I am getting pretty damn sick of this stupid Wall nonsense. His father is killed, his sisters are kidnapped, and his brother and countrymen are fighting for their life. So does Jon go help them? No, he has to guard a wall, because something vague beyond it may slowly be doing something. **** the Wall.

Did you not see those whitewalkers?! That is going to be a BIG problem!

Seasons in Westeros do not last for months but years. As you saw in the premiere, summer is over which means winter is coming. The last time the White Walkers appeared over 8000 years ago, winter lasted a generation.

As Jeor Mormont said in the finale last year, "When dead men and worse come hunting for us in the night, do you think it matters who sits on the Iron Throne?" [blackout]And one king will realize this.[/blackout]

Yeah well, what use is a civil war going to be when winter is coming and those things are running through Westeros tearing everything apart?!

I'd capture a few and let them loose on the enemy. But that's me.

I just watched episode 2. The plot thickens. It's killing me to have to wait any amount of time between episodes. This story is so engrossing. I loved the interactions between Arya and Gendry during the episode.

Whitewalkers are not animals to be siced on the enemy. I would have thought that obvious. Jon swore an oath. His only family is on the wall. His life is the wall. Because no one in the south believe in the whitewalkes being back it is important the nights watch remain vigilante.

It was so rewarding watching season 1 in marathon form this past weekend. Id kill to do the same with season 2

I did the same with season one last week too. As soon as Season 2 is finished and I have all the episodes I'm gonna watch them in a marathon. It's more satisfying IMO to do it that way. You're getting one big chunk of story instead of all these little pieces.

I can't do full-marathons, but I did S1 OnDemand a few months ago (after reading the first three books) over the course of a week. It is so much more satisfying to watch it like reading chapters in a book instead of over 2+ months. The story is so much a novel that spreading it so far actually diminishes it some, in my opinion.

Oh I agree. When I first started watching GoT I watched one episode per night. That's the way to really absorb and enjoy the show.

Don't make me go Chris Hansen on you bro :funny:

I think both Sansa and Anya were a bit whiny, stubborn, selfish and immature in season one.

Even the adults are whiny, stubborn, selfish, & immature at times but Arya for my money remains in this mode,
even when she turns into an assassin, her motives remain too childlike & petulant for my taste. As a matter of fact, the only time I could actually synch up with the character, is when she was trapped in Harrenhall & was slowly & initially unwittingly whittling down her tormentors.

Kid has guts in spades, I just can't dig the character.

Ok, so adressing that boring above the wall stuff. Its as real to the people in the south as saying that there is a hoard of zombies coming. The north is always cold and the men of the north are hard. Who goes through a 20 year winter and still wants to serve? Its because the north remembers.

The rest of Westeros would prefer staying away from the cold. Also take into account knowledge. Most don't read so in a few generations monsters in the north is an abstract idea as dragons. We have all the educational materials available to us and still dinosaurs are a fantastic idea. Imagine in a society where most are illiterate?

Things like threats above the wall, dragons, magic are as real to them as they are to us. Most who lived through the last long winter are dead a generation ago. Or are rich and could still manage to het fed when most of the world is frozen.

It also brings into play what king can establish trade with the Summer Islands, Dorne, etc.

Well sort of. His father's head is on a pike on a wall in the capital. Either way, the segments are boring, and kill pacing.

It would be one thing if something interesting was actually happening up there, but it's been a season and nothing yet.

Well once you go to the wall you forsake all family and bonds. Even royalty lose their claims if they are sent to the wall.

You wont be saying all this much longer. There are far more fascinating things waiting beyond the wall. Some great stuff is going to go down up there.

The wall's one of my favourite parts of the show and I can't until season three when we see [BLACKOUT]giants[/BLACKOUT].

Yeah, both Robb Stark and Jon Snow are great, and in fact I like all the Stark children now (even Sansa, after she realized the kind of bastard Joffrey is and even contemplated pushing him down the ledge). The only one I'm not sure about is the youngest, due to the limited screen time he has.

Well I liked Jon Snow from the start, he was easily my favourite character in season 1 and so far in season 2, Robb was just kind of there at first, but from when Ned was captured he has really grown and developed into an awesome character, really looking forward to seeing him develop more in the rest of season 2.

I'm reading AFFC right now. Martin's writing frustrates me. He writes GREAT characters, but I find some of the dialog tedious. It definitely lends a sense of authenticity to the story but I think it's overkill at times. I think he needs an editor that would reign him in a little. Could probably cut it down to 700+ pages instead of a 1000+.

I also have a problem with him adding more and more character POVs to the story. It's a lot of characters to keep track of even if Martin does write them beautifully. Of course there are always a lot of POVs leaving as well so maybe it balances out...wink wink.

That brings me to my final gripe. [BLACKOUT]
He spends so much time crafting these great characters only to gleefully slaughter them or just burn their lives to the ground. Martin takes perverse pleasure in making us care about these characters before he casually disposes fo them.

I understand it is partly what makes the story so engaging, however, I personally find it hard to enjoy a series where characters who I have become fond of are consistantly killed or kicked in the balls. Kinda makes LOTR look like Enchanted in comparision.

[BLACKOUT]I am looking forward to the Brienne arc, the Unsullied and the Battle of Blackwater. Also Arya and Jagen should be awesome.

We better get a happy ending for the good guys, otherwise I'm going to kick GRRM in the nuts.

They deserve it after all the crap they had to go through.

Here's the deal about Jon leaving the wall that they explained in the books but not really in the show. If he left the wall to go and help his family, Robb would not welcome him back with open arms and say "Welcome to the war effort, glad your here to help!" He would behead Jon for being a deserter. They take that Nightswatch vow very seriously in the North.

He's always said the end will be bittersweet. Would you expect anything else?

Oh and meanwhile at the wall... It gets real interesting by the end of this season... I promise.

I think Ned would do it, even to one of his children, but I'm not sure about Robb because he has a great relationship with Jon and while he's been heralded as the King of the North by his troops, he's still very young to this leadership thing. At any rate, it's not Jon's destiny to join Robb's army to avenge for his father's death, anyway.
