Hitman: Absolution - Part 1

I think Hitman makes a great basis for a Terminator movie in the same way Super Mario Bros. would make a great basis for a Predator movie.

The Terminator(s) do concern themselves with stealth to some degree, or else they wouldn't bother disguising themselves as humans. With that in mind however, the stealth elements of a Terminator game would be extremely minimal.

That's the thing, everybody in similar clothing is suddenly suspicious of you to the point of confrontation. Hiding in plain sight was one of the best things about disguises. Now you can only hide in plain sight at designated locations, which sucks coz those places are only good for refilling the instinct bar. The rest of the time you have to press up against walls and crouch behind desks to move around coz everybody in the same clothes as you turns into Sherlock Holmes.

The old system may have made the game easier but this alternative isn't any better. At least it's easy enough to fix with some minor tweaks but I'm not sure how they'd go about doing that since it looks like they designed every part of the game with the new mechanics in mind. Even a simple fix like making it so people only confront you if you linger in their line of sight too long would be awesome.

So I can skip that section? I pointed it out coz it's a shoddy filler mission, same goes for the shooting range right after, or the whole escaping from the cops bit or working your way from the strip club back to chinatown. All this filler separating the sandboxes for the sake of narrative irks me, and it's even more annoying when missions are broken up into segments. Blood Money handled story just fine without forcing you through anything like that. Hopefully for the next game they work on cutting out that filler and focus more on the open level design. The level design of the previous games with the new, tight gameplay mechanics would be f**king incredible.

A bit random to bring up the Sanchez QTE lol, I don't have an issue with that aside from it being extremely comical and granting a Silent Assassin rating.

This is word for word how I feel about this game. And seeing how the story isn't that great or clever, I very much prefer the old games. I can understand why people love this one, and I'm not saying it's a bad game at all, but it wasn't as enjoyable as the others to me.

I really think it was less innovative. It was too much like any other stealth game to my liking, wether the old hitman games were really different.

I beat this game last week and overall I really enjoyed it. Surprised I never really got into the series before as I think Id have loved it. Some thoughts on what I liked and didnt like

Cons:
This game was very linear. At first I enjoyed all the options presented to you but the early levels seemed a bit misleading as its not nearly as open as it initially appears to be. The best missions were when you were thrown in a large environment with a target and it was up to your discretion how to take em out. I didnt care much for the objective based missions where you have to make your way from point A to B. Somewhere along the line the game got a bit too "gamey" for me. Think to the facility where you are trying to make your escape. The setting just seemed generic and what you'd find in a typical third person shooter except adapted for stealth gameplay. I prefered the more real life settings like a business district or courthouse.

I was really hoping the way this game would be set up is that you were given different contracts and you had the freedom to choose which to do and in what order. Maybe that was done in earlier games and they were trying to switch up the format now; I wouldnt know. In any case, I hope thats how the next title is.

Speaking of which the game got really hard towards the end to the point where stealth wasnt really much of an option. It became much easier to just get into big gun fights take everyone out and proceed.

Pros:
Presentation. It can be understated in games but it really makes it so much better. From the menus, to the stat systems, the way the challenges are laid out, etc...I really love the presentation of the game and its visuals. Graphics were good and it was a nice game to look at.

I havent really messed with Contracts but it seems like a good addition and can help increase the replay value of this

I liked the scoring system and how it encourages you to find new ways to play and compete against your friends and the world to get a higher score in a mission. Another great touch to increase replay value.

As for Veronica, the girl you are trying to recover.
She is so X-23. I wonder if that was their inspiration for her bc they shared so many similairities.

Id give this a solid 8, maybe 8.5. It had its fault but it was enjoyable which is all I can ask for. This was such a great choice to add to PS PLus but Im sure the franchise has now gained new fans. It defiently won me over. SE missed an oppurtunity to putting the Trilogy on PS Plus prior to Absolution's release as that could have been a good way to promote this title.

This game has linear sections in it(more than any other installment), but overall i wouldnt call it linear. I mean you still have a TON of options throughout the game, even during the more 'focused' sections. Metal Gear or Splinter Cell dont come near the options Absolution has.

I agree though, the best missions were the 'sandbox' type missions. Shaving Lenny was probably my favorite.

No, thats never been done in the series before. Its always been you have a contract(s) and the game places you in the level to take out that mark(s). The King of Chinatown is probably the closest level to how the old games played. A system of having multiple contracts to go after wouldnt of made sense for this game. IO crafted a very different story compared to previous games. However, with how the game ended, its very possible we could see a system like that in the next installment and id agree, id like something like that as well.

Its Victoria, haha and no, [BLACKOUT]she wasnt inspired by X-23[/BLACKOUT], she was a mirror (or how the game so bluntly put it, the opposite side of a coin) to 47. That was really the whole reason he went after her. 47 is almost a damn robot, very emotionless, but he saw himself in her and didnt want her to go down the same path he did. He never had a choice and he wanted to give her that option. Outside of maybe Hitman 2, this was the best look into who 47 is as a person. You actually got to see that there is something there(albeit little) behind the bald head and the cold stare.

So Blood Money will be on sale tomorrow on PSN for $4.25 for Plus members. Worth getting at that price? Would I be fine with just that or should I get the entire trilogy (that unfortunately isn't on sale).

Id say you'd be fine with just Blood Money. Blood Money still holds up fairly well whereas the others have aged considerably.

I started with Blood Money and didn't feel like I needed the previous games. Blood Money is truly excellent, not just as part of the series but as a video game. Definitely still holds up today.

Looks like IO is still developing there Hitman game

Yea. I was deff looking forward to more Hitman in shorter time, like it was around the time Silent Assassin came out, but at least IO is still doing their thing.

Square Enix confirmed that IO is still working on a AAA Hitman title and that SEM has been moved to mobile games.

"Io-Interactive is developing a new, AAA Hitman game that will be coming to PC and next-gen consoles and Square Enix Montreal is fully focused on mobile development of games some of which are related to the Hitman franchise. We look forward to sharing more details about these titles later this year."

I know it's not exactly Absolution but it's still Hitman, and I know there are some big fans like Pat on this site, so I was just wondering if you would all care to check out this Hitman video I made using Blood Money :woot:

Dude that was really cool. One of my fav levels in the Hitman franchise. You should do more of those, maybe use Absolution or other games from the series. The Meat King hit from Contracts would be a great one to see.

Its funny that this thread was bumped now, considering the new casting for Agent 47 and the fact that im currently reading Hitman: Damnation and playing through Absolution again.

Thanks man :yay: you wouldn't believe how annoying the free camera mod is to operate, but the results were better than I expected. Yeah I was thinking of doing it maybe, I was working with A New Life initially but that was a bit of a pain to work with, so I decided to use my favourite mission which is Curtains Down. I've loved that mission since I first played it, really creative mission. I don't have Absolution on PC, The Meat King would be neat, though I love Traditions of the Trade the most actually. Love big open Hitman sandboxes.

Yeah I was surprised I had to go back a page to find the thread considering the film news. I'm planning on becoming a director/writer so I thought I'd try and use a game I like to have some fun and Blood Money is one of my favourites. You don't find many Machinima or game related videos having a strong emphasis on cinematography, so I tried to really emphasise it in this video just from the first shot alone. Feel free to share it around, the more exposure the better :D

Agent 47 at his prime. I wonder is that means Prequel or soft reboot.

Sounds pretty awesome, what do they mean by 47's magic pockets?

In the old games you couldn't hide a large weapon. If you picked up a shotgun or rifle, the only way 47 could carry it was by holding it. So so so glad this feature is back
