I was wondering... Since The Dark Knight was the first Batman movie without the word "Batman" in it, do you think it's a must now that Batman 3 must follow the same trend? Is the title "Batman 3" basically out of the realm of possibility? I mean, why? There has never been a film called Batman 3.....

I think we will get another "no Batman in the title" title.

Its not a ''must'', but I like it without Batman in the title.

Batman can be in title, of course. In fact, the one I've like most so far is "The Batman". Simple and yet powerful.

But I can tell you for sure that they won't call it "Batman 3". It's the most unimaginative title ever, and just not Nolan's style. He likes treating these films as individual films, not mere sequels.

Batman Begins & The Dark Knight were great titles, They can call it The Dark Knight Returns or just "Batman"

i like the title: The Batman
You know how when you meet or see something important it always is the ex. The Mona Lisa

And we should add the next batman movie to that list

"The Batman" is really the only good title for a third that i've heard so far

Funny you would say that. :)
But yeah, it's my favourite title too.

So...THE BATMAN...or SHADOW OF THE BAT?

Hmm...

I really hate "The Dark Knight Returns". 1st of all, that's a long title that sounds very cheap. Secondly, sticking the previous films title along with "Returns" behind it is even MORE unimaginable than "Batman 3". Forget all the Frank Miller comics, a Batman film cannot be titled "The Dark Knight Returns". You know how tacky that sounds (and looks)! Batman Returns may be unimaginable, but at least it actually looks like a film title!

BATMAN BEGINS
THE DARK KNIGHT
THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS

Think about it without thinking about Frank Miller... no... just no...

What's next? "The Dark Knight Returns Again With Robin and the Batmobile Lost a Wheel"? Yes, I am in the Christmas spirit, if anyone's wondering. ;)

Sidenote: Think about George Lucas coming out with his sequel... "The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Returns". Or "The Phantom Menace Returns". With some films it works... "Batman Returns", "The Mummy Returns", etc. But for Nolan's films, he's set the standard for original titles, not some cheap add-on title.

I guess it would depend on what the third film is about
but here are a few ideas:
Knightfall
Shadow of the Bat
Legend of the Batman
Batman: Public Enemy
Gothem Knight
Year Two (or Three)

Just some tie ins to the comics.

The only title I´ve read that I really like is "Gotham"

Its not a must, just a new option for the title.

I've always thought a good title would be Legend of the Knight. It kind of has a double meaning using either Knight or Night.

Ive been thinking of a couple more:

-The Knight's Vengeance
-Vengeance of the Knight

Aside from that I like the titles:

-Dark Victory, Gotham, and The Batman.

The name doesnt have to have Batman in the title but I wouldnt mind either way as long the name in not cheesy ala "The Dark Knight Returns"

I think whatever the title it would have to fit with the movie

Batman Begins was the beginning of Batman (and another way of saying Year One)

Dark Knight, Dent says the Night is Darkest before the dawn. Meaning that things are going to get worse before they get better. And the Joker has made things worse.

Whatever the third film is about, and if its the last one then maybe in the end there should be some hope (with Bruce possibly going deeper into the darkness and coming out into hope and prosperity to let the audience know things will be at least somewhat OK)
Then the title should somewhat convey that.

I'm sorry but I hate Shadow of the Bat. I know 89 was Batman, but I still think just plain Batman works. The only reason I don't say The Batman is b/c I disliked how Harvey kept saying it at the press conference. One day The Batman will answer for the laws he's broken etc.

I think that's more opinion than anything, it's no more tacky than Batman Begins  That being said, I just don't want them to use the title because I want a direct adaptation hopefully one day in the future, but other than that there's no real reason why it couldn't work.

I feel most of the really good titles are already taken by something else:

The Dark Knight Returns
Batman Beyond
Dark Victory
Knightfall

So, like I've been championing, I think Gotham City is fine. If not, I say screw it and use one of the above, but no, I don't think Batman out of the title is some prerequisite now, quite the contrary, I think they should toss it back in. I mean, it's not like the movie itself will be more "cool" if Batman isn't in the title

I'm sorry but I hate Shadow of the Bat.

Why? Like THE DARK KNIGHT, it hints at what is happening in Gotham, and is metaphorically significant, as well.

I think THE BATMAN is very unoriginal. Also, people will always confused THE BATMAN (2011) with Batman (1989). The titles are too similar.

The Dark Knight was the perfect title because of the contrasting between Harvey as the "white knight" and Bruce as the "dark knight".

So I believe the title will be tied intimately into the storyline somehow.

I think The Batman is the best way to go.
Of course I'll be proven wrong in three years when the Nolans pull out something golden that no one on here has even thought of.

1) Batman Begins

2) The Dark Knight

3) Gotham City

I think the best possibly title won't be a variation of Batman:______ fill in the blank. Like Batman: War on Crime. Good title for that book but not so for a film.

- Gotham Knights
- Gotham City
- Dark Victory
- Gotham
- The Batman
- Gotham Wars

I'd be fine with any of these.
