Sequels "Gambit" starring Channing Tatum? - Part 2

^ agreed, they touched on this in the Wolverine III subforum. Story > Cameos/Fan requests.

With Gambit I feel there could be a fracture between his origin story and the X-Men world, so I wonder how they'd bring him in. For example, Deadpool did it in a random, fun CB way (he caught their eye misbehaving on TV), but it was perfect for the tone of the movie. I feel Gambit's story is darker, so I wonder how they'll tell it and how it'd cohere with the franchise.

Rogue does make sense and, if she's written into the story purposefully, then that's great. People have been waiting to see those two trying hard not to get along with each other on screen for a while now. And Wolverine has a conflicting chemistry with him too, so for me, those two would do. But whatever they have under wraps would be great, I'm excited for all the French cast they mean to use.

By the by, there's an episode of TAS where the X-Men meet Nightcrawler while on vacation: it's a very disparate world (snowy mountains in a German village, full of Catholicism and very outdated you could say), but it fits into the series pretty well because of the X-team (Wolverine, Gambit, Rogue), whom decide to lend Nightcrawler a hand. Would it have to be any more complicated than that? How about Paquin, Jackman and Alan Cumming ftw? (Just a stray thought, pay no mind!)

Rogue appearing in this is such a no-brainer to me that I am baffled and annoyed that Anna Paquin hasn't been cast yet.

the thing is they announced a list of French roles including Belladonna and, as someone here pointed out, Fox seemed to want to establish that relationship before pulling rogue in.

I personally don't know because, if you take the history of Pyslocke's trans-raciality, that's a key storyline to explore for series about diversity and discrimination. However, everyone thought that was inconsequential. So I don't really see why any other character's history should be told in such detail. They could well bring Rogue in if it fit the scrit.

It's not a no-brainer at all. Rogue has no part in Gambit's origin story. He doesn't know she exists until AFTER he meets Storm and she introduces him to the X-men. I understand that they don't have to follow comic canon to a tee, but since Bella is obviously going to be his love interest in the film Rogue doesn't really fit in at all. I see no point. This is about his life before the X-men.

I think they can follow his backstory with Donna and the thieves etc still. My idea for including Rogue could be that Professor X sends her to find a mutant he has been following. Very similar to how Storm and Jean went looking for Nightcrawler or how Yukio followed Logan. I can see her following him and then when he needs help getting involved in the fray. And they can start to show their back and forth with each other that way after she saves him. And it can end with her bringing him back to the X-Men.

Putting the horrible Anna Paquin Rogue in this film would be an immediate turn off to me. If they are going to include Rogue, she needs to be re-worked completely from the ground up.

I think that's very unlikely. Knowing movie studios, they are gonna want to leave this open for sequels. Having Rogue appear and becoming an X-man closes that door, or at least makes reopening it very awkward. Anyhow, why would Xavier send Rogue and not Storm or any other mutant?

Honestly. I know people love Romy, but that doesn't mean that we have to shoehorn one into anything that the other is in.

You jealous of Sookie or somethin'? :P

DOFP is a good enough excuse to introduce an already-reworked, adult Rogue and Paquin would probably nail it. She's held on to the franchise this long, it's only fair we get to see two things from her: (1) Rogue kicking ass (2) Rogue's romance with Gambit.

I agree they wouldn't be making gambit for a one off movie they would be making it hoping for at least 3 solo movies, plus they ain't gonna have rogue with gambit in every movie so if she was in the first then chances are she won't be there in the sequels.

It's a no-brainer to include an X-Men presence the way Deadpool did. Considering the options, it's also a no-brainer to put Rogue with Gambit.

Rogue is only a no-brainer is there is actually something for her to do in the story they are telling aka origin story, otherwise add her just for a cameo? course then they are gonna wanna do gambit 2 and 3 after.

It doesn't matter what story they pick, Rogue would be a great foil. It's not hard to give her something to do that ties her into whatever Gambit is up to. The characters have fun history, she deserves a better shot herself and the pair on screen together has been requested for years. Fox should just make it happen already in my opinion. In some cases, 'what fans want' and 'what makes a fun film' are the same thing. It feels like Fox don't want us to feel that way at times.

Got to agree with you there. Sometimes it feels like they are actively looking for ways to piss fans off.

They could easily do more Gambit films just like they've done Wolverine films of him outside the X-Men. Having Rogue in this and him joining X-Men doesn't mean there can't be sequel options. It's just fan hope at this point. It's super doubtful they're even gonna include her. I said they should be smart and do Gambit and Rogue similar to Marvel doing Ant-Man and Wasp. There's enough story there for Gambit and Rogue solo movie series.

Same question why would Xavier send Storm or any other mutant too. It would be a mission just like he's sent out other X-Men to recruit other mutants it's no different who. But at least Rogue would fit story wise and they're both southerners so that would be awesome too.

Its pretty half baked to do it like that though, esp if gambit 2 would follow the first gambit movie and inbetween that he joins the X-Men but you just don't see that stuff

To be fair have we ever actually seen them go out to recruit anyone? i know this everytime there is a new movie people talk about the X-Men recruiting characters but isn't it more recruiting kids for the school?

I think the recruiting stuff is very much a excuse trope, like Mr Sinister cloning the dead characters as a way to bring them back.

But at least Rogue would fit story wise and they're both southerners so that would be awesome too.

Only if she has a purpose in the story will she fit in the story, if they want to tell gambits origin story is a personal degree with all the characters related to his story... then she may not fit

The only time really was Jean and Storm going to find Nightcrawler and similar again Mystique finding Nightctawler and bringing him to the mansion. Even though that wasn't her original plan anyway. If they write it well it can fit and make sense. That's all that needs to be done. A solid script. People want to see Gambit with the X-Men. I know he's always an X-Men character but honestly he can be like a Ant Man or Doctor Strange. Have solo movies and then also join the X-Men. Nothing is stopping that from being the case. They're not gonna make 3 Gambit movies and never have him join or interact with at least X-Men or X-Force. They can do solos and joint movies just as Marvel do and most likely what they'll do with Deadpool too. Sure maybe Rogue won't fit in this first movie but it's really dumb if they don't at least attempt to have her in this seeing as how they're a fantastic duo and one of the most loved Marvel duos.

DOFP is a good enough excuse to introduce an already-reworked, adult Rogue and Paquin would probably nail it. She's held on to the franchise this long, it's only fair we get to see two things from her: (1) Rogue kicking ass (2) Rogue's romance with Gambit.

True Blood showcased that Anna Paquin could play a character that could kick-ass. She's still short as Rogue but she looks like more Rogue now that she was in X3.

Agreed. Anna can play Rogue it's just they keep writing her horribly.

If gambit is actully made, and that is debatable at present, there is no reason for rogue to be in it.if your going to do his solo story there isn't a place for
rogue.

I don't agree. This movie has enough in it that they simply don't need Rogue. Besides, I don't think it's a good idea to stick your newest it-character with a girlfriend right out the gate. People only care about relationships when you develop the characters in such a way that they become emotionally invested in them. How good is the emotional investment going to be if you stick him with Rogue basically from the moment he is introduced?

Same question why would Xavier send Storm or any other mutant too. It would be a mission just like he's sent out other X-Men to recruit other mutants it's no different who. But at least Rogue would fit story wise and they're both southerners so that would be awesome too.
Okay. They are both Southern. And...? That still doesn't explain why Xavier would pick Rogue and not someone else.

Why Storm? I'll give you two very good reasons why:
(1) Storm was once a thief as well. She and Gambit relate because she understands the thief lifestyle.
(2) Storm is calm and stoic. She is also a seasoned, veteran X-man. She is much more likely to convince someone to join the X-men than hotheaded Rogue.

It's a no-brainer to include an X-Men presence the way Deadpool did. Considering the options, it's also a no-brainer to put Rogue with Gambit.

It really isn't. As I've asked before: why Rogue and not Storm? Storm (if you must have an X cameo) would make a heck of a lot more sense while also paying homage to Gambit's comic origins with the X-men. People only want it to be a no-brainer because they are desperate to see Romy onscreen. And, while fun, Romy just doesn't make sense in a Gambit origin story.

Deadpool was a solo Deadpool story and that didn't stop Colossus to appear in the movie. if Rogue is included, she's probably there to establish the connection between X-Men and Gambit and of course, bonus marketing/hype for the film.

We have seen this cameo role/world building gimmick, too many times in MCU and X-Men. I don't see why Gambit would be an exception especially if gives more attention to the film especially if done right.

Deadpool isn't meant to be taken seriously. It doesn't matter nearly as much if a character is shoehorned in as getting some laughs is more important than the plot.

Aside from Deadpool, including characters in small roles for marketing purposes and world building has nearly always backfired for the X-Men franchise. They just serve as a distraction and fans get pissed off over some heavily hyped character being little more than a cameo.

Deadpool also completely reworked Colussus. We finally got a proper Colossus. Not the crappy Daniel Cudmore version. Whenever they do Rogue, whether with Gambit or some other film, that's the type of re-invention the character needs. New look, new attitude, new actor, the whole shebang.
