James Bond In Skyfall - Part 8

I'm with you man. Dalton will always be my favorite Bond and I always wished he got to have a better movie.

Me too. Maybe he would have done more with the role. Maybe he would have been more charming and witty. It does take time to get set in the role. Roger Moore wasn't that good a Bond until the Spy Who Loved Me. I felt he was okay in Live and Let Die and awful in The Man With The Golden Gun (though to be honest, besides Christopher Lee, everyone was awful).

While I wish that Dalton was in more movies, and while I think he would have done well in Golden Eye, it just seems to me that that film, and that moment in time, was a really good starting point for a new Bond, the whole "post cold war" thing you know?

Yep. As much as I like Dalton, Brosnan was a perfect timing thing.

Looks like they are totally dropping, forgetting about all the business with Quantum from the last movie. Guess they were taken down off screen with the intel Bond gathered from Quantum of Solace. Sort of disappointing but oh well. I guess they figured it was time to move on as people were dissatisfied with how much Quantum of Solace was connected to Casino Royale.

That was just another reason to complain about the film. If it was as good as CR, the connection wouldn't have been a problem for anyone.

Never cared for Brosnan in the role. Always came off as very cheesy. But in his defense, he did have some of the worst movies (The World is Not Enough, Die Another Day).

*raises hand*

I like those two actually. At least I can enjoy watching them.

Really? I thought they were just terrible. And not so bad that it's unintentionally awesome like Moonraker, just not good.

I did kind of like Goldeneye though.

I really hope that Bordem's character lives through this movie. They need villains and not just an organization to continue.
I'm not sure if that will happen but it would be nice. If he does have to bite the dust, I think something like Doctor No's death in the novel for example would be fun to see.

I think after the pre title sequence the movie just goes down hill. The action sequences are just meh. They're by the numbers.

Bond shooting down unknown enemies in the caviar factory felt like a video game. In one scene two baddies looked like they came out of a shooting game from an arcade.

One popped his up and another popped his head down.

FYI it's the scene where Brosnan says "get out!" to Christmas and Zukovsky in the cavier factory.

Goldeneye is still one of my favorite Bond films and I think Brosnan is perfect in it. I actually thought he was fine in Tomorrow Never Dies and The World is Not Enough... the movies just weren't up to par. Well, the latter WOULD have been, had Denise Richards not been in it. He was past his prime in Die Another Day and looked it, but that pales in comparison to the MULTITUDE of other problems of that horrible, horrible movie.

Yeah, Richards is really my only major issue with TWINE.

Me too, I love Brosnan's Bond and enjoy all his films. Goldneye is definitely my favorite of his and favorite Bond film overall.

Man, I know I'm late to the party about this, but that last trailer they released was awesome! To me it feels like a classic Bond movie, and I think it's going to be one. It looks great, and I can't wait to see this. I'm so excited for this movie.

I have the same thoughts! I'm really excited to finally see Q return! :)

Ya most reports have said qw likely won't see quatum in the film. But I still hope they throw a ref/nod to them. And spectre I thought it was still clear eon can't use spectre name/group. Due to rights are in other hands.

Goldeneye gets points for the sheer amount of stuff in it. Also felt very different from the past films. Had that "Cold War over" thing going for it. Not to mention it spawned the greatest game adaptation of all time.

Everything that followed (until the reboot) ranged from mediocre to god-awful.

Tomorrow Never Dies was so bad, it got kind of amusing in certain parts.

The World Is Not Enough was a fairly forgettable flick. Didn't hate it, just forgot it.

I don't think anyone here wants to defend Die Another Day.

What are you talking about? Go and watch November's press release. Quantum being a non-entity for SF is clearly explained, also, you forget that in the previous films, SPECTRE wasn't in every Bond film. They had a presence in DN, FRWL, were left out in GF, returned for TB, YOLT etc.

IIRC, SPECTRE was present in Dr. No and From Russia with Love, but never brought up in Goldfinger. They returned for Thunderball and continued to appear in the next three movies. My point is, even if Quantum might not be used in Skyfall, that doesn't mean they won't turn up again in future films.

From what I understand, Quantum is intentionally being totally ignored in this film due to the film being the 50th anniversary so they want it to be a standalone movie just for that. We'll see more of Quantum hopefully in the next movie.

The first half is actually pretty good. Once Bond gets to Iceland, it goes downhill from there.

I actually agree. I won't say that it is great or anything, but outside of Madonna, Berry, and the ridiculous diamond face changing stuff, there is actually an pretty okay film going on with Die Another Day before they get to Iceland. Once in Iceland, Rosamund Pike is literally the only good thing. Everything else ranges from terrible to some of the worst crap I have ever seen.

I think it was flawed throughout. The opening sequence in North Korea should have been exciting, but it somehow managed to be extremely boring. That sense of overblown tedium pervaded throughout. It reminds me of Peter Jackson's "King Kong".
