James Bond In Skyfall - - - - Part 13

what did you think of the title sequence?

When it first started I was really unsure about it, I think I like it. I wasn't sure about the song/music either but by the end of it I was really liking it...I think. Probably should rewatch it, but I enjoyed the theme of kinda a "wounded" Bond physically...and spirtually/mentally?

Just like how Silva is literally stabbed in the back again by the knife - to which Kincade said "sometimes the old ways are the best" while holding it up in a earlier scene - which proved to be true in this instance.

As soon as Kincade said that and presented the knife. I knew James would kill Silva with that knife in some way, didn't expect it to be thrown into his back knowing Craig's Bond was expected some nasty up-close showdown. I liked the way it happened.

Regarding less globe-trotting, the whole last half of the movie takes place in like the UK.

I also think there's something in there about the DB5 - a signature staple of classic Bond, getting blown up by modern helicopters. This constant battle of old and new throughout the movie. You can take away items from Bond but at the end of the day they are only extensions of the man himself. Just like how Silva is literally stabbed in the back again by the knife - to which Kincade said "sometimes the old ways are the best" while holding it up in a earlier scene - which proved to be true in this instance.

Another minor thing was in China when he was shaving and him and Eve mentioned it being the old fashioned way. Lots of great little things that were built up through out the movie like that.

Skyfall was pretty subversive to the tropes and iconography of the Bond franchise

I didn't miss the gadgets. The gadget deus ex machina in the movie was always meh for me.

People might say Bond ripped off Bourne again using the resources he had at hand as weapons in the Skyfall lodge but I like the more practical resoucefulness.

If he has gadgets again I hop they are not too over the top Sci fi stuff
He needs to fight in all the pubs.
Sounds like Russell Crowe fightin round the world :woot:

I imagine Bond probably drinks in a fankcy Gastro Pub or Wine bar or something rather than an old school British Pub.

Craig's Bond I can see drinking in an Old School Pub. He was pretty much in one when he was "dead".

If there is one key difference between Craig's Bond, the previous movie Bonds, and novel Bond, it's that Craig doesn't have the high sophistication and elegance the other Bonds have. He's the type of guy in which you wouldn't be surprised to see in a local pub drinking Carling or Guiness.

I think it is more that he can exist comfortably in either situation. Craig's Bond is definitely not a narcissist, which most of the others seemed to be, to varying extents. He doesn't seem to have a conception of himself as someone with specific qualities- be they elegance or physicality- and he is not emotionally impervious to the outside world.

Bond visits Turkey, Bahamas, China, Macau, England, and Scotland. Compare that to something like YOLT where he is in Japan for all but the very beginning of the film. That's what I mean.

Not to mention it's one of the few Bond movies where he doesn't even step foot in Britain, or even another continent for that matter.

I feel like Bond enjoys the finer things like cars, women, fancy suits, alcohol, ect as its a distraction to all the murdering, violence and brutality of his day job and the fact he could die at anytime.

He's stuck up, but I like it, which brings me to one of my favorite lines from Quantum Of Solace when he refuses to rest at that ghetto motel.

Fields: You're going nowhere.

Bond: So, shoot me. I'd rather stay at a morgue!

Meh, to me it's not Globe trotting to go from England to Scotland.

That was just being smart. That seedy hotel probably had STD's that would make a two dollar back alley ****e flinch.

Craig Bond more has the attitude that a well tailored suit lasts in combat, like you can roll out of a car and it will remain intact. Craig said this himself in the lead up to CR. He's got class with a rougher edge. Just like ordering the Bollinger and caviar after being with Solange. A cultured choice but then driving off and leaving her to it. Terrence Young's view of Bond was that of a thug in a suit. I think that fits Craig Bond very well. The suit almost being this disguise to blend into social scenarios, where he then unleashes his abilities when needed, ala the opera in QoS.

I think that is a very interesting analysis. Although I prefer the notion that Craig Bond simply has little self regard, I like the idea of all the pressed suits and dry Martinis being a front.

Good post

A lot of talk the blu-ray could be hitting in Feb instead of March. Yes please!

It's rumored for February 18th. If that's true, then I'll be broke that day because that's the same day Game of Thrones Season 2 hits Blu-ray.
