I'm about 550 pages into the book. Very surprised at how faithful the show has been to the series. However, I'm disappointed that Brynden Tully wasn't in this season.

I have to try and find this series and watch it. I've been re-reading the books and all the crazy stuff that happens in book 2. I do wonder how they are going to cast Brienne though should be interesting.

Gwendoline Christie is Brienne Tarth

she is 6'3

Not quite. I always thought that chick Helga from American Gladiators was a good pick. Brianne isnt that tall from what I remember, she's muscular and fairly ugly.

I think she's a good pick, but she's gonna have to be seriously uggofied.

she is hollywood ugly thats all that matters is'nt tyrion suppose to be ugly too lol

Height can be skewed by camera angels. As for looks, they can make anyone look ugly. Look at Charlize Theron.

She can easily be hollywood ugly. And I don't think you see her outside of her armor for at least the next book or so..so she has time to add a little meat to her bones. Great pick.

Brienne was a tough role to cast but she looks like a good choice, can't comment on her acting ability but she has the right height and they could easily apply make-up to make her look ugly. Can't wait to see Brienne kick some ass.

I don't like it... It seems pretty clear the casting director didn't really look for actresses, who might fit the role better. They just went with the fans! This Gwendoline chick better be a good actress and not over 30yo!
BTW anyone knows what's this woman age?

Man i hate those stupid castings. They are so damn lazy!

not a lot of female "actresses" over 6'0.....and this is a tv series, viewers don't like ugly, hurts ratings...so Im guessing Brienne will just be "average" for the show

I think she's a perfectly fine choice. I'd rather they found an actual actress who can play the part (which is more important than looking the part). Gwendoline Christie is 6'3" and not conventionally attractive; once she's in costume and makeup she'll look fine.

Not a lot, but there are enough, if they would have give other actresses(real actresses) a chance, and BTW a 5'11 actress could do just fine, too. even 5'10 IMO.

And BTW i never was one of those who thought the actress must be ugly. Make up can do wonders on pretty ladies...

"real actresses"?? everyone has to start somewhere

and it also balls down to what HBO can afford

they have been talking about this actress as Brienne for some time at winteriscoming.net.

I will take a leap of faith with her...This is a pivotal role...pretty much a career role for someone.

I am sure this actress is beyond thrilled at the prospect of playing possibly one of the best female characters in television

P.S. Making someone ugly is easier then trying to make someone pretty.

Oh yeah the usual casting season 2 speculation posts at WIC. I'm doing the same here but frankly I'm not worried, I think she will do good.
Looking forward to more casting news.

Well if GRRM said she was the clear choice in the auditions then I'm pretty sure she nailed it. HBO can cast some great character actors for sure. Gwendoline Christie's been aware of this role for almost a year now so I'm betting she did her research. This could be a real break out role for her.

:awesome:

You are right, the Casting Director didn't do her job.

I guess GRRM is confused as well?

This was another one of those cases where there was hardly any debate. The day the first batch of auditions went up for the role, we looked at a dozen actresses who were reading for Brienne and one actress who WAS Brienne. Gwendoline gave a great reading, and her look was just perfect. No, when she auditioned, she did not look she does in the photo above. She came in looking... well, like Brienne.

Tyrion is younger than Jaime and Cersei, yet Dinklage is older than Coster-Waldau and Headley.. See how much that hurt his performance?

Awesome map of Westeros (With some spoilers-house crests etc of houses that have not been introduced etc)

There is just way too much confusion in that picture...Although it is a very nice one

Yeah I think I would need to print out and sit down with it for a hour to truly appreciate.
