The Dark Knight Rises Improving Fight Scenes II

I loved the Batman vs Bane fight as well as the Batman and the police chase. The final chase felt lackluster compared to what we've gotten.

Vastly improved, Bane vs Batman round 1 is one of the most iconic things about this film!

Yeah Batman vs Bane Round 1 is so amazing, my jaw was hanging open at its brutality. But I also loved Round 2. Overall, I was extremely pleased with the fights this time around.

I think people are forgetting how great the second fight really is. The first fight is overshadowing its' impact. I'm not sure about you guys, but seeing Bane go crazy and punch holes thru the wall, try to fix his mask as he fights, Batman kicking Bane thru the door, etc. was just amazing.

Yes! The second fight is great too cause I love the acknowledgment that Bane is dependent on something, his fighting becomes more intense yet sloppy when Batman hits his face.

Yeah man, too true, I thought that was awesome :woot:

I didn't think it was bad, and Batman kicking him thru the door was great. Thats when you knew he was beat. Just the first fight, imo was the most intense thing in all 3 movies. It was so well done.

I think the fight scenes in this were damn good, a great improvement over the last two. A lot of that had to do with the camera angles Nolan used. Now if only he did that with TDK it wouldn't have looked as sloppy.

Hey, first time poster, long time lurker here.. I really loved the quick fight after Batman has Gordon light the flare and he jumps the guys about to kill Blake. The timing was sharp!

I didn't see much improvement in the choreography. There was just more of it. It actually made Batman and Bane's first fight seem kind of cheesy at first, but it picked up.

The 2nd fight was a bit underwhelming for me. I wanted more.

I still enjoyed it but there is proof of footage being cut. Watch this video at the 40 second mark. I don't recall Bane pushing off that guy into a kick. Or Batman flipping a couple of guys before the 40 second mark.

The second fight I agree was underwhelming in general. Just no where near as epic as the first amazing fight between them. I loved Batman's line once he beat him. I just don't like it any version where Batman has to beat Bane by this in breaking his pain relief or busting his venom. He can not ever beat him straight up.

i'm surprised to many people liked the hand to hand fight scenes. i am still disappointed in them and its probably one of the few gripes i had with the film. nolan needs to learn how make these fight scenes more dynamic and exciting and not simply a brawl to move the story forward.

The first fight was brutal, as in awesome yet very shocking. Everyone Ive talked to thats seen it thought the same as well.

The Bane Batman fights were total rocky and i mean that in a good way.

If you ever wanted to see rocky vs ivan drago sliced with batman you got your wishes.

I saw huge improvement in these fight scenes compared to TDK.

The second batman bane fight was way too short in my opinion.

In the first fight, i love when Batman randomly yells when he re-engages Bane on the lower level, you can totally see he's lost all composure at that point.

I think I can say I liked the fight scenes here over TDK - the two Bane fights, but yeah same here kvz5.

Hell yeah.

That happens right before we get the shot of Bane from behind that was used in the first teaser trailer.

Loved all of the that fight sequence, the actual fight was very 'Rocky 4' Drago vs Apollo haha. Which I loved. Also Bane's dialogue took me way back to seeing the Luke vs Vader fight in Empire Strikes back as a kid.

:word:

the choreography was terrible...just so lackluster.

probably my biggest gripe of the film.

i'm baffled as to how nolan can have the vision to create such magnificent set pieces and not be able to film or execute hand to hand combat. it's just poor.

I think it's a combination of the limitations you have with the suit and NOlan opting not to have a too aggresive fighting style.
He wants a grounded look for his movies , so anything too stylised a la Matrix simply doesn't fit it. On the other hand having Batman fighting like the guys in The Raid wou'd've probably earned the movie a R rating.
Also , at least to me , the suit does seem to limit body movement.

I do agree with what Hunter said about the fight scene where he saves John Blake

Seriously the mercs where just waiting to have their ass kicked. THey're standing there with guns for crying out loud .

I thought Nolan greatly improved with his cinematography of the fights. He didn't linger as much as he did in TDK which sucked all the momentum out. Unless you have super megastar professionals like Jackie Chan or Jet Li in there you can't just leave the camera on one shot for so long. Those guys can bring it like not many people can (see The Legend of Drunken Master or even The Forbidden Kingdom). Nolan seems to have learned from his mistakes in both Begins and TDK and sort of melded the two together. The fight scenes were clear but still fast paced. Granted I'm still a big fan of the Batman Begins fights in comparison to it's sequels (especially after seeing them all back to back on the big screen in one go) but TDKR had some pretty amazing fights. I think I might actually prefer the final fight just because it was cool to see Bane go crazy like that and Batman actually look like a martial artist and not some kind of elbow enthusiast.

Actually, on that note, kudos to the fight team for remembering Batman can use his legs in combat again. That was pretty neat. No crazy jumpkicks required, either. And speaking of Rocky and fight movies, did this have kind of a martial arts movie structure to anybody else? Any kung fu movie fans here? Hero gets beat up and hurt badly/shamed, hero trains with wise old man and gets better, hero comes back and takes revenge. It's very Karate Kid/Kickboxer/True Legend/every martial arts flick ever. I got a kick out of that.
