he looks great as superman now, but i almost think with how his hair used to be he could have actually looked even better like 8 years ago. it's kind of a shame how much limbo and failed projects have happened over years. very glad to get cavill now at least and mos is a solid reboot.

Yeah I keep wondering what if, we could have had a definitely Superman movie trilogy by now. But then Cavill might never have done BvS which would be a shame. I kind of think I'm an ideal world id have my definitive Superman trilogy and then the characters would have been rebooted in JL. I was actually a fan of JL Mortal, really liked the script and the casting I liked most of.

So I'm wondering why Supes never has his freeze breath then I remember. That's an hella OP ability. If he used that on the Kryptonians in MoS the fight would be over really fast. Cause they'd be frozen. Or if he had it in BvS and used it on Batman the fight'd be over in 2 seconds. So ofcourse he doesn't use it.

Now that you mention it, I think it would have been neat to see cold breath versus heat vision in MoS.

I think the DCEU version doesn't have it. At least, based on Goyer's comments, and the fact that if Superman did have it, he would've used it.

He left the door open for it tho. I highly recommend listening to his nerdist podcast interview.

He could have it and simply not know it. Just like he didn't know he could fly until he started exploring his powers.

Kind of crazy that Cavill was only 21 when he was being considered for Superman.

Even crazier when you remember that Tom Welling essentially started playing Superboy when he was 24.
Cavill was fustrated with that. He said the following back in 2003.

SUPERMAN

Ain't It Cool News' Down Under reporting discusses a possible shooting location for the beleaguered Warner franchise, with a case for Brendan Fraser as the big blue boy scout and a slew of Aussie supporting actors. However, Superman-V.com has an updated quote from alleged front-runner Henry Cavill, who posted the following to a fansite: "I am going on a callback audition for Superman today (they're remaking the original movies) fear is I may be too young though.....which is so often the case =("

It's nice that both Cavill and Routh still ended up getting to play Superman.
I still don't know what filmmakers were thinking 10 years ago for considering a 21 year old for the roles of Bond and Superman.
And Batman!
First time i'm seeing the Stan Winston flyby costume like that (i haven't been keeping up to date with things). While the design is nice i don't like that it looks like armor.

I was so excited when I heard Henry Cavill had been cast for Superman for Man of Steel. I don't think anyone can deny that he looks the part 100% and I loved his portrayal in MOS. First movie I ever watched Henry in was The Count of Monte Cristo. The remake staring Jim Caveizal. Watching that film Henry was relatively unknown and young. But watching that movie I was like this kid has potential.

This is amazing. He looks so much more mature now and less boyish, which totally worked in MOS but now he looks like nothing but the perfect Superman and the perfect Clark.

His face looks fuller, lost the messy hair and he still looks quite different from when he is Supes in BVS. I'm just noticing now how unique he looks as Clark when compared to his Supes avatar. Makes the Clark disguise so much more convincing.

I don't like MOS much but Cavill looks like superman/clark so much not just look but his mannerisms... Great casting. It's not easy to find a superman even in hollywood.

Russell Crowe was great casting too. He can tell me how to make an omelette and i would feel like learning secrets of universe. He can make anything epic just like Liam Neeson.

Generally casting was superb in MOS.

^ I liked Costner..but not the way his role was written.

His acting was just fine..it's his characterization that's the problem.

I was initially ambivalent about MoS's portrayal of Jonathan Kent, but over time I have come to both accept and appreciate it as having a really strong integrity of its own in this film, which gives us a new vision of the Superman character and his story.

This, to me sums up the updated vision of Superman that Snyder is attempting to craft in MoS:

I never felt like a [superhero] movie should exist in the real world before, but I feel like Superman should... All the Superman movies that have been made exist in some weird stylized world where everyone's, like, apple pie and Chevrolet and it's... like the American Dream in a weird way... [T]he thing I find interesting is... being able to release the character from that world, where he's been stuck and shackled, and bring him to our world and see what he does.
I have come to view this film as much a modern science fiction film as the traditional story of Superman. He's an extra-terrestrial who forced to leave his home planet and inhabit an alien world. He's a Stranger in a Strange Land. There are also themes in the film that I think hark to the Greek demigod myths--and the Greek myths are usually not happy ones.

In that sense I see MoS's Superman as a somewhat tragic figure, actually. This might sound a little whacked, but I think he comes about very much in the way that Hercules does (Jor-El having parallels with Zeus). Hercules is a kind of wandering, almost damaged soul, who gets great burdens placed upon him in addition to having his powers. And like Hercules, Superman is a very human character who can, and does, make mistakes like the rest of us--although obviously the stakes are epic and enormous, unlike our more mundane daily struggles.

However, the film is also ultimately hopeful in its outlook because MoS's Superman is also a character who in the face of tremendous adversity perseveres and overcomes extraordinary obstacles. It's all about resilience--and the power of individual choice.

Anyway, Jonathan Kent is crafted for this film to support such a characterization of Superman. And that's fine with me. I was ready to see the Superman character finally brought into the world that we actually inhabit today. I think Snyder is a genius for doing this, and the effort is extraordinary.

Snyder knew MoS would be a lightning rod of a film! How could it not be. It's a decisive break from a kind of rose-colored 'childhood' in the evolution of the character. Superman is finally growing up in film.

Btw, way there is a similar 'being forced to grow up and adapt to the harsh real world' theme to what I'm positing about MoS in Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole. While Owls is not anywhere near as successful as MoS in conveying it, I think the 'loss of innocence' theme as a key ingredient to personal growth (and then drama in general) shows up as a very strong recurrent one in Snyder's films. I think you can find it also prominently also in 300 and Watchmen if you look for it.

I liked how Jonathan was handled as a character, but ultimately felt the decision to kill him off was kind of bland.

I would have preferred him to survive personally but his death made sense with the way the story went
