Its been known for over a month. February 12 in the US. February 18 in the UK.

If you are looking for a press release or something from the studio word is that is coming January 25. The studio was waiting for the film to cross $300 million in the US before making a formal announcement.

Since the press release isn't until the 25th, couldn't the 2/12 release date still be treated as a rumor?

At this point, no. It was originally set for March 13, 2012 . Then it was changed to February 18, 2012 for the UK. The only discrepancy is that some sites are reporting February 18, 2012 for the US. That is on a Monday which is not uncommon in the UK, but highly uncommon in the US. Blu-ray.com reported February 12, 2012 for the US which is a Tuesday and far more likely. So at this point major video sites, Bond sites, and even Amazon is reporting these 2 dates and there has been no denial from the distributors. This isn't uncommon. With many blu-ray releases the release date will be known before a formal statement from the distibutor do to contacts within the industry that report back to sites dedicated to blu-ray. Of course, feel free to take with salt, but at this point you can mark your calendar for next month on either the 12th or 18th depending where you live.
