BvS Henry Cavill IS Superman - - - - - - - - - - - - Part 26

Maybe it's just me but did anyone else prefer the coloring of the suit in Man of Steel than BvS? Particularly the red. The suit doesn't look well over Fong's yellow-ish color like in the senate scene.

I loved the coloring in BVS a lot more than MOS, however, imo due to Cavill having kind of T-Rex length arms, there were a couple shots, not all, but just a few where with the added bulk of muscle it made him appear like a little stubby. Again that's just my visual perspective, i don't speak for others of course. I know people will hate it when I say this but what made Reeve work is that although he didn't appear as muscular as Cavill he had natural long arms and broad shoulders and a 6'4 frame, so he imo appears far more imposing and statuesque, which is how I love Big blue to look.

No, the suit is perfect as is no changes needed, and the lighting fit the area he was in, yours does not.

To each his own I guess. I don't like the lighting. Makes Cavill's suit appear purple and makes Cavill look extremely pale. I don't dig that twilight look myself. I'm glad you like it though, right on!.

You guys are making me want a bearded Supes so damn bad...

Bearded Supes is a must. Full circle style with MoS too.

No, I meant literally the setting is at night in a devastated area with very few light sources nearby, so why would he be well lit like he is in you manip, answer he wouldn't, he would look like he does in the original shot.

Yeah that sound's ok, but almost every damn shot in a Zack Snyder movie makes him look like that no matter the time of day, raining or not, dark or light. Take the rooftop scene with Luthor for example. Now if you went on a rooftop at night with minimal lighting, you're clothes would be darker, harder to make out, however you wouldn't change color or suddenly lack color. However in that rooftop scene, Superman's costume looks like black suit, purple cape. So when I change color's in my manip I'm not making something unrealistic, i'm merely trying to keep the actual color's of the actual suit while keeping it darkly lit as it should be because of the scene lighting at hand.

Disagree, he had a large amount of colors, in well lit areas the suit would be clearly blue, red, and the best new addition in this movie, gold instead of matte yellow behind the S. Then in scenes where lighting is low like on the roof the darker/cooler colors of the suit like blue are not illuminated so it looks very dark, and the brighter colors like red were still red like the S symbol but were still understandably darker. Actually the courtroom scene is one of my favorite scenes of the suit in the movie as we get to see his impressive physique in such a beautiful suit with rich blue and red with the Gold being the best aspect of the suit in that scene as it practically sparkles in that scene.

I love that the whole arctic is Clarks fortress of solitude but I do want a real fortress in a future solo Superman movie.

Jeez. The coloring in your manip is much more pleasant to look at. Awesome job.

I wish we would get a Superman movie with a warm and inviting color palette like this.

yea i felt bvs's cinematography was done really well, but color wise it was too desaturated.

i think mad max fury showed that you can really saturate a film and still have awesome results. as Man O Steel's manip shows too.

So whats the explanation for this? And how come I never see anyone talking about this?

I cant accept such a cartoony idea in this hyper-realistic gritty world they are trying to create.

And in fact the writer said they would have to address the "ludicrous glasses disguise" (his words) in the sequel but they never did.

Because Goyer was wrong, and it's not actually an issue. Even in a "hyper-realistic" world... That has superpowered aliens, 5000 year old Amazon warriors, an underwater kingdom etc.
Superman appeared in front of Congress and was on every TV on the planet. Clark's picture was also printed in the Daily Planet. Perry also interacted with him everyday and also saw him fighting Zod up close.

I'm sorry but suspension of disbelief doesn't apply here. The filmmakers can't have it both ways. They can't tell us they are taking a super realistic take on this character and then wave their hands at something this fundamental.

Yes, it does. Of course it does.
Your amazing argumentative skills are truly without equal :whatever:

That's a vast improvement over the bland and ugly original colors.

I understand where people could say, in this story that is meant to be more grounded and realistic (not the physics or powers, but the way people act and their motivations, similar to how Game Of Thrones is realistic) that it's really hard to suspend disbelief that somebody could not recognize Clark is Superman, especially when Lois did immediately (maybe a magic kiss that allows her to see through the glasses lol), and I completely get the whole reasoning of "They aren't looking, or it doesn't cross their mind because why would Superman try to walk around like a regular person". But it's still incredibly risky every day to go out in the world pretending not to be Superman, who would be the most famous person on Earth, I'm sure.

So, I've tried to think of a way to avoid that, some kind of disguise, makeup, illusion, Kryptonian technology or whatever so that Clark and Superman look different enough that you can buy that nobody recognizes him. But, Idk, I suppose it's just so ingrained into the mythology that it's best to just leave that alone, let it be what it is, and just turn your logic off for that specific aspect of the story.

I'm hoping they didn't feel like it was a bit too silly, but still wanted to include the Clark persona, so they just gave us that and then killed him off, never to return. Basically saying "It could have only lasted for so long." Both the Bruce and Clark secret identities are essential to the mythos, at least until the final act of the overall DCEU story.

I'm fine with the visual look of the films, think BvS looks better than MoS. But, for a Superman story, I feel like they probably could have used a brighter color palette, ideally, to pay homage to the source material, in the way that Batman's dark colors pay homage to the film noir that he is inspired from. There's some beautiful imagery in both films, but they might could have tweaked his outfit to make it a little brighter, at least the blue. But I feel, especially in MoS, a lot of the scenes would have benefitted from a bright color pallet, like the artwork in Superman For All Seasons (like the full page panel where Jonathon walks out to Clark who is looking out over the farm with this beautiful bright sunset. Things like that, which look like a beautiful painting

Truth be told, I actually loved liked 90% (at least) of Superman's shots in this film. If anything, I only wish that we could have gotten more close up shots of Superman while he was flying in his classic pose.

Good stuff.

How do you feel about Superman and the DCU these days herolee?
