Henry Cavill IS Superman: - - - - - Part 14

I wonder what would have happened if he was cast as Bond in Casino Royale. My guess is, we'd have a different Superman now and 90% of the population would have no idea who Daniel Craig is.

I'm glad things worked out the way they did. But Cavill as Bond somewhere down the road... that would be epic.

Absolutely. I think it would be cool if he played a villain. I'd love to see Henry as a suave, charming Sith.

Nah, I'd rather see Cavill in some Jedi robes with a blue lightsaber kicking some ass. :woot:

Cute, relaxed Henry from this interview...

You guys think he'll accept the Christian Grey role if he's offered it? I think by now the people behind 50 shades are already making their way to Henry's camp, so to speak.

..I hope he doesn't though. I pray that he doesn't.

(shudder) You and me both. My personal opinion is that this would be a disastrous decision for Henry. As much as I love Superman, I hate 50 Shades of Grey. Everything about that book and its overwhelming success make me want to puke.

The book's massive sales success might give the impression that the film adaptation will likewise be an instant hit, but I'm not so sure. There's a difference between reading "mommy porn" and watching it on the big screen, and I have a gut feeling that the film version of 50 Shades of Grey will ultimately amount to little more than a trashy B-movie, along the lines of something like Showgirls.

Maybe I'm wrong. But if I'm right, and Henry signs up for that trashy B-movie, he will have damaged much of the fan credibility he built up by playing Superman. That's just my opinion. I can understand why so many fans of the book want Henry to play Christian Grey - the dashing good looks and charisma say it all. But as a fan of Superman and Man of Steel, I hope it'll be a cold day in hell before Henry would accept the role of Christian Grey.

I dont see DC/Warner Bros being too happy at the prospect of their wholesome Superman getting all Sado-Machistic on screen. They may just have a word in Henry's ear.......

Yes. That would marginalize him as an actor in some people's eyes.
The dude from that pron fanfic movie is Superman?

He won't endanger his Superman gig. I don't think the 50 Shades movie will give him as much advantage in the marketplace. The only reason why people have even heard of its director is because she married someone she directed 20 years younger. :oldrazz:

Stephenie Meyer supposedly based the character of Edward Cullen on Henry's physical perfection. I don't think personality-wise they're anything at all alike, but God if he and Pattinson had switched places? :barf:

He'd do decently and people would be hating on him and he probably wouldn't play Superman :wow:

I think he was up for the Fassbender role.
Stelios? Well Stelios is portrayed in the comic with long curly hair and they exactly replicated that look for the movie (as with everything else in the movie) so I don't think Cavill was up for that role. I think he was up for Astinos, the other young guy role, the captain's son. It was a supporting role but I think Cavill might have done better than the original actor who went nowhere it seems. Also if cast, I think Cavill might have gone for a physique more like Immortals than Man Of Steel because otherwise he would have upstaged Leonidas and Leonidas is supposed to be the lead guy.

But it definitely would have given him a 6 year head start to be a "name" than waiting till he turned 30.

I hope he doesn't either.

I got the vibe from some of Henry's interviews that he really didn't like the sex scenes in the Tudors. I think he found them extremely uncomfortable. In one interview, he said he prefers love scenes that aren't quite so explicit.

Of course, movies like 50 Shade of Grey that are basically soft porn are almost guaranteed oscar-bait. So, you never know.

50 shades is Oscar bait? The Academy will not even touch with a 10 foot pole. Its not going anywhere near an oscar, unless it is used in a S & M scene.

Yeah, Oscar bait usually has at least good source material to work from, even if the movie turns out to be hokey. You HAVE all seen a bit of the 50 Shades book, right?

This is a money-grab, nothing more. And an ill-timed money grab, because they got the rights more than a year ago and should have had the movie out by now. :funny: I think the 50 Shades ship has sailed...

I hope you are right, but let me clarify. I think it is Oscar bait for the actors, not the movie itself. Oscar voters tend to love actors who do nudity and raunchy sex scenes. Just look back over some of the recent winners and nominees (There are exceptions like Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep).

I think it would be a bad career move for him to do 50 Shades. One of my friends convinced me to read the first book, and I walked away really disturbed by Christian Grey's character. I've read other series with S&M before (Ann Rice, the Kushiel series), and I have enjoyed them, but I have never disliked a protagonist as much as this one.

He is controlling, condescending, insecure, twisted, mentally whacked, cruel and he can only get off by physically hurting the woman he loves. I really don't care if he changes in the next couple of books; he's horrible in the first one and that is who the person playing him in the first movie will need to embody.

Christian Grey is literally the opposite of Clark Kent and Superman in every way, in my opinion. I actually do believe that Henry has somewhat of a responsibility as a role model during the years that he is playing Superman. He doesn't have to play characters who are morally perfect, but I believe that 50 Shades sends some really whacked messages about relationships to young, impressionable women, and I hope he chooses to take the high road and refuse it.

Not really. Look at Michael Fassbender. He got his junk out and did extremely explicit sex scenes in Shame but got passed over by the academy.

Yeah, but I remember he got very angry when he didn't get nominated. It was like he expected a nomination as some sort of reward for letting it all hang out.

On the flip side, there have been quite a few actors and actresses who DID get nominated (and some have actually won) when they did the nudity/sex thing.

This. I haven't read the books, but I've read plenty of reviews and enough excerpts to know that it glorifies abusive relationships and worships at the altar of material wealth and consumerism.

I'm kind of conflicted.

I know 50 shades is a pile of steaming cow dung. And I don't want Henry assosiated with it for that reason.

But then the woman in me imagines him... Doing those things...

*drools*

:hehe:

yeah

I haven't read the books, but I find it a little disturbing how women are swooning over this kind of man if he's all those things you're describing.

A friend told me this book started as a twilight fanfic, Henry is supposed to be the man Meyer based Edward Cullen on, I could see the movie crew having Henry on their radar. *shudders*

Yeah, I hear what you're saying. You think you want to see him naked in steamy sex scenes, but he is playing a character who must hit the woman he's with in order to enjoy sex with her, and she DOESN"T LIKE THE PAIN. It's not like she actually gets off on it, like they do in countless romance novels; she is doing it to make him happy. I wasn't turned on; I actually felt sick by the end of it, and like I said, I've read S&M before. Both people need to like it.

I don't know this 50 shades of grey book from a can of peas, but cavill being a role model and all this other jive is nonsense. Just pick roles that interest you as an artist. I liked him as superman but not interested in following actors careers. I appreciate their work as heroes and nothing more

I'm not sure if you're a man or a woman, but as a woman, I'm admittedly somewhat sensitive to this. It also hits home because I'm a parent. And even though I'm a liberal female who has no problem with sex in books, I am concerned about the bizarre message this book sends to young women. It's really messed up to me that so many women think Christian Grey is hot.

You may not be influenced by these kinds of things, or follow actors outside of their movies, but many people do. It bothers me to think that millions of young women/girls who are fantasizing about the current Superman (and trust me, they are, RIGHT NOW, lol), might soon see him embodying a character who wants to torture the woman he supposedly loves during sex. You may not think it's a big deal, but as in introspective female, I am acutely aware of how much it really can influence people.

I think Henry Cavill has made a commitment to more than a just being in a movie. He's not playing Batman. He's not playing the Hulk. He's playing Superman. Supes stands for something different. Sure, he can take whatever role he wants; I just hope he's a little more discriminating in the next few years. Honestly, I'd rather than he play a serial killer than Christian Grey, because at least people aren't placing the serial killer on a pedestal.

We'll have to agree to disagree. :yay:

I hope Henry has enough sense to reject mommy porn.

Yeah. For the ladies who really want to see him in sex scenes, I'm sure he'll have some in other movies down the line. Just hopefully not in 50 Shades of Crap.
