Jared Leto IS The Joker - Part 1

I think the pinkish pinstripe was what he wore as Jack Napier under the black trench coat. It's a good look!

What Heath wore was grungy and modern and it worked with his character.

But this Joker should be older and with that, so should be his dress sense.
And as others suggested, he should at times wear different outfits to go with the occasion that he's planned for.

The classy pinstripe suit, black coat and fedora would look great on Jared.
Then there should be times when we get his long tailcoat suit - for when he feels like being the showman. But everything he wears and how he carries himself should always say
"I'm the Clown Prince"

No doubt many Hypsters make it down to Henley Regatta each year. It strikes me that a lot of the lurid blazers seen there provide a pretty good basis for Joker costumes:

I don't know about fedora though... does anyone wear them anymore, except for Indiana Jones wannabe archeologists, that is?

For example, I do own one, but never get to wear it. Well, if you don't count wearing it for the kicks when playing blues in some club. But for real, nope. Never.

Besides, Nicholson's Joker wore the hat and I guess it'll remind people too much of his version if they give Leto's Joker one too.

While giving him purple fedora in 21st century could fit and enhance his nonconformist persona quite nicely, I find it to be more of a cheap gimmick and could make his character seem a bit silly.


Now, all of a sudden, there'll be an army of people who wear fedoras on regular basis to stone me. Mark my words. t:

Don't underestimate the value of the actor's performance. Ledger didn't go through some massive visual transformation but he still became the character. Leto doesn't have a persona on screen the way Jack does, or RDJ, or even Depp. So it won't be as hard to just see the character because Jared's performances never come off as an extension of his real self on screen.

Oh I never underestimate an actor's performance. Heath Ledger vanished into the role with his amazing acting. But the make up did help. And he wasn't hidden under mounds of make up and huge prosthetics, but he was still unrecognizable as Heath visually. Just goes to show that sometimes less is more.

I'm hoping for the same with Leto.

I hope he occasionally wears a wacky costume to coincide with what's going on, like he goes to meet someone for a serious meeting dressed in like a graphic tee and cargo pants or whatever.

Indiana Jones and Johnny Depp called...they want to kill you

Honestly, with Joker and his unique style of dressing, I reckon it will work and people wouldn't question it, because they'll just know that's how he is and how he likes to dress.

The fedora worked for Jack because the time period was ambiguous. Old timey mixed with goth.

Jack's wardrobe was amazing. He wore a slightly different suit every time he appeared. I hope they take that approach with Leto.

Snyder and co. have remade Lex to fit current times in BvS. The Lex of the modern comics was created in the 80's and his image mirrored that.

Eisenberg is apparently mirroring modern and youthful businessmen, like Mark Zuckerberg.
Joker was created in the 40's and his style mirrored classy (but flamboyant) gangster.

Should Joker be reinvented in the same way?
Keep him consistent of the past, with the snazzy and clean cut suits and image, but add modern twists like Ledger's Joker, without the grunginess?

The difference between Lex and Joker is that Joker's wardrobe is an essential part of the character. Even in TDK they had to include a purple coat, vest and tie. That's part of who he is. Lex wears generic suits.

In the end, Joker is ****ing crazy. Does it really matter if his clothes don't align with 21st century fashion? This guy wants to look classy and wear colorful suits.
