STAR WARS: SMUGGLER’S BOUNTY AUDIO DRAMA SET FOR STAR WARS CELEBRATION ANNOUNCING A ONE-TIME-ONLY LIVE PERFORMANCE FROM DIRECTOR KYLE NEWMAN!

Everyone’s favorite Greedo-shooting, Millennium Falcon-piloting, Ewok-preferred main course is back — in a new live audio drama, coming only to Star Wars Celebration.

Star Wars: Smuggler’s Bounty, directed by Kyle Newman (Fanboys, the upcoming Barely Lethal) and co-written by Newman and F.J. DeSanto, stars Han Solo in a special, by-fans-for-fans production set during the original trilogy. Reuniting the creative team behind Celebration IV’s hit Star Wars: Smuggler’s Gambit audio drama, it will be a one-time-only live performance on the Celebration Stage, with music, live sound effects, and a star-studded cast. Much like Smuggler’s Gambit, Smuggler’s Bounty promises to be a love letter to classic Star Wars radio dramas and the saga itself — affectionately made by true Star Wars aficionados.

David W. Collins (Digital Stage host) — who does an uncanny Han Solo — will once again play the Corellian smuggler; James Arnold Taylor (Celebration Stage) will lend his incredible vocal talents, and Jimmy Mac (co-host, Behind-The-Scenes Stage) will produce the live experience. Expected to join them will be The Clone Wars alums Sam Witwer, Jaime King, and many other surprise guests.

After learning a valuable lesson in Smuggler’s Gambit, Smuggler’s Bounty finds Han Solo and Chewbacca, for better or worse, fully committed to The Rebellion. However, while dispatched on a vital diplomatic mission on behalf of Princess Leia, Han, determined to finally wipe his hands clean of Jabba the Hutt, tempts fate by mixing his past and present — only to watch it backfire! Trapped in a dangerous situation, Han is shocked to discover that an old flame may be their only hope for survival….

Remember what Obi-Wan said: Your eyes can deceive you. Don’t trust them. With Smuggler’s Bounty, you won’t have to! So, buy your tickets for Star Wars Celebration now and get ready for a Force-filled audio drama you won’t experience anywhere else!

Liam Neeson was about 45 when The Phantom Menace started principal photography in 1997.
Alec Guinness was about 62 after A New Hope started principal photography in 1976.
Harrison Ford was about 72 after The Force Awakens started principal photography in 2014.

Ford is the oldest main mentor figure to kick off a trilogy so far.

The title of this thread just make me think of those James Bond taglines you see at the end of the credits in the James Bond movies. Which I could see them using if they did a solo (*ahem*) Han Solo film.

Vanity Fair - Star Wars Cover: J.J. Abrams Reveals His Idea to Kill Jar Jar Binks

But the magic of Star Wars isn’t all about the creatures; the best effect in the wildly popular new trailer (88 million views and counting!) may have been Harrison Ford, slipping seamlessly back into Han Solo’s classic slow grin. Abrams himself was surprised by the performance and said that Ford “was excited to get back in those shoes again, which was really interesting because I thought he hadn’t been a fan. I kept hearing those rumors when I was a kid.” Abrams did have one specific note for the veteran actor: “I knew that he had done in some movies a kind of more growly thing, and I didn’t want Han to be growly.” Whatever Abrams said must have worked because, as the director himself put it, “There was a fire in his eyes that you see in the movie.”

Vanity Fair June 2015 issue said:
Abrams had met with Ford during the script process. "We talked about what we were thinking for the story, and he liked what he was hearing. He was excited to get back in those shoes again, which was really interesting because I thought he hadn't been a fan. I kept hearing those rumors when I was a kid."

Han with a leather jacket reminds me too much of Indiana Jones. I hope he wears the black vest at some point. But I have to say that it's awesome to see Han Solo again! :)

It's definitely just a normal length jacket, not a long one like the concept art.

Additional quotes from Abrams about Ford.

People - See Harrison Ford and Peter Mayhew in the First Photo of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Cast

...

Director J.J. Abrams told the magazine he was "terrified at the prospect" of directing Star Wars veteran Ford, who is still on the mend after crashing his vintage WWII plane March 5 on a golf course in Santa Monica, California.

"It wasn't just about directing one of the great actors in film history. It was about directing one of the great actors in film history playing a character that was certainly one of his two defining characters," Abrams said.

...

After Ford returned to set after breaking his leg in June while filming, he came back stronger than ever, explained Abrams.

"In a weird way, it was the greatest gift to the movie that, once it was clear Harrison would be okay, the way that the crew came together, I've never seen a crew bonded like that," he told VF.

"And when Harrison came back, when I say he came back better and stronger than ever, I can't overstate that. There was a fire in his eyes that you see in the movie," he said.

Ugh

There's good talent involved so I'm not completely disgusted, but I really wish the spinoffs weren't about main, iconic characters.

I'm excited by the talent involved but I agree with weezerspidey in that I really didn't want the spinoffs to be about young versions of the major characters. Oh well, right now I'll just geek out over the fact that we're getting a Lord & Miller Star Wars film written by Lawrence Kasdan. That alone is rather glorious.

Now the next big thing will be seeing who they cast as a young Han Solo...

If there's good stories to tell there's good stories to tell regardless of who it centers around . Like I said before some of the best books in the EU was actually the young Han Solo trilogy.
