On a separate subject, how funny was Theon's speech and him getting knocked out. I almost fell out my chair laughing. :funny:

I hope that's a good thing. I do my best to give you enough to understand without completely spoiling things.

Yeah, that was a legit compliment. I enjoy your insight on the show and the way you explain the background of certain events. You're pretty good with the spoiler tags too which I try not to read but fail most times. ;)

You and a few others have inspired me to make the first couple books my "beach books" for the summer.

That's just rude. I state my complaints articulately and eloquently. .

It's true. I often read your posts in Sir Ian McKellan's voice

can some tell me what we will see in the new season of game of thrones?

i dont care about spoilers, just put tags and tell me what will be next on this show...

:hehe: My secret is out.

Or go to the book thread and ask. Read the announcement, Chris.

Speaking of threads, the name of this thread has always bugged me. Can you fix the "part-2 part-4"?

Is the Whitewalker who does the shriek Benjen Stark from Season 1? :wow:

No. At least as far it's gone in the books. Benjen wouldn't become a Whitewalker, he'd be a wight (zombie).

Case in point, snobbish attitude towards more "pedestrian," entertainments. It is off putting. You should tone it down. No one likes Niles Crane for a reason. ;)

There you are doing it again Matt. I didn't say pedestrian, you did, but you are using it as if I said so. Long and short is, it's not gonna follow TV formula, you complain about it every week but 2 seasons in you should have realized it's not gonna make a u-turn and become Legend Of The Seeker. Legend Of The Seeker took Goodkind's series and did exactly what you are saying, took the world and the characters and did it's own thing, turned one of the great fantasy series of our time into a failure. They are turning it episodic like LOS, they are doing it as written.

It's not the show for you. Going back and expecting different results every time is akin to madness.

Thanks. I always failed reading spoiler tags, too. Still enjoyed the books, especially since I knew what to look for.

The first book they did such a great job adapting (and including additional scenes), you may get a sense of, "Ok, I know what happens. Let's get through this." The chapters you'll probably get the most out of are Catelyn's since they cut hers the most. Unfortunately, book Catelyn is terribly unlikable.

The second book I think you'll enjoy more. I always like picturing what happens as I read it, so having seen this season you'll probably enjoy it better because of that if you're like me. You'll also get a lot more insight into Stannis and Davos who are 2 characters I really liked. You'll see more happen with some characters. However, if you didn't like Dany's story in the show, it is even less interesting in the books until the last few chapters.

But when you're through with that, start A Storm of Swords. Took me a little longer to get into since A Clash of Kings you get to meet characters you heard about in A Game of Thrones. You won't be able to put it down once you're about one-third into it.

If you want some help with reading them like learning more about a character or recalling something, there's this site. They have summaries of every chapter of the first 4 books. There are footnotes to explain things, too (and spoiler warnings).

You can also set it to what books and episodes you've read so you don't accidentally read spoilers.

That is how a book works. In television, the climax is the finale. Once again, you fail to understand that there are different story telling methods for the two mediums.

As a rule of thumb I'd agree with you.

But why be so conformist and arbitrary in demanding a constant following of the convention? I think this show has proven you don't have to do that and can pace it more like a book. Just because no one else does does not mean it can't work for this show or is automatically wrong.

I think it works.

Never watched so no comment. But I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and decide what isn't for me. K? Thanks, Chicken Scratch! :)

It works at times but there are times when it doesn't and the strict adherence to the books hurts the story. I feel like the finale's underwhelming vibe following the tremendous penultimate episode is one of those examples. Thus why I am discussing it.

*sigh* Almost every week I come here Matt reminds me of a child who burns his hand in a fire and then keeps sticking it there even though he hurts himself. This is a message board so of course you can say whatever you want on here. But when you say the same thing over and over agian whats the point. We get it, you dont think the show follows the same narritive as other shows like it should. We have heard it ten thousand times and saying it over and over again wont change anything. So why watch it? And to me its not to different from most other shows out there. Alot of them use the finale to rap some things up and set up for the next season.

Anyway, I liked the finale. The House of the undying could have been done better but I did not hate the change and thought it worked well. And the ending with the whitwalkers was great. It is like someone said, the end shows that all the games being played in the south, infact the game of thrones itself, is just a childess game compared to whats coming.

I thought Theons whole "kill the hornblower" thing was VERY amusing.

Sigh...I've already answered this many times. Here is an idea, don't like my posts...don't read them. I may ***** about the pace and narrative week after week, but you guys come in here week after week, read my posts, argue with me and say, "If you don't like the show, don't watch it!" There are many elements of the show I like, so that's why I watch it. What is your excuse for reading and complaining about my complaints? Just nothing better to do? I don't agree with the hacks who write for the Pittsburgh Tribune Review. You know what I do? I buy the ****ing Post-Gazette.

This is the Game of Thrones thread. Not the Let's Get Pissy Cause I Disagree With Someone thread. Here's an idea, either discuss the show...and if you'd like to discuss THE SHOW with me, I will gladly abide and have a dialogue (as opposed to you telling me what I should or shouldn't watch) with you....or leave the thread. And if you can't resist the urge to ***** about my view on the show, I will gladly ban you from the thread. So yeah, discuss the show, good or bad...or get the hell out. :yay:

I would prefer if we didn't focus on Matt, for he has Mod powers, and attacking his personal opinions (despite having legitimate arguments for and against his points) might result in him unleashing his Mod powers. Let's move on to happier and better places, such as discussing season 3.

We already know some of the characters who will be cast, like Stannis' wife and daughter, Cat's brother and uncle, Mance Rayder, among others. Who are you looking forward to seeing most? Myself personally am interested in Rayder, the books gave him a decent amount of characterization, but I hope the show (and the actor) take him to a different level, and it would elevate Snow's storyline, which I felt was a bit mishandled at the end.

Is the Whitewalker who does the shriek Benjen Stark from Season 1? :wow:

His fate has never been determined in the books, I don't believe. The show could always bring him back and change things up, which I wouldn't be against.

:hehe: you'd think they would know my reputation by now for abusing power and all that. ;)

But seriously, we can discuss my views all that you want. I will gladly discuss Game of Thrones. But enough of the patronizing "you shouldn't watch." B.S. is all I'm saying.

The white walkers on the horses appear to be full bred true White walkers. Not the same as the reanimated corpses they command which are known as wights. I could be wrong tho.

Also is it true Purefoy is playing Mance Rayder?

A lot of people are talking about Theon's first mate being Ramsay, who is Bolton's bastard, right? How would that even work?

I don't know too much about the character of Mance Rayder, but I know I really like Purefoy so I hope the rumor is true.

i dont know how it would work...I think I read somewhere on winter is coming.net that they casted a Ramsay Bolton and he wasnt him I think

That theory never made sense whatsoever. Ramsey holds a castle called the Dreadfort which is northeast of Winterfell. So why would the Bastard of Bolton be hanging out on the Iron Islands to begin with? haha
