How can Raimi prevent this film from becoming X-Men: The Last Stand?

Raimi couldn't make anything the likes of X3 if he tried. He doesn't have a gun to his head forcing him to make stupid decisions. He doesn't have a ridiculously short schedule. SM3 will not suffer the fate of X3.

amen

I'm sure Sam Rami is going to be thrilled with 130 in 3 days,

so i think this thread should be retitled

What can Sam Rami do to turn this into X3

Raimi can do only one thing that X-men 3 didn't do to become great.

Not make everything feel rushed as hell. X-men 3 felt rushed, straight to the point, kill, kill main charchters and then possible sequel device.

If he can make the story have depth, good action(which X3 had) and understanding of both the villian and hero then it's all good. 2 hours or an 1 and 40 could do the trick for the movie length.

ummm...just throw'n this out there:

i liked X3...a lot!

sure it was short on character development, short in general, and has it's share of problems especially when it comes to the development hell it went through....but all in all i've enjoyed the hell out of it both times i've seen it and will continue to for the 3-4-5 and so on.

Allow me to type in a language you guys understand. Now. . .either

A) The 4 villains and the Stacy family along with the returning characters steal the show and fans complain

OR

B) Spidey is still the main focus and everyone else doesn't get the amount of development they need and. . .fans complain!

Now. . .how is Raimi gonna give ALL of these characters a good amount of development in 2 hours (In case it isn't a 3 hour epic) without pissing off the fans?

If the film is 2 and a half or 3 hours we will be fine, but if it's 2 hours like the other films someone is gonna get screwed and we keep hearing Venom is only in the film for 10 minutes. You know that's gonna piss off A LOT of people.

Some of you weren't here for the first film, but there was this thread called "Organics Sucks" and people were complaining for almost 2 years and Mirko and Malice were forced to shut down that thread.

I think some of us wouldn't want a "They f--ked Venom thread" or a "Capt. Stacy is the new Pat Hingle" type of thread.

Raimi doesn't HAVE to give every single character a great amount of screentime and give every one complete justice...he just has to tell a good story that will captivate and entertain the audience.

This movie isn't titled "Gwen Stacy" "Captain Stacy" "GG" "Sandman" or "Venom"...its "Spider-man" He's the only character that really needs justice, the other characters just add to HIS story.

Im 100% confident Sam will come through, give each character justice (even though he doesnt HAVE to) and make an amazing 3rd movie

heh some are already sure they ****ed venom.
s3news3.jpg
Raarr! We am venom!

I'm already sure they ****ed spidey so I've given up on them really making it like I want it and will be objective enough to view what's there and pass judgment without the comics in mind...

He can prevent this film from becoming x3 by having a good story, and not getting stuck trying to be faithful to the comics.

four villians. i would go about it this way.
Villian 1 - Disposed of the the first couple of scenes, set a bench mark for the action early, this can also be used in the trailer to avoid spoiling nay of the story. this can be a way to introduce Eddie as a photographer and possibly get the black suit, so in 5 minutes we have made major headway.

Sandamn - brief origin in flashback dont waste time with developing him as we would with more improtant characters. he is a thug for hire possibly created by Oscorps foray into genetics. (similar to ultimate)

Harry wants Sandman to draw out spidey, sandman fails. Spidey going nuts with black suit etc. with the battle we can also have Eddie on the scene doing his thing.

GGII
Sandman fails and Harry decides to step in, possibly with help from sandman, in this scene, possibly 1hr 45 in we can have spidey dispose of sandman and get rid of the simbyote pasing to brock...

final scene, harry kidnaps MJ, Brock gets Gwen.

threeway smackdown Venom/Spidey/Goblin, get harry nocked down fairly early on then the main battle between venom and Spidey. Venom disposes of MJ (taking her out of future movies). this makes harry decide its gone to far and he helps take out venom. Peter is upset about MJ, harry leaves vowing he will have his revenge (but not yet) unconsious Brock is arrested and the movie is over, with closure but plenty of scope for sequels if needed.
thats how i would do it anyway

No one I guess, but I threw it out there. Sue me.

completely true. that movie should have been a half hour longer and directed by bryan singer. the problem was not the story, the plot, or the large number of characters.
Sp-3 has had a really long filming which would suggest it's a long movie. we have twice the budget as X-3, the same director, and they had 2 years of pre-production to perfect the story and everything prior to the start of filming.

The story wasn't great either. And the new mutant characters didn't do much to the story's action, but almost served as plot devices. Beast only served to tell us about the "cure" while introducing Angel didn't maximize the conflict between his character and his dad. Angel only served to illustrate one side of the mutant issue with struggling with who they are.

There was no depth to any of the characters... and for this, I blame Ratner's directing of them. So many characters die, and what does the film do? Rushes to the next scene.

The same exact thign could happen with the spider-man movies if the screenplay is not great. Too many characters written and not enough time to show them sometimes translate to weak characters. These characters tend to be plot devices and serve no other purpose except to stir up some action or move the story forward. Or worse, a whole story built around a character who does nothing... (like leech in X3).

he could start off by making spidey 3 over 2 hours.

yeah, i know. not matter how much people ***** about it, everyone in the world we see it -- and everyone on here will end of loving it. thats just the way it goes.

I don't care what fanboys say, X-Men 3 was awesome. I just wish it was a half hour longer.

X3 was better than X-Men for me. Not better than X2, but still a very, very enjoyable movie.

Raimi needs to devote as much time to the symbiote as he did with the power lose thing in part 2. And sure 1hr and 40min solving that problem was fine cause of the one villain.

But here you got Harry, Flint and his wife and I believe sick child, and Brock. With the addition of JJ and John who are pissed, MJ's relationship with Peter, Gwen as a possible new love interest, and Aunt May's new life in the city or whatever.

And Pete with the symbiote is in the middle of all this!

The Spider-man films are already a disaster but in their own way.

In all honestly, the Spider-Man movies have been the greatest comic book films of all time,X-trilogy included.

Raimi has done a good job of being so very faithful to the comics, while at the same time developing all of these characters with so much depth and humanity.

The Peter/Harry relationship has been such a treat to watch onscreen,as tragic as it is,it makes for great storytelling.

SM3 will be quality stuff just as SM1 and SM2 were.
