Finally bought the first season on Bd and am re-watching it and I just find it so much better than the 2nd season.

Things just seem to flow better and from all the great characters killed off in S1, the new ones in S2 just dont do the job of ably replacing them. Really hope season 3 is a big improvement over 2.

Thats bc it is. There were less characters and a smaller plot which allowed for longer scenes, and better character interactions and developments. S2 introduced alot more characters and the plot increased in scope. With the same amount of episodes, unfortunately alot had to be glossed over with stories/characters going missing for an episode here and there so it didnt flow as well. I kinda wish they had upped the episode count to at leat 12 as that might have helped things a bit

To this day I dont get why they stuck to the 10 episode formula for S2, as you said there were obviously a lot more characters and plot threads to follow so the new characters couldnt get enough room to breathe.

I'd present you all with this crazy concept I like to refer to as "budget." :awesome:

They keep saying that they dont have enough time to do 12 episodes. And well yeah budget is also a factor.

season 1 we didn't get the battle of the whispering wood. season 2 we got the siege at blackwater bay. i don't mind the shorter season as long as we get the big battles.

Is there going to be something as epic as the Blackwater Bay battle in season 3 (aka the third book)?

Please do not give specific spoilers, just a simple yes or no.

PS: And, I heard that the dragons have much bigger role in the third one. True?

Yes. There's a big dragon scene in book 3 that might make it into this season, depending on how much they decide to put into this half.

I imagine the attack on the wall won't take place until season 4.

^Interesting stuff, does that mean Daenary's has a bigger role in S3?

Thought it was nice that the last episode of season 2 ran for an extra ten minutes. That helped a lot and I'd like them to do it more often.

Yep. From 3 onwards she has a huge role, bigger than Season/book 1. Her actions start affecting the rest of the world rather than just her own little experience like season2/book 2 was.

But would more scene's of exposition and getting to know the characters take a huge chunk out of the budget? Its not like I want more huge battle scenes, just a chance to get to know the new characters more as I found myself really not caring for them.

Its why I didnt think much of the Blackwater episode, it mostly involved characters I hated or ones I didnt care for, Tyrion was the only exception but he was fighting for a side I hated.

Yeah, doing this a few episodes a season could make a big difference.

Thats good, thought except for the last few episodes her role got a little stale in S2.
