The Dark Knight Humor in TDK

I thought the bit in the prologue where the last goon asks what happened to the others and gets killed a second later was funny.

As much as some people don't want their to be one liners in TDK, there will be. I can't stand the ones that try to sell things to the audience like "Hey, nice ride" or "I gotta get me one of those!".

I don't mind the ones like "Tell them that joke you know" or "You didn't get the memo?" The reason there will be is because it's still a comic film for most ages. As much as some delusional fanboys want their favorite characters treated in a super serious "adult drama" type manner(even if the comics weren't exactly like that) it won't happen fully. I'm sure this movie is going to be more serious like BB was in relation to a lot of other comic films but they still need to have some comic relief here and there.

While I do hope Jonathan Nolan can write better humour than Goyer I'm not crossing my fingers since, 1. It's based on a comic and 2. WB wants this to appeal to most if not all ages(knowing that adults will probably bring in kids younger than 13).

I'm basically saying, don't get your hopes up lol.

I don't mind one-liners too much...

but couldn't we have some good ones this time for a change?

What defines a good joke, though? Every single person on Earth has their own interpretation of what humor is...some will like the humor, others will find it stupid and goofy. I don't want any movie to ever be devoid of humor unless it's like some avant garde artsy fartsy thing. Every single comic book in existence has one-liners or smart ass comments from characters at one point.

Yes I too miss such favourites as "Lets kick some ice!", or "allow me to break the ice!" or "Freeze", or "Chill!" ... quality writing there

As long as Ledger doesnt make fart noises with his mouth while humping the air, i'm fine.

Oh yes. The basic demand is them to be good.

Ah, nothing like even worse samples of something to make that something look better. Like ugly people hanging out with uglier people to get a chance.

Reminds me of those people who defended Green Goblin's suit in Spiderman 1 by comparing it to Goblin's suit in Spiderman 3. Yes, I guess it looks nice in comparision.

I'd go further and say they have to be good and in the right places, like not right in the middle of life threatening tense moments such as getting Rachel to safety. They're the cheapest form of humor though, hopefully there isn't an over-reliance on them. I think the physical humor of Joker in the prologue is alot better than anything in Begins

But on the flipside, you play it TOO serious it can come off just as funny, which you don't want the audience to do. You don't want them turning into MST3K.

To me the humor in the serious places just says they're not very confident about how well the scene will play. Like "This might look ridiculous so we'll insert a cheap joke to avoid people calling us po-faced". Sometimes maybe you want to lighten a dark scene with humor but I don't think Begins had any good examples of that

what i'm hoping for the Joker in terms of humor is a combination of psychotic cynicism and some of what i like to call "morbid slapstick":hoboj: but i do like Alfred's and Fox's humor as well: very blunt sort of one-liners that reflect their characterizations. I thought Begins did a very good job of placing humor at the right spots..even Ra's's "Consider us even" quip was someone humorous in an ironic or cynical sort of way.

Nein. Unless you count the chuckle-worthy "Why do we fall, sir?" line in the elevator when the house burns down. I dont think it was made to be funny, just kind of a way to lighten up Bruce's perspective and give the audience an "awwwwe!" moment.

I just hope there are little physical gags like in hush, Joker's "I killed Jason Todd and all I got was this crummt t-shirt" shirt.

But I see there being quite a few. Like in the prologue, it was funny that he placed the smoke grenade in finchtner's mouth, or when the goon was using his shoes to unlock the safe. Even just seeing joker pop out of the bank and blend in with the school buses was pretty funny.

But even in the trailer, it was kinda funny that The joker just has a bazooka, and the way he fires it, was perfect.

There's a great one that someone heard during filming - the scene has Joker with a gun/knife on Batman after a bit of a chase when, all of a sudden, Gordon comes out of nowhere and has a gun on Joker - and then Mr. J says:

I'll be happy with the Morgan Freeman/Christian Bale & Micheal Cane/Christian Bale banter that was there in the first movie :D

I would find it extremely ironic that there is no funny in a movie with a character known as the Joker.

this is off topic, but i remember when they first announced Joker for BATMAN 2, that i thought... "damn, Jason Mewes would be a great Joker"

oh....yea cant say i agree there.

i still think bettany woulda been good. but i love heaths right now

heath is the bomb, and i was in the minority who didnt want bettany. he came off as too serious, plus i was holding out hope he would play constantine in the sequel!

YES. That was hilarious. You could practically see him thinking, "Ah, well, let's see here, I'll just line this up and put this here and ah OH CRAP HOLY JESUS WHOA"
