an experienced lawyer. And what's more, the judge let him get away with that. It seemed like it was written by someone who didn't know any law at all and came across as completely amateurish. It was like someone had watched a few legal dramas and tried to mimic it, but didn't know what any of it really meant and when certain things should be done and not done.

It will come across as complete crap if it isn't on the same level as Law & Order or any other legal drama. It will be like Agents of SHIELD seeming amateurish when they're doing their investigating etc compared to other procedurals where the characters seem far more professional.

I am so stoked about this. My big worry though is that since they seem to be focusing more on the street level aspects of the characters, we won't be getting a Seven Capitol Cities storylines in Iron Fist. I think that story would have been amazing in film.
