^ BBC has a good quote about that which basically says that "back in the day" it made sense to trust an old hardened scientist with technologic inventions, but today it is the younger generation that deals with - and are the masters of - that same field.

That's a great way of putting it.

I don't know about that. If I need a create a fountain pen that shoots lasers, I'd go for an old guy. If I want to create a computer simulation of what the pen looks like and then post it as a viral video, that's what the young guy is for.

I have to disagree, just because you only think of computer-nerds.

This is what todays science-students are up to:

I dont see an old guy coming up with even the IDEA to try and develop something like that. This is pure 1980s-born imagination at work.

I don't mind with a younger Q, it's just that I never really like Bond having gadgets that are in the sci-fi territory but gadgets that are seems more plausible in reality would be fine.

Yes, I prefer the old-school spy gadgets like poisoned pens, concealed knives, exploding shaving foam and micro film in cigarette lighters.

I don't think we'll get the over the top gadgets, but something simple that compliments Bond's mission.

Yes, this new incarnation is more down to earth, unless they decide to give a 180° turn with the gadgets thing, I think they will stay small in scale.

I would love a return of the knife-projectile-in-the-briefcase. That sort of stuff I think is in the realm of Realistic-Bond. The stuff in the Dalton movies I think are OK as well; the sniper rifle and the explosive-toothpaste to be precise.

Ben Whishaw is a awesome actor so I'm glad to see him as Q. Whishaw was great in The Hour.

I hope they don't go too crazy with the gadgets though

It's a little irritating that after all this movies there's nothing that can stop him, everything works for him. It's boring. That's one of the things that Casino Royale got right.

That isn't exclusive to Casino Royale.

I dont see the problem for the realistic weapons like dart pens, and expolives and other stuff like that. They probably wont go all crazy out with lazer guns and invisible cars and all that.

I'm happy Q's back and I like the idea of a younger Q. It's a good new spin on him.

no surprise they chose to go a different route with Q's casting... i was expecting a woman or something lol

hes a great actor looved him in perfume

Makes more sense that Q would be younger anyway.

Re: Q

NICE! If they keep making Bond films, Whishaw is set for life on having acting work now.

To any of those who haven't seen Layer Cake, go watch it NOW and you'll see why Craig got the 007 role! Funny enough, Whishaw and Craig had good chemistry in that film (with Craig not taking Whishaw seriously) so I can see them picking up where they left off now that they're reuniting on-screen.

Now, hopefully this mean my wish for Sienna Miller being an officlal Bond girl comes true one day! :awesome:

Re: Die Another Day

Like Moonraker, it's a tale of two movies. It's actually pretty good until halfway through (when Bond goes to Iceland) then you're in for a world of facepalming. I can handle Halle Barry, Madonna, Grave's electricity suit, and the invisable car, but what ruined the movie for was the twist of Col. Moon being Gustav Graves. It was downright stupid and totally unnecessary. Graves should've been his own villain.

When Ben Whishaw was first rumoured to be cast in Skyfall i said i would not be surprised if he was playing either Q or a member of Q Branch...:woot:

In the previous films, I never got the impression that Q actually made the gadgets. He just ran the operation. The same way that Steve Jobs never physically constructed any of his products.

Yes, I know. I noticed that after I saw For Your Eyes Only.

And yet, you didn't on "Goldfinger" where Bond didn't even know how to stop the bomb. Not to mention, he got two women killed, and got captured by the villain who nearly killed him.

Mendes- Three Character's fan might recognize played by three actors

Ben Whishaw

Albert Finney

Ralph Fiennes

Ben Whishaw- Q

That's one down and two to go!

Maybe I should have said "most of the times". Is that ok?

Seems more like "IQ" than "Q "

but for some reason it doesn't really bother me. Its not the old series. Its a new day and a new take on Bond in a lot of ways. Craigs certainly different from what we've seen before compared to most Bonds. Going for a younger Q makes sense in a lot of ways. Look at some of the guys that have pushed world changing technology over the years. A lot of them were still college aged and younger people seem to stay on the cutting edge there.

Hopefully they don't make the new Q TOO young. If he's in his 30's I'm fine with it. We got a woman M afterall and the world didn't end. It really depends on the execution in the end and we got a great writer and director on Skyfall so I'm looking forward to it.

Connery's Bond isn't nearly as invincible as the character becomes later, especially early on. From Russia with Love is another example. He completely falls for Kronsteen's plan. It is only Grant that screws it up by getting greedy.
