Game of Thrones - HBO part 2 - Part 7

I was thinking today that Robb should totally fake Talisa's death, stash her at Riverrun, then go to Frey and be all, "hey dude, I met this girl, I let my hormones take over, it was a mistake and I'm very sorry, but she just died tragically and I'm in mourning, and I'm totally set to marry your daughter whats-her-name as agreed." Something like that. Probably too convoluted and underhanded for him to pull off though. Oh well.

To which Walder Frey would reply, "No problem, brah. Happens to the best of us."

It's too bad Robb didn't think up his Casterly Rock gambit before executing Karstark. He could've gone up to him all, "It's a shame you had to go and kill those two boys. Now I'm gonna have to lock you in a cell while your bannermen and I march on Casterly Rock and totally sack the **** out of it. But I guess you wouldn't be interested in that, now that you've avenged your sons' deaths. Oh well, have a nice life, dumbass."

I just hope that Robb doesn't meet the same end as Ned. Nobody respond with spoilered text - I haven't read past the second book! Just expressing a small sentiment.

So you don't want to know that Robb is really Tyrion's bastard son from a long-ago tryst with Catelyn?

Your loss. :o

I'm wondering how pissed are going to be some people after certain characters bite the dust this season (if they remain faithful to the books of course). I don't mind since that's why I watch it, no one is freaking safe! :woot:

I want Arya to grow up to be a beautiful Braavosi swordmaster one day. She needs to get her damn Needle first from that stupid Lannister *****e.

You should probably spoiler your original post.

Non book readers don't open this.
We have been talking about Robb's dumb choices and you posted that so anyone could put 2&2 together and guess who you are talking about.

And I get chastised for bringing the books into the conversation in this thread, geeze dudes... Note to non book readers: the forums are dark and full of spoilers.

As someone one who's never read the book, I don't mind the spoilers at all as long it's in the spoiler tags and even then I don't really mind. It makes me more excited for things to come.

Why don't the mods make a new sub-forum for Game of Thrones like they did for the Walking Dead? That way there can be separate threads for the book readers and show watchers to discuss the content without risking spoilers. :word:

I haven't read the books mostly because I find fantasy books unappealing but I do cherish the show and i would be very disappointed if a major plot point was spoiled for me only because i browse the forums. PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN MODERATORS! The safety of the 7 kingdoms is in thine hands!

I'd also really like to see a prequel series at some point, preferably during the Rise of the Targaryan dynasty. It would be pretty cool to see all the 'pieces' of the game being created and pushed into place before the beginning of the show

The Walking Dead is based on a graphic novel, so they can justify making a section devoted to it. Game of Thrones just has 5 books and some novellas.

People just need to use spoiler tags and not look at them if they don't want to be spoiled.

Game of Thrones is an ongoing series with hundreds of characters, a complete world with thousands of years of history and stories, and a larger universe than Walking Dead and a huge fan base. It dwarfs Walking Dead in pretty much every way in the literary world and the television world.

Yeah walking dead is a comic so it gets the nod here on the hype but going on content alone GOT is equally deserving of a section of its own.

I agree about tags tho. Gotta keep using those tags.

I was going to argue with this, but I actually wouldn't mind a GOT sub-forum. Continue. :o

This is SuperHeroHype. The main purpose of this board is to discuss comic book/graphic novel-based media, neither of which Game of Thrones would be considered. Walking Dead can get one because it is. It took forever for Star Wars and Star Trek to get their own sections and they're cultural phenomenons that define their genre. I love Game of Thrones but it doesn't hold a candle to the impact of either one. The chances of a GoT one are slim. Besides, the section would be relatively quiet for most of the year when the show is off the air. But if you want one, make a case to the mods.

I wish the boards would do temp sections with a probationary period to try out some different concepts. Open up a section see if the traffic is high and the quality of discussion is good. If not close the section down. Idk the logistics of doing such a thing tho.

I vaguely recall the mods laying down the rule that went something along the lines that while spoilers that are being reported in news media (e.g. casting news, filming news, minor background details, etc) are fine, stuff like events that occur much later in the story and details pertaining major events in the current book are definite no-nos. After all, there is a completely separate thread about A Song of Ice and Fire in the book section. If you want to talk about the books, go to that thread. And I feel discussing "How are they going to adapt X scene from Y book?" is still more related to the book than the show.

Before anyone says that the spoilers are hidden in spoiler tags, such heavy discussion and focus on spoilers is enough of a turn off for TV viewers who don't want to risk it; as indicated by Blue Moon's post. And is it not unacceptable for TV viewers to be chased away from their own thread; leaving them with nowhere on the Hype to discuss the show? Especially when there is already a place for book readers to discuss the books? All it takes is for one mistake - be it during the midst of a heated discussion or a formatting error - to spoil the experience for TV fans. And with the shocking twists and turns that happen being one of the big draws of the show and what drew us book fans to the A Song of Ice and Fire series in the first place, is it not a little mean and selfish of us to rob others of the experience?

Lastly, put it this way... Even if the spoilers are hidden in a spoiler tag, TV fans can't respond to an unrelated comment on a person's post if said post also contains a spoiler since quoting said post reveals the spoiler. In other words, TV fans find themselves locked out of even more discussions and find themselves unable to contribute to the thread; driving them away. Which is a little less than ideal, don't you think?

True, I agree that limiting discussion of spoilers is a little strict and harsh, I think it might be the lesser of two evils in this case. Though I'm definitely open to alternative solutions if anyone can think of one. We could always try bringing a mod down to come up with an official ruling and solution. However, I'd much rather try to solve this puzzle at a more "local" level.

All adaptions allow some source material discussion. And last season we were allowed to discuss the book being adapted for the season in this thread. As far as I know that hasn't changed so Storm of Swords discussion should still be ok. You can't have the same discussion in two different places when 90% of viewers and all the book readers only frequent this thread so if something happens in the show that warrants discussion of something in the season's book there is no other way to do it than with spoiler tags here. It works fine in the walking dead section. You don't see them forcing the readers out to another section because of spoiler tags.

Hmm. Seems as if they won't [blackout]be getting to Joffrey's wedding[/blackout] this season. That's a little disappointing. It'll be a hell of a way to kick off Season 4, though.
