How can Raimi prevent this film from becoming X-Men: The Last Stand?

X3 was not ratners fault. He filmed what he was given, which is the director he is. FOX screwed x3 (though it was not terrible by any means) just as they have screwed FF, Daredevil and Elektra. Every bad Marvel movie has happened through FOX. Thank god Spidey is at Sony.

Answer: He's Sam fuakin Raimi . . .

This is Sony not Fox. Studio has been great about the preparation time for these movies. X3 would have felt less rushed etc if Fox had allowed more time for the movie to be made. Not worried.

I think we can keep faith in Raimi that he will deliver Spider-Man 3 properly. Have u seen recent pics of the guy ? He looks like hell latley.

Raimi needs to devote as much time to the symbiote as he did with the power lose thing in part 2. And sure 1hr and 40min solving that problem was fine cause of the one villain.

But here you got Harry, Flint and his wife and I believe sick child, and Brock. With the addition of JJ and John who are pissed, MJ's relationship with Peter, Gwen as a possible new love interest, and Aunt May's new life in the city or whatever.

And Pete with the symbiote is in the middle of all this!

I know this movie seems like it has alot or too much, but if you really think about it its not much more than 2 had...

- Instead of Peter struggling with power loss, he struggles with more power (the symbiote)

- Harry: same amount of screentime, just fighting with Peter In a costume instead of no costume

- Flint and his wife and child: same as Octavius and his wife, maybe even less cause there was more time needed to really develop Oc, Sandmans more of a straigh up criminal

- JJJ and John: same amount of time, JJJ at the Bugle and John had scenes in 2 with MJ, now his scenes wont be with her.

- MJ, Peter, and Gwen's relations: In 2 Peter and MJ had ALOT of screentime...now Gwen will sub in to some of that time, and her growing relationship with Peter will actually include MJ because Peter/Gwens relationship with affect Peter/MJ's relationship...so not much more time needed there

-Aunt May: same amount of time as always, maybe a bit less cause Peter is more independent and will be making decisions on his own.

-BROCK: last but not least..he'll be around for all the Bugle scenes, fight scenes involving spiderman, and maybe a few scenes with Peter/Gwen/MJ maybe? so his story will be scattered throughout the entire movie..

All of this should fit nicely into one movie, maybe a bit longer than 2 was but even still its not necessary. I think were gona find that all this will provide a good balance and keep the movie fresh and exciting at all times

Easy, he's not Brett Ratner.

Hey. All you need to know is, Raimi said to the cast, "Come on guys, this isn't "X-Men," this is "Spider-MAN!" when he was directing a few nights ago. So he's pretty self-aware!

If the purpose of this thread title is to imply that X3 suffered from too many characters, and thus SM3 will go the same way, then the question is flawed.

Not only do we have a big-cast X3, but Batman Begins, I feel, is a more accurate comparison.

I don't think either film suffered from having too many characters. The flaws of X3 have been outlined above, and are not necessarily due to character overload.

BB did not suffer as a film per se, but rather the characterisations of Ra and Scarecrow suffered from not enough screen time. Strangely the way I remember BB, having only seen it twice, is that Falcone seems to be the most prominent villain. Could be just the mind playing tricks.

In another thread a while back somebody added up Doc Ock's entire time in SM2 as being something like 25mins. It will be interesting to see how SM3 fares in this regard.

One thing to compare SM3 with X3: running time. One theory about all the scenes cut from x3 was to cram in more screenings per theatre. I really hope SM3 doesn't suffer from similar pressure.

Raimi needs to do what FOX didnt. Give this Movie the time, enough prep time & go through the Source Material & of course make sure you know the previous Movies like you made them & all that stuff. X-Men The Last Stand was good & enjoyable & Raimi needs to simply be able to do his thing without any Studio interference. He got that with the First Two so I am sure it wont be a problem here. All Movies really need is the proper time & cae before Filming it & to not let Studio Politics get in the way of things & a decent budget. Which Spider-Man 3 has all of that so already its sounding better then X-Men The Last Stand Prep Time wise. That Movie could have been sooooooooooooooo much more. As I said it was enjoyable but it definitely could have been a hell of alot better

Sony has already gone lengths to make sure they are going to LAST STAND Spider-man 3.

For instance, they got the main cast and crew LOCKED UP before Spider-man 2 came out.

Just keep having faith in Raimi, I dont think he will mess this up

hope it IS like X3 I absolutely LOVED that movie. seen it three times now

I really hate when people say this, have faith in sam, for what? Ensuring that his movies make tonne loads of money? Because thats all his spidey movies ever do.........and that is NOT what movie making is all about. Its about the art and if its based on source material as expansive as the comics then accuracy of the characters in which we're being told about should not go amiss. Imo the spidey movies are over-budgeted pieces of mediocre fluff with enough boring dialogue to substitue anathetics on a global scale.
I do not trust Raimi and sadly, I'm not even as hyped as I should be for this movie, I'm expecting another mediocre mess for this movie....I really hope I'm wrong but Raimi has let me down twice, we'll see if he strikes a third.

Finally, something worth reading in this thread that's filled with simple statements and supported by nothing.

Raimi claiming to be the great spidey fan that he is doesn't respect the source material, especially after continuing with many pointless changes.

All Spider-Man films are just stylized action movies... people will forget about them in years to come... because their are other filmmakers that will focus on the art and story of film and especially the characters that fill these stories... not the action.

Marvel is so quick to rush out comicbook movies that I won't be surprised that Superman Returns will take over the box office because of the depth of character in the film.

in some ways i can see how that could happen, i haven't burnt spiderman out like i did Resivour Doggs, Bondocks Saints, Pirates of the Carribean, and Clerks, but i still like all of those movies even though i know ever single word in them

spiderman is different to me i think though, it has never felt like a movie i need to watch, and one of those, hmmm, i am boared of the stuff i normally watch..ooo, spiderman 2...then i would watch it enjoy, and then watch something else

so spidermans have yet to get boring for me, but i can see how if i ever watch it enough to the point where i know every single word in the movie, i can see how the boardum could set in

Why? Because it demonstrates the ridiculous irony that ppl actually thought SM3 was sooo much better than X3?
