James Bond In Skyfall - Part 3

Update #4 in my James Marathond

I don't know if I watched it with very low expectations or people are just exaggerated by nature. I thought Diamonds are Forever wasn't that bad. It was definetely hit and miss, but for the most part it kept me entertained. The Las Vegas chase was actually fun to watch, and this time Bond actually did stuff, the character kept himself in numerous situations, and not just walking around in hotels and bedrooms. I also liked seeing Q trying some of his gadgets in the casino.

The often funny tone wasn't good, for sure. Some of the scenes just cut in a joke (like when Bond gets out of the buried tube), or have an anticlimatic music in the background (the moon buggy chase in the desert). Or those 2 idiots.
Anyway, the overall tone just wasn't clear, and that may kept me away from truly enjoying the film. But I didn't think it was that bad.

Tomorrow I start the Roger Moore era with Live and Let Die and The Man with the Golden Gun.

MWTGG has it's moments, but when it's bad, it's horrid. It could and should have been great. Screwing up a Bond movie with Christopher Lee as the villain is just a terrible missed opportunity.

Would I be particularly misguided in saying that The World is Not Enough is Brosnan's second best Bond?

Honestly, that movie was like a breath away from being perfect. And that breath's name was Denise Richards.

No, you wouldn't be mistaken, but that movie had more problems than Desnise Richards, like having a main villain that was a wuss, and whipped.

Honestly, that movie was like a breath away from being perfect. And that breath's name was Denise Richards.

You're sooo right, but I think the problem wasn't Richards, but rather editing/pacing. At times that movie was boring, then at other times it was too muddled in ridiculous action. It never seemed to have found its balance - it just stuck to two opposite ends of the spectrum, boringness and BS action.

Die Another Day has the opposite effect on me. That movie just takes everything and ramps it up to almost mentally ******ed levels. Not a single aspect of that film was a good idea. Not a single idea.

Tomorrow Never Dies is my favorite Brosnan movie, followed by Goldeneye, World is Not Enough, and That We Shall Not Name.

I dunno, there's not much difference in quality between his films outside of Goldeneye so it's hard to tell what's his second best.

Totally agree. That's the one Bond movie I've never watched again, it's that bad. The last 45 minutes with literally non-stop action is just grating. By that time though, I had already long before given up on any hope of the movie redeeming itself and had written it off.

I don't understand the hate for TMWTGG. It's not the best and some bits are cheesy ok but the locations are cool and Christopher Lee is great villain.

Golden Gun has one decent moment in the movie, when the car does the big corkscrew over the river. Other than that, Golden Gun is a joke of a movie. Not even Christopher Lee can save that turkey.

She's great to look at but damn, some of her deliveries were dreadful.

But other than her, I like the film. It is a bit uneven in areas, but it's a watchable Bond film.

I haven't even seen TND in its entirety.

Most unwatchable Bond films IMO:

1. Die Another Day
2. Quantum of Solace
3. The Man With The Golden Gun
4. Diamonds Are Forever (but this would be the most watchable of the 4 for me).

Well QOS is probably the best acted out of those 4, and the actors do give good performances. However, the editing is horrendous, everything seems extremely bland (as if they've gone overboard to be "gritty") and there's nothing really iconic or memorable about it at all. There's no style or glamour such as was found in CR, and nothing that really sets it apart as a Bond film. I'm not asking for cliches, but I would like some hallmarks of the series - even the Bond theme or certain slightly bizarre situations he found himself in in the past.

But "feeling no pain" doesn't equate to extra strength. The lack of pain wouldn't have made Renard physically stronger. He seemed a rather diminuitive villain and wussy Brosnan was still having trouble with him. It makes me think that Brosnan wouldn't have stood a chance against the likes of Oddjob or Jaws. I think Brosnan would've even hurt his hand slapping a woman's behind.

That's what did it for me. They changed camera angles every half second and it ruined the action.
