Or perhaps some people simply don't like it? It's grown on me, but that doesn't mean it has to do the same for everyone else. Some are being pretty over the top with the hate though.

Almost all the criticism has been over the top though. A few people have said 'Not a fan but I'll see where it goes',, but mostly it's 'Oh my God they've ruined the character he's a juggalo emo Manson knock off!!'.

Fans are just ridiculously spoiled, it's actually quite sad how entitled fans feel.

He's shown he has contacts in the industry.

Two conflicting responses about him. I want to believe he's right, but I don't think so. It doesn't make any sense why covering Joker in tattoos like that is a "celebration" of his 75th anniversary. None of them even vaguely homage any of his famous tales over the years. Nor do I believe WB would release a phony look as their first official pic.

WB seems to be aware of the fans penchant for nerd rage, given the forewarnings they gave to Affleck on that score. It would be hilarious to me if they released something purely to troll those fans.

That's a bit strong. The Joker is widely loved as a genre villain, and those who love him love him the way that he is. Nobody is a "bastard" for feeling a bit disappointed with such a jarring re-tooling of his classic image.

All the same, I think this image is as jarring as it is/would be, and I don't rule out the possibility that it is a bit deceptive.

Reg, look at these forums. Is this healthy human behaviour? The way adults go on here on the Hype, it's like a nursery school. And before giving this a chance to pan out they just decide this is the worst thing ever, people have little perspective here.

I actually like that his teeth are replacements for the ones he'd had knocked out.

But there are so many problems with this design.

He doesnt look crazy. He looks like someone whos trying to look crazy.

The designs shows a "hipness" or acceptence of current cultural trends which goes against everything Joker is.

The tattoos I wouldnt mind if theyre were amateurish and looked like they were something Joker did himself. These look like a guy whos a Joker fan and spent way too much money on fanboy tattoos.

The Damaged and J face tattoos ... no words... terrible, terrible...

In some ways Joker should resemble Hannibal Lecter.. someone who has a calm expterior and can even be charming - but never doubt... he is insane. and can explode at any moment. This just screaming Look at me, Im over the top crazy. Its tries too hard.

Such a fail design.

Hopefully this is true. Tattoos are jarring and really scream "trying too hard". They don't even look like prison tats, they seem very professionally done.

As for the rest, I actually got myself to like the metal teeth rather quickly and the skin tone is perfect. It is exactly what I meant when talking about an albino look and posting that "Mad Max: Fury Road" picture. Still not big fan of the hair color, but it is growing on me.

I think Green Lantern taught them that playing it safe isn't exactly the safest way to play it.

Even if it is real, it could be a leaked set pic of one of the several "looks" that were tried out before settling on the final one.

Uh, there's nothing about that pic that says it isn't the same design as the one that was tweeted. The J tattoo is on the other side, and if there was a forehead tatto, it'd be completely washed out by the bright highlight on his forehead. He could have the same tatts and we wouldn't know.

You can't really see what's going on with the teeth either.

I don't, I think WB was just playing the misinformation game hard at the time, nobody could get anything solid on the film.
