True. Every year, there's always ONE movie that gets a nomination and everyone is like, WTF?

And then of course, there's always one very deserving movie that gets snubbed.

I found nothing particularly special about Cloud Atlas. I could maybe see it getting nominated for cinematography. Anything else? meh.

Skyfall getting a nod for anything other than fx work and music would be like TDKR getting one for anything but the same. The voters just don't view these flicks as anything more than fluff.

Yes, that's what I was saying; it should be nominated for cinematography. I didn't see anything else about it that called for a nom, except maybe visual effects (even though some of those were shaky).

does anyone know where I can find the music from the part where Bond is going to that casino to cash in the chip, the music sounds like a violin cover of Adele's Skyfall song mixed with traditional 007 theme

try YouTube... there's BOUND to be SOMETHING there in the way of the Skyfall theme that you're looking for...

This is definintely a top 5 Bond film. Really Connery and Craig are the only true Bonds and you only have to listen to the former Bond actors saying so. Both Dalton and Moore have said that Craig's films are the true heirs of Dr. No and FRWL, and I completely agree.

Moore only made two great Bond films in TSWLM and FYEO, and I put those way below Craig's films or Connerey's. Brosnan only made one good Bond film in GE. I feel bad for Brosnan, because I know he wanted to be more serious with the roll, but the film makers gave him stupid lines that would even make Roger Moore cringe.

I'm so glad they did away with all the sillyness in the Craig films and gave us a real spy novel with a character that is a real assasin. The opening scene in CR where Bond plugs the guy in the middle of telling him his second kill would be much easier, that is freaking James Bond. It's right out of the scene in Dr. No where Bond plugs the professor who was trying to kill him in his sleep and he says "that's a smith and wesson, and you've had your six" and then shoots him twice.

Whatever you think of OHMSS, the fact is that Lazenby was a horrible actor, infact he wasn't an actor. The worst actor to ever play Bond, so while the plot of the movie was excellent, unfortunately they had a dull glamor boy playing the lead who pissed off the other established actors in the film, and the director. Even Diana Rigg has said that Lazenby was the architect of his own demise. When you have other actors opening bashing the job you did, you didn't do a good job.

The most under appreciated Bond was Dalton. Both of Dalton's films were IMO better than Brosnan's. They were more serious toned, and they got away from the silly clownish Roger Moore movies that were more of a parody of Bond than a Bond film. Dalton had an unfair backlash, and his movies were way ahead of their time as far as the darker tone. Other than Connery and Craig, Dalton's performance was the closest to what Flemming wrote of the character.

My top 10:

1.) skyfall
2.) From Russia With Love
3.) Casino Royale
4.) Thunderball
5.) Goldfinger
6.) Dr. No
7.) Licence to Kill
8.) The living Daylights
9.) The Spy Who Loved Me
10) Goldeneye

Quantum just misses the list, because it had too many structural problems. Craig's performance was spot on as always.

10 worst Bond films:

1) Moonraker
2.) Die Another Day
3.) Man With the Golden Gun
4.) View to a Kill
5.) Live and Let Die
6.) The World is Not Enough
7.) Octapussy
8.) Diamonds are Forever
9.) Never Say Never Again
10.) Tomorrow Never Dies

The best track and possibly one of the coolest moments in the film to me was when they were approaching the island on the yacht. the music was so badass, and the island lair is so classic bond I loved it.

There are some arguably corny things from the old bond films but really there is underlying cool aspect to many of them. A villain with his own island is cool.

Not to mention the classic style of dress Craig and Severine had while Deakins did his thing. Damn that was a good scene.

Skyfall will very likely be nominated for best cinematography, TDKR might as well (the academy loves Wally Pfister).

The one thing I laugh at was the whole secrecy surrounding Dench's real name as M. Why? Surely when she faced the world in her job, everyone would have known her name?

Lazenby was alright, he worked in the emotional scenes with Diana Rigg and pyhisicality of the role. In fact my favorite moment in the franchise is that scene from OHMSS where Bond has been chased doen the mountain by Blofeld's men and sits down and watches the feet of the passing people. The defeated look on Lazenby's face absolutely sells it and I think in time with the role he could have been great.

For those of you who saw M:I-Ghost protocol and enjoyed it how would you compare it to skyfall?

A friend of mine I saw Skyfall with said he actually enjoyed GP better. While i think skyfall was better and the acting much better. GP with all the gadgets did have a lot of that old school bond feel and it did have some great action set pieces. I don't know if skyfall had anything that could compare to the dubai tower climb?

Why they did anything [with the exception of christopher lee] they did in Man with the Golden Gun is a mystery. Lol

Maude Adams was good as Scaramanga's tortured mistress. She should have been the leading lady instead of the ridiculous Mary Goodnight!

Don't diss the flying car, man :D

Okay, I'll give them this. The Car stunt really was awesome - and they did it in one take....and then ruined it with that stupid freaking slide whistle! Someone recut the scene on youtube, edited out the whistle, and mixed in a revved engine, and it's much better.

Fair enough. :cwink:

It's how I felt about Pike's character in D.A.D. Until she got screwed over. :cmad:

It felt like an Elektra King retread. Bond sleeps with some woman he trusts then she turns out to be a villain.

I'm not sure he meant the car stunt, which wasn't technically a flying car but more of a corkscrew jump. There was literally a flying car in TMWTGG which belonged to Scaramanga. It had wings attached to it and took off and flew in the air and escaped.

The corkscrew stunt was awesome though and I agree it was ruined by that slide whistle.

I didn't like Nick Nack. He was painful to watch. Sheriff Pepper was another eyesore. I think it was capitalising on the Smokey & the Bandit craze at the time, which is why he was probably in LALD too, where he was featuring in a more similar way to that Burt Reynolds franchise.

For those of you who saw M:I-Ghost protocol and enjoyed it how would you compare it to skyfall?

SKYFALL is a much better film in almost every respect. GHOST PROTOCOL features more gadgets and big action, but the characters are pretty thin and the story isn't all that interesting.

If you're looking for spectacle like the Dubai tower climb, SKYFALL won't impress you as much.

Saw Skyfall again today. I like it even better then the first time around, but I think I am more firm that CR is the best around.

1. Casino Royale
2. Skyfall
3. From Russia with Love
4. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
5. Thunderball
6. Goldfinger
7. Quantum of Solace
8. Dr. No
